Companies place informative videos on YouTube to train and entertain others. Windows Vista has a free program called Windows Movie Maker that can help you create videos and add titles to them. Titles, often seen at the beginning of a movie, are important cinematic elements set the stage for the action to come. Make your titles stand out by learning to add graphics to them.

Step 1

Launch Windows Movie Maker and press “Ctrl-I” to open the Import File window. This window displays your hard drive’s folders and files. Double-click the video file you’d like to manage. The program adds the video the Content pane.

Step 2

Drag the video to the Storyboard/Timeline pane and click “Import” again to view the Import File Window. Double-click the image you’d like to add to a title to place it in the Content pane.

Step 3

Drag the image to the location on the timeline where you want it to appear in the movie. Because it’s a title, you probably want to drag it before your video so that the title appears before the video on the timeline. Click the title to select it and then click “Tools.” Click “Titles and Credits” and then click “Title on the Selected Clip.”

Step 4

Type your title’s text in the “Enter Text for Title” text box and click “Done, Add Title to Movie.” Windows Movie Maker places the title in a box that sits in the TimeLine panel’s Title Overlay track. This box displays the text you typed for the title.

Step 5

Press “Ctrl-Q” and click the Preview pane’s “Preview” button to view your movie. You’ll see your title on top of the image you selected.
