How to add pictures in blogspot

Featured images better known as post thumbnails are a popular feature that every blogger adores to have in his Blogger Template. Today most of the quality Blogger templates support custom post thumbnails functionality. Some popular Blogger development websites like Templateism and Themeforest have some standards of keeping this feature must. However, some new developers as well as users don’t have any idea how to setup a feature image or post thumbnail in Blogger. Therefore, in this article, we will be providing a method to successfully display a feature image thumbnail in blogger.

You may have notice that all most the majority of the blogger templates takes the first image from a post and displays it as a feature post thumbnail on homepage and archive pages. Sometimes users want to have an ability to customize those Featured Images or Post Thumbnails in Blogger. Mostly themes have a built-in summery feature that does the most the job pretty much accurately but it doesn’t let you set up a feature image or post thumbnail of your choice. Even if you are able to setup a feature image it does not gives same efficient results that WordPress blog does.

Beginners Guide to Feature Post thumbnail in Blogger:

Before getting started with the tutorial, I would recommend you to setup automatic post summery script for blogger so that you can easily setup a feature image through a minor tweak that we will be discussing below.

To add a feature image in blogger posts, simply go to Blogger ›› New Posts ›› and click “Upload Image” button which will open up a image uploading wizard. You can use that to upload any image from your computer or you can also add an existing image from your Picasa image library.

After uploading the image select “Edit HTML” tab from the top left corner and copy the complete URL of the image which would somewhat look like as it can be seen below:

People want an ability to display feature image or post thumbnail only on achieve and homepage that appears along with the post except (summery). They don’t want to have the feature image to be shown on the same post when viewer opted to view it. Now to make it possible, paste the following piece of coding at the very top of the “Blogger post Editor” through “Edit HTML” tab. Remember: Do not forget to replace the image-here with the URL of your image that you would like to show as feature image or post thumbnail.

You might know that world is progressing so far. Pictures and videos are being shared and processed the most instead of creepy texts. This is because pictures and videos can give you the real touch of your past which any other medium can’t.

As a blogger its important to showcase your personality, your thinking, your behavior beyond the words that you usually type.

And if you are a web designer, Instagram gives you wealthy opportunities to share your designs, new templates etc.

When Its Hard To Communicate In Words, Sometimes Photos Make It Easier!

If you’re reading this article, you’ve probably been trying to get pics into your blogger posts in a side-by-side fashion, but couldn’t quite figure out how to manage it. That’s because the option isn’t available in the control panel for some reason. If you want to place two photos side by side in blogger, you’ll have to go into the HTML of the post itself (NOT the HTML of your template!), but don’t worry, it’s really very easy to do; you just need to host your image on a free image hosting site like Photobucket. You will, however, have to do insert the new code every time — in other words, every time you want to create a post in blogger which has side by side pics. So let’s get to the part about how you do it.

Step 1

Go to your Blogger dashboard

Step 2

Click on the Posting tab

(Clicking on the posting tab should automatically take you the Create Post section.)

Step 3

When you first open the Create Post section, it will automatically be in Compose mode. To view the HTML mode, you will want to click on the HTML tab, which is right beside the Compose tab. Both of these tabs are on the far right, just above the tool section.

Step 4

Don’t forget to replace the “insert your jpg link here” here with your own link! See below for an example.

Step 5

This is the same code, but with img links included as an example.

Step 6

Once you’ve inserted your HTML code, you can check the images by clicking on the Compose tab. You can also use the Preview link, which is just below it.

Step 7

It’s best to insert pics first and then write your blog post, because it can be very tricky to navigate the blog post HTML once you’ve started to write it. If you’d like to see what I mean, take a look at the HTML of a post you’ve already written. Better yet, take a look at once that contains an image — if you’re not familiar with HTML, it can be quite confusing, and accidental errors can make the whole post unreadable, so do yourself a favor and start by inserting pics and then composing the post later. If you have to go the opposite way round, it’s certainly possible, just be very patient and take your time until you get the hang of it.

How to add pictures in blogspot

Today I want to share with you a fun little trick for automatically resizing your Blogger photos to fill the full width of your post area. Blogger offers several tools for resizing post images easily. I’ll get to my little trick in a second, but first I want to explain how to use the Blogger tools for uploading and resizing your photos for those that don’t already know.

To use the Blogger resizing options, simply create a new post, add a photo, and then click on your uploaded photo to open the sizing and positioning options.

How to add pictures in blogspot

You can set the photo size to small, medium, large, x-large, or to its original size. You can also set the justification to left, center, or right. I recommend centering your photos and using the x-large setting (if you don’t use the trick below) so your photos can be seen in all their glory. The only draw back to using this option is that the x-large size sizes images to 640px, which means if you have a post area that is wider than 640px, the photo will still look a little small. That is where my fancy little trick comes into play, so let’s get to it!

