There are many articles on the internet about how to get a haircut that suits you . Well that’s great for people with hair, but I know from personal experience that there are a lot of balding men out there and there are almost no articles out there on how to look good bald . and pull off the sexy and bald look.
I decided to write this because I know how it feels to start losing your hair. Earlier this year I started shaving my head completely bald and I’m pulling more girls bald than I ever did with hair. This guide will enumerate the three must do’s to capitalize on your lack of hair situation and turn it into a strength.
But first we have to talk about a decision you need to make.
“Beauty is how you feel inside, and it reflects in your eyes. It is not something physical.”
Even though I got Joey McIntyre from The New Kids on the Block to sign my scoliosis back brace in the sixth grade, I still felt ugly wearing it.
I didn’t realize the irony back then, but in retrospect it seems a little funny that I grew crooked considering I convinced myself I was wilting in my sister’s shadow. (I also had braces and headgear, but that’s another story.)
I was a kid who wanted to be beautiful, but more desperately wanted to feel loved. My self-esteem increased through the years, but I never quite shook the sneaking suspicion I’d never be beautiful enough. Or maybe lovable enough.
It would be easy to blame it all on society and the Kate Moss era of modeling, but I think it’s more than that. I just never learned to notice and appreciate all the beautiful things about myself. The stuff that had nothing to do with my waistline, skin tone, or eye lashes and everything to do with who I am.
I never learned to give myself the credit for all the good I do in the world. I was too busy cataloging my weaknesses, mistakes, and flaws to recognize it.
It seems like such a cliché to say that pretty is as pretty does, but the truth is, physical beauty is subjective. And even if someone perfectly matches your ideal of physical perfection, their looks will eventually fade. What endure are the qualities, passions, and habits we nurture.
That’s what makes us beautiful—and believe me when I say there is something beautiful in everyone. If you’ve done any of the following lately, you are absolutely beautiful:
1. Smile. As the quote goes, “I’ve never seen a smiling face that was not beautiful.”
2. Be there for someone who needs you even if there’s nothing in it for you—give without expectations.
3. Make a sacrifice for someone you love.
4. Admit a mistake, even if it’s hard to say you’re wrong, and work to make amends.
5. Share your struggles, putting your ego aside, to make someone else feel less alone.
6. Create something that helps people. A song, a blog, a support group, a non-profit—anything that inspires.
7. Help a child feel good about him or herself.
8. Tell someone what you appreciate about them, even if you feel vulnerable.
9. Forgive someone without needing to hear the words, “I’m sorry.”
10. Create positive energy around you by thinking positive thoughts and acting with positive intentions.
11. Sit with reality without judging anyone or anything.
12. Accept someone for who they are instead of trying to change them to who you want them to be.
14. Notice something simple but beautiful in the world around you.
15. Acknowledge the beauty in others instead of feeling threatened or competing with other people.
16. Be the change you want to see in the world, as per Gandhi’s suggestion.
17. Tap into your personal power and do something that makes a difference in the world.
18. Find strength in a challenging moment. It’s not easy to do, and you deserve credit for it.
19. Talk kindly about the world around you instead of gossiping or complaining.
20. Forget yourself for a minute and do nothing but listen to someone who needs it.
21. Measure a person by their best moments, not their worst.
22. Give yourself the same courtesy—focus on the good you’ve done, not the mistakes you’ve made.
23. Take the high road when someone hurts you instead if being cruel or catty.
24. Make someone laugh. A smile can literally melt stress and pain away. How beautiful of you to do that for someone else!
25. Make someone cry—tears of joy that is. People want to feel moved, inspired, motivated. Never underestimate the power of touching someone’s heart.
26. Keep an open mind instead of sticking with a judgment or assumption.
27. Love what you’re tempted to fear.
28. Be the voice of optimism when the people around you need it badly.
29. Show humility when your accomplishments would make it easy to stand above people.
30. Handle rejection or failure with grace. It’s far more easily said than done—and it sounds so cheesy and cliche—but accepting loss gracefully makes you a true winner.
31. Show unbridled enthusiasm for something that excites you. All children are beautiful, and I think their unadulterated joy has a lot to do with it.
32. Hear what someone means, not just what they say. Anyone can nitpick. Not everyone actively works to be understanding.
33. Imagine a world where people know peace, and do one small thing to create it.
34. Honor the values that matter to you. Showing integrity is the first step to feeling good about yourself.
35. Accept and love yourself, just as you are in this moment.
And now a disclaimer: some days you may not do anything written above—in fact, you might do the exact opposite. On those days you are still beautiful.
There are times when, like Alexander, I’m having a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. Times when it seems like I might get swept into the tornado of chaos around me. Times when the voice in my head is unkind, and I interpret everything that happens through a negative filter. When I think the worst of people and complain about it; when I expect the worst of my day and lament it.
This admission might seem like the biggest possible acknowledgment of hypocrisy, but I have nothing to give if not my honesty. And the reality is I am imperfect. We all are. We all have moments of weakness—but they’ll only define us if they far surpass moments of kindness, compassion, love, and strength.
Being beautiful doesn’t mean adhering to some picture-perfect fantasy, or living every moment that way. It means realizing this moment is a new opportunity to be who you want to be, and making the effort to seize it.
How will you be beautiful today?

In this meditation for anger and big emotions, you will teach your child how to remain peaceful and calm even as he experiences these feelings. Children benefit greatly from relaxation tools that help them with the experience of strong feelings.
We can assist our little ones by guiding them with our kind words and giving them the necessary skills to deal with these potent emotions.
These peaceful guided relaxation scripts are written by Mellisa Dormoy of ShambalaKids. Her guided relaxation audios help children and teens relieve stress and anxiety, improve self-esteem, feel fantastic in mind, body and spirit and develop a positive mental attitude at school and at home.
Guided Meditation for Anger and Big Emotions
Close your eyes and take in a nice deep breath. Allow your tummy to fill up like a balloon, and then exhale slowly.
Do this five times to really relax your whole body completely.
You’ll notice how your body begins to feel deeply relaxed and sinks down further and further. Your legs begin to feel heavy too. Your arms now begin to feel heavy and very relaxed.
You enjoy every moment as your body continues to relax with each word I say.
Imagine you’re a beautiful dragonfly fluttering about the sky. You see the lovely green valley below you with lots of colorful flowers, just waiting for you to enjoy.
You feel the wind blow against your delicate, lacey wings. As the wind touches you, it gently blows away any worries, any stress you feel. Enjoy how wonderful it feels to be free. Your mind is so clear and calm. You are completely peaceful. You look so beautiful as you allow your true happiness to shine through.
Gliding on the peaceful wind reminds you that you can feel this way anytime you want. We all experience moments where we feel big emotions, and that’s ok.
But you also know that you can deal with those big emotions by breathing deeply, or slowly counting to 5 while you allow yourself to calm down a little before you talk things out with someone you trust. All of these things help us keep calm and feeling good even when we feel very strongly about something.
We all experience many emotions every day. There is nothing bad about any emotion. We just need to realize that we are in control of the emotion and the emotion is not in control of us.
As you continue to fly along as a dazzling, beautiful dragonfly, notice now how the sun touches your body and warms you. The big, puffy clouds floating in the sky remind you how relaxed and calm you can be whenever you want, just by thinking about it.
The earth is a patchwork of color and you enjoy each moment here, gliding along feeling so joyful and peaceful. You spread your wings far and stretch. It feels so good. You are ready for an extraordinary day.
Take in a deep breath now and exhale slowly. When you are ready, give your body a big stretch.
With a clear, calm mind, say these words to yourself, “I am peaceful and I am calm, ready for a wonderful adventure in my day.”

Have you noticed tired acronyms seeping into your speech, annoyingly usurping what was once a rightful place for poignant, playful language? TBH, we’re tired of net-speak taking over the way we talk and tweet. It’s time we take a hint from the many writers who are using Twitter for good rather than lol-riddled evil (we’re looking at you, Teju Cole) and fill every 140-character limited sentiment to the brim with bizarre, lovely, uncommon words.
Sure, language is always changing, and sure, certain words become obsolete for good reason. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t celebrate English’s weird and wonderful quirks, regardless of their relevance.