STEP 1: RESIZE YOUR PHOTO

Resizing your blog photos is an important step regardless of whether or not you plan to use this photo sizing trick. This tutorial will still work on photos uploaded in their original size but because uploading original sized photos slows your site WAY DOWN, it is not recommended. The larger the image size, the slower it will load on your site…so trust me, just don’t do it!

Most blogs have a post area width somewhere between 600px-750px, so sizing your photos to 800px wide should work well on most blogs. You’ll want your image to be sized a little larger than your post width with this tutorial because it’s easier to bring an image down in size than it is to bring a small image up in size. Enlarging a small image will cause it to become pixelated and the quality will be low. So to keep things looking good, I recommend sizing your images to around 800px wide with this tutorial.

STEP 2: ADD A LITTLE CSS

Now that your image is sized correctly you’ll need to add a little coding to achieve the automatic re-sizing. Don’t worry, you don’t need any coding experience for this.

1) First open up your Blogger dashboard and go to “Theme” and then “Customize.”

How to add pictures in blogspot

2) Click “Advanced” and then scroll down and click on “Add CSS” and copy/paste the following code into the white box:

.post-body img <
max-width: 100%;
max-height: auto;
display: block;
margin: auto;
>

It should look like this:

How to add pictures in blogspot

Note: the above code will only change the images you have set to “Original Size.” If you want ALL of your images to be sized to the full post width regardless of the Blogger re-sizing options you have them set to, add this CSS instead:

.post-body img <
width:100%;
height:100%;
display: block;
>

Now click “Apply to Blog” to save your changes.

STEP 3: ADD A PHOTO TO A POST

Now just add a photo to a post like described in the beginning of this tutorial and make sure the photo is set to “Original Size” and your photo will now nicely fill the full width of your post area once you hit “Publish.” This trick will also apply to all previously posted photos as long as the photos are set to “Original Size.” If not, then you’ll want to use the second code option above.

In WordPress virtually every theme uses a popular function named “Post Thumbnails” or “Featured Image” which is a way to assign a specific image in your WordPress media library to a post or page. While some people call them post thumbnails others call them featured images but it’s referring to the same thing. If you are new to WordPress and are having trouble getting images displayed on your blog/site have a look at our guide below so you can learn how to properly define these photos.

Step 1: Edit the post or page you want to add an image to

The first step, of course, is to log into WordPress and click to edit the post or page you want to assign an image to.

How to add pictures in blogspot

Step 2: Click on “Set Featured Image”

Next you want to click on the “Set Featured Image” link on the left side of your post editor. If you do not see this option check under the “Screen Options” tab in the top right corner. If you still do not see the option then most likely the theme you are using doesn’t actually support the Featured Image/Post Thumbnail functionality.

How to add pictures in blogspot

Step 3: Choose an Image from Your Media Library

After clicking the Set featured image link a popup will appear which will display all the images currently uploaded to your website via WordPress. Here you can click on the image you want to use or you can simply drag and drop any image from your computer into the window and it will be uploaded to your site so you can then select it.

How to add pictures in blogspot

Step 4: Click on “Set featured image” blue button

Once you select your image simply click on the blue “Set featured image” button in the popup window and it will be assigned to the post or page. Just be sure to click update or save as draft to make sure the image is correctly assigned as the featured image otherwise if exit the site or refresh it may not have been assigned correctly.

Next Steps…Resizing Your Featured Images

Now that you know how to properly set your featured images the next step is to learn how image resizing is handled in WordPress so you can display them at the right dimensions on your live site. For this, it’s important to note that every theme is a bit different and while most themes use the native WordPress resizing function which only crops images based on theme defined sizes on upload (each time you upload an image it is resized to every custom defined image size in your theme)

Other themes, much like our premium “Total Theme“, have their own built-in resizing functions that are more optimized and allow greater user control. If you are a developer you may want to checkout the core add_image_size function to learn how to define custom sizes in your theme and if you are a user then you should check out the documentation for your theme or contact the theme developer and ask how you can manage your featured image sizes.

But generally speaking most themes will work with the WordPress image resizing function (not really because it’s better but because it’s easier) so be sure to see if your theme has any custom options to select your custom sizes either in their theme panel or in the Customizer under Appearance > Customize. If you locate settings and you can tweak them accordinly and if not, most likely the theme has preset sizes, but in either case if your theme is using the native WordPress sizing function simply go to Plugins > Add New and search for and install a popular and high rated “Regenerate Thumbnails” plugin than visit it’s settings and run the script so that images on your site can pass through the correct functions and get resized either according to your custom settings or the theme’s default settings.

A post divider is simply a line or image, which divides your blog posts. It helps the reader distinguish one post from another when scrolling down through your blog. You can a a minimal line or something that matches your theme. I’ve added some free dividers to the shop if you don’t want to make your own.