To ensure that big, uncommon words don’t go the way of the wooly mammoth, we suggest that you scrounge up a few of your favorites (or, if you’re feeling uninspired, borrow a few from the below list), and:
- Incorporate them into your vocabulary.
- Introduce them into digital culture; use them in your twitter bio, change your middle name on Facebook from ‘Benghazi’ to your favorite big word.
- Get a face tattoo, ensuring the word can’t truly die until you do.
- Start texting them to your friends. If they judge you, pretend like it was an autocorrect fail.
- Choose your favorite word from the list below and use it in personal introductions. “Hi, I’m Carina and my favorite word is slubberdegullion, what’s yours?”
- Share this post with your friends and family. Tell them you’re concerned about their diminishing vocabulary, make it clear that you’re not there to judge them, you’re there to help them.
- Better yet, shout out to us on twitter at #BigWordLove with your favorite beautiful, uncommon word.
- Or, do what Patrick Horvath did below and illustrate some of your favorite words to show the world what a loony but lovable logomaniac you truly are.

The eyes have a way of capturing our attention; they are usually the first thing we notice in people, and some even say that they are the windows of the soul. But what is it about defined eyes that is so attractive? Some people are blessed with thick, dark lashes and wide eyes, but for the rest of us, makeup can be used to get a similar look. But what, exactly, is the reason the standard is set to having Elizabeth Taylor’s lush lashes and big eyes?
Defined Eyes Are All About Youth
The limbal ring, or the dark outer ring of the iris (colored part of the eye) is darkest when women are most fertile.
It all starts on a biological level; defined eyes are attractive to us because they are a sign of fertility and youth.
Each of us is born with a limbal ring around each eye. The limbal ring is the part of the eye that separates the iris (colored part) from the sclera (white part). It is comprised of a thick black ring and is nature’s form of eyeliner. As we age, our limbal rings often get smaller and lighter, losing some of their eye defining effects. As humans, we find defined eyes attractive because it is a sign of health and youth, which are both reproductively in our favor. The limbal ring is its thickest from infancy to your early twenties, which is when women are most fertile (Evolutionary Psychology). When you line your eyes, it draws more attention to your limbal ring.
Your other natural eyeliner, eyelashes, are also a sign of youth. Much like the rest of your hair, your eyelashes tend to be thickest and healthiest when you’re younger. This is another sign of fertility and health that makes you more attractive.
Big Eyes and Symmetry Mean More Attractive
Large eyes and facial symmetry are both markers of attractiveness.
Defining eyes with makeup has the ability to make our eyes appear larger, which has also been associated with attractiveness in women. In a study where males rated females on attractiveness, things such as large eyes, prominent cheekbones, and thick lips were found to be the most attractive facial features across the board
Bigger eyes have also been associated with desirable personality traits such as honesty; there seems to be a phenomenon of wide-eyed-innocence which is closely related to naivety and youth. Because youth is considered an attractive trait in women, it would make sense that we would associate the traits of youth with someone who looks youthful. Since large eyes, as well as defined eyes, are considered signs of youth, it makes sense that if a woman had one, she’d likely have the other (Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin). And since both of these are associated with youth, vitality, and innocence, it makes sense that she would be considered attractive.
Facial symmetry has also been noted as an attractive trait in women. Studies using identical twins have shown that the twin with more symmetrical facial features is consistently rated as the more attractive one (Journal of Personality and Social Psychology). Defining eyes has the ability to make a face seem more symmetrical.
There’s Historical Precedent for Defined Eyes
More than just a fashion statement, Cleopatra’s lined eyes may have helped to keep her healthy.
Defined eyes also have been associated with resistance to disease and protection from environmental factors. The Ancient Egyptians were well aware of this; Cleopatra and King Tut were just a few of the ones who used dark eye makeup.
This ancient makeup was made using lead chlorides. Research has shown that the compounds present in the eye makeup boosted the production of nitric oxide in the skin of those who wore it, helping to boost the strength of the immune system. Because of this, those who wore the black eye make up were often disease-free, and led longer and healthier lives than those who went bare faced (Review of Optometry).
Don’t Have Large, Defined Eyes? Fake Them!
If you don’t have the biggest eyes or the fullest lashes, you can always use makeup to fake it!
If you’re looking to fake these indicators of health and fertility, you have a few options. First, a good eyeliner is a must. In a test we did on durability, we found that Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes Mat ($17.23, amazon.com) lasted the longest and was the most durable. If you want tips on how to line your eyes for your eye shape, check out our post on how to best line your eye.
Next, get your best lashes. For temporary lashes get a good volume-boosting mascara, like LashControl Volumizing 2X Black Mascara ($20, amazon.com).В You might even consider false eyelashes.В You can go for a full set with something like Ardell Fashion Lashes ($10.49 for four sets, amazon.com) or individual lashes with something like Ardell Duralash Naturals ($8.97 for three packs, amazon.com).
Want something more permanent? An eyelash growth serum like Latisse or Jan Marini Eyelash Conditioner ($160, amazon.com) will help your eyelashes grow longer, thicker, and darker.
Defined eyes are attractive because they generally are a sign of health and fertility. Whether it’s the limbal ring around your eye, a thick set of eyelashes, or big eyes, a defined eye tells someone looking at you that you’re young and fertile. And throughout history, a defined eye could even help to improve health, which definitely makes someone more attractive.
With all that has been seen in the eyes, it’s no wonder that we pay so much attention to them.

The TV industry is potentially on the cusp of returning to form, with parts of the country attempting to return to normal amidst the pandemic. In particular, CBS’ The Bold and the Beautiful was perhaps the first U.S. scripted series to officially go back into production this week – it’s already being delayed again, but more on that later – and the long-running soap opera is making big changes to incorporate new social distancing guidelines. And yes, those changes include utilizing blow-up dolls for future sex scenes.
Not everyone has a job where kissing colleagues and simulated sex are regular enough parts of the work week, but veteran Bold and the Beautiful cast members have gotten used to that sort of things over the years. Even so, the show’s new social distancing rules will make the show’s romantic scenes and storylines all the more unique, with new approaches to how characters will be shown kissing each other. And as we mentioned earlier, the show will have blow-up dolls available for moments when all involved want to do more than just kiss. Here’s how executive producer and head writer Bradley Bell put it in an interview with Forbes:
We have some life-like blow up dolls that have been sitting around here for the past 15 years, that we’ve used for various other stories — (like) when people were presumed dead. We’re dusting off the dolls and putting new wigs and make-up on them and they’ll be featured in love scenes.
Does it make things even more disturbing when considering that the lifelike dolls being used in the sex scenes had previously been used as corpses? Well, it certainly doesn’t make it any more wholesome! It’s all quite amusing, of course, but it will indeed be interesting to see if Bradley Bell and the show’s crew can pull off romantic entanglements like that without things looking extremely awkward.
Interestingly enough, the idea is for the blow-up dolls to factor more heavily into close-ups during the steamy sequences, while live stand-ins would be used for filming wide shots. But not just any stand-ins, of course. When applicable, Bradley Bell says they’re aiming to use actors’ real-life spouses and significant others for those moments, though they will all need to test negative for COVID-19 first, naturally.
As far as kissing scenes go, the actors won’t be locking lips with any lifelike dolls, thankfully for them, but they also won’t be able to kiss their co-stars under the new guidelines. (Fun fact: the writers attempted to craft stories without any libido-friendly kissing, but that wasn’t working for anyone.) Instead, the actors will now be faking their way through kisses while directly in front of the camera, without any one else involved. According to Bradley Bell, the characters will look like they’re wrapped up in passionate moments, but in reality, they’ll just be making kissy-faces into thin air.
Though The Bold and the Beautiful did technically start filming again on Wednesday, the production was shut down again after that in order to take a few extra precautionary steps to ensure everyone’s safety stays the main priority. The main issue is reportedly making sure the show is able to perform the large number of tests that will be required for all the cast and crew, as everyone will be tested often while filming is happening. The delay is only temporary, and filming is set to begin again on Tuesday, June 23.
Though everything has been reruns for a while now, The Bold and the Beautiful airs every weekday at 12:30 p.m. ET on CBS. Fingers crossed fans will get new episodes before the summer is over, but until we know more, be sure to keep track of all the confirmed shows coming soon with our 2020 Summer TV premiere schedule.

Want to see some furniture magic? Watch how the masterminds at Bent Woods Studio find an old dresser at the Habitat ReStore and turn it into a beautiful modern masterpiece. Follow along and you can make your own furniture magic too! If you have a piece that you are interested in updating back to life contact Bent Woods Studio at [email protected]
The dresser was solid wood, with beautiful burled veneer. The client for this piece decided to do some restoration on the dresser to bring out the beautiful wood-grain and to paint the the sides and drawer trim to update the color.
These are the supplies for this project:
- Ralph Lauren Paint
- Good paint brushes
- Other tools as needed
- Many rags and paper towels
- Citri-Strip and an old paint brush to apply
- Water-based Polycrylic finish in Satin
- Sand Paper from 120 grit to 400 grit
- Time and fondness for all things wooden and old
DIY Tip: Follow the directions on all products you use when stripping, staining and painting. Some of these contain chemicals that can be harmful if exposed to or inhaled. Be sure to protect your hands with lightweight latex gloves.
Pre-Step 1) Staring at furniture
You want to be a furniture magician. An ability to stare at furniture for a long time is required. Why? Because, the furniture will begin to talk to you about the best way to finish it. It will pay off for you to listen. Furniture has history, architecture and an artistic sensibility. You have to stare at furniture to figure out what to do. Enough said.
Step 1) Clean thoroughly & strip the areas of the piece that you will refinish instead of paint.
Clean all furniture you will be stripping or painting to take off any dirt or residue. Warm water mixed with a de-greaser like DAWN is great for furniture that is in not-so-pristine shape.
DIY Tip: Furniture must be dry before painting or stripping. In Colorado, this is not a problem and most furniture will dry after cleaning in a matter of hours.
- Strip the old finish — Apply a generous amount of stripper on the area being stripped.
- Remove the old finish – Wait at least 15 – 20 minutes but don’t allow the stripper to dry out. Using a metal or plastic scraping took, work the stripper and finish off the furniture. DIY Tip: You will want lots of paper towels and a waste basket handy for this. It’s MESSY!
- Mineral Spirits: Your furniture refinishing friend – Once the finish is completely removed and the wood is exposed, using a clean rag, wipe down with mineral spirits. This will clean the wood area and also give you an idea of what the piece will look like when completed.
Step 2) Getting a professional stained & painted finish
Staining the furniture – I wanted this dresser to have a deep color but lighter than the original finish. You can use traditional stain that penetrates the wood or a gel-stain for an easier staining process. This dresser was stained with gel-stain in red cedar.
After applying stain, lightly sand with high-grit sandpaper and apply a second coat of stain. Letting the stain sit on the furniture deepens the color. Buffing the gel-stain once it is partially dry can even out the stain and help it ‘set’ into the wood.
Painting the furniture – My preference is for very high quality paint and paint brushes. The tools you use will greatly contribute to the finished product. Both the dresser and the side-table were painted in a light blue-gray paint from Ralph Lauren. I usually apply 2 light coats of paint, sanding very gently between layers and a 3 rd finish top-coat of paint.
DIY Tip: Work in really good lighting so you can truly see what you’re doing when painting. It will lessen mistakes and give you a better finished product.
Step 3) Protect
Apply Polycrylic to protect – The last step is to protect the furniture with a polycrylic application. This helps the pieces sustain their finish through regular usage. I use a water-based poly and apply it with cheesecloth that is folded to hide the raw edges. 3 coats will do nicely. Be sure to wait the recommended wait time between layers of poly and sand very, very lightly with 400 grit sand-paper between applications.
Can’t get enough? See other ReStore DIY furniture projects here.
Step 4) Were you successful?
The answer to this question is always yes. It takes some guts to take on a project like this. Bent Woods Studio has refinished and painted over 100 pieces of furniture and I’m still learning. Also, I have gone back and redone pieces that did not quite work. This is expected and part of every furniture artist’s learning curve.
Congratulations on your DIY prowess!
