Since I’m new to Snapchat I’m always learning new things with the App. Recently, I was messaging my friend from TikTok and noticed my Profile Image was a cowboy. I know I must have picked this image, most likely by accident, but certainly didn’t remember doing so. This got me thinking of how to change my profile image to something different. Plus, it would be nice to show all my readers how to do this, too. So, after many hours of research, it was time to write my article so you could change your profile image to something that reflects who you are (maybe a cowboy ? ).
How To Change Snapchat Profile Image
I will be showing you how to do this on my Samsung Galaxy A20 Android phone:
Step 1: Start up your Android device and look for the Snapchat App. Tap it .
Step 2: Once you are in your Snapchat account, look to the top left for your Profile image. You will need to tap it.
Step 3: This will take you to the Profile screen. Here you need to look to the top right for the gear icon. Tap it.
Step 4: Now that we are on the Settings screen, we will want to look for Bitmoji . This is what Snapchat calls the profile image. Tap it.
Step 5: Here you will see your profile image and below that are some choices.
- Change Outfit
- Edit My Bitmoji
- Choose a selfie
You can change your profile image’s outfit which is sort of fun. It is a little like playing dolls according to my little girl. Tap on the Outfit you want. Once you do this tap the Save option at the top right.
I also found out that you can get to all the editing options including your outfit by going to Edit My Bitmoji . Tap it.
Step 6. Here you can change your hair, eyes, hats, outfits, facial hair (everybody needs a beard), color and more. These options are at the bottom of the screen which you would have seen when selecting your new outfit. All you need to do is swipe at the bottom of the screen, left or right, to find more options. Tap on the option you want to work on. After you are happy with all the changes, tap the Save button at the top right. Done!
Step 7: Now that you have created an image that reflects your personality, let us look at one more option. Choose the Selfie option from Step 5 which is the Bitmoji main screen– tap it. On the Choose a Selfie screen you can choose how your Bitmoji will appear on Snapchat. Tap the one you like and then tap the Done button at the bottom of the screen.
You now have everything set the way you want it on Snapchat . Time to get out there and start messaging all your friends to show off the new look.
You probably know that almost everything we upload to the Internet nowadays stays there, even if we delete it. For that reason, we should be careful about what we post on social media, although more and more people like to notify their followers about everything they do during the day.
Being an influencer or a celebrity usually requires a public profile, open to new followers who can post their reactions and comments. However, if you don’t have these kinds of aspirations, you may want your profile to be private and available only to your friends and family.
If you’re a Snapchat user, and you’d like to turn your profile to private, here’s how to do it.
How to Turn Your Profile to Private
Once you’ve created a profile on Snapchat and started personalizing it by adding your profile photo or a Bitmoji, don’t forget to adjust your privacy settings as well.
If you wish to turn your profile to private, so your content is only visible to people you’re connected with, follow these simple steps:
- Open Snapchat on your smartphone.
- Tap on your photo in the upper left corner to open your Profile.
- Tap on the Settings icon in the upper right corner of your screen.
- Scroll down to Additional Services section.
- You’ll see many privacy-related options, like View My Story.
- Tap on View My Story and select Friends Only to make sure no one else will be able to see what you post. Also, you can opt for Custom and block certain friends from seeing your content.
If you don’t want to appear in the Quick Add section, tap on See Me in Quick Add and uncheck the box to turn off the feature.
If you want to hide your location from your friends, tap on See My Location and uncheck the box next to Ghost Mode. When you create the account on Snapchat, this option will already be checked, but you can change it anytime. Snapchat will allow you to choose who you want to share your location with, so you can select a certain group of followers.
Control Who Can Contact You
The best way to prevent unpleasant situations is to control who can contact you in the first place. Here’s how to allow only your friends to contact you:
- Launch Snapchat and tap on your photo to open your Profile page.
- Open Settings by tapping on the icon in the upper right corner.
- Scroll down to find the Additional Services.
- The second tab is named Contact me – tap to open.
- Select My Friends instead of Everyone. Note that My Friends is selected by default when you create a profile on Snapchat.
If you failed to change this setting on time, and you’ve been added by someone you don’t like, you can ignore their request.
- Tap on your photo to open your Profile page.
- Tap on Add Friends.
- Open the Added Me section to see your pending requests.
- Tap on the x next to the user’s name.
- Tap on Ignore to delete their request.
You will now stop receiving requests from this person.
How to Remove or Block a Friend Friends
If you’ve already added someone on Snapchat but you changed your mind and now you want to delete them from your friends list, here’s how to do it:
- Swipe right to open the screen with your friends’ stories.
- Tap on a friend’s name and hold for a second.
- Tap on More to see available options.
- Tap on Remove Friend to delete them from your Snapchat.
You can also do this by opening your chat with the person you want to remove and tapping their profile picture at the top of the screen. Next, tap the three-dot icon also at the top and select Remove Friend.
If you want to block a friend instead of just removing them, choose Block instead of Remove in the last step of the described routines.
How to Unblock a Friend
If you change your mind and you want to unblock a friend, do the following:
- Tap on your photo in the upper left corner of the home screen.
- Tap on the Settings icon.
- Scroll down to find the Blocked section.
- Tap the x next to the friend you want to unblock.
Being concerned about your privacy and safety on Snapchat is not something you should just ignore. Take all the necessary steps so you can enjoy the app without feeling worried – when your profile is private, you only share your life with your friends. Therefore, you’ve got nothing to stress about.
Is your Snapchat profile private or public? Let us know in the comments section below!
I hate my Snapchat profile photo. In fact, it’s not even a photo, it’s a sequence of photos and makes me look like I’m on drugs. Yikes. Can I just remove it and not have a profile pic?
You aren’t the first person to be taken aback by the way that Snapchat actually uses a sequence of four or five different photos to animate your profile picture. It can be fun, and it’s certainly consistent with the spirit of Snapchat itself, but it can also be frustrating and distracting, particularly if you aren’t ready for the multiple photos and don’t know how to replace it!
Still, since the whole spirit of Snapchat is a sort of flipbook of stills with captions, maybe a better solution is to simply take a deep breath and stop worrying about your profile animation. After all, it is stuck in the middle of a yellow ghost so it’s not like anyone takes it particularly seriously.
Let’s have a look. Here’s my main Snapchat screen and you can see I have a (very dark) profile photo included:
Not my favorite. You’d think that tapping on it would let you delete it, but in fact, that just gets you to a spot where you can reshoot the sequence, trying again and again to get it “just so”:
Want to reshoot it? Tap on the grey circle and be ready for the photos!
But if you want to just delete the photo and have a generic profile, turns out you can do that from here too.
Tap on the top left of the screen and you’ll see:
Proceed by simply tapping on “Remove”.
And you’re replaced by a solid white image:
That’s all there is to it. Pretty easy.
But really, go back and play with the photo tool, see if you can get a set of pictures you like!

Seen your friends rocking cool colored Snapchat icons and want to know how to change your Snap code too? Check out our complete tutorial on editing and customizing your personal Snapchat icon here.
So about a week ago I noticed a new trend with Snapchat users; suddenly a bunch of folks on my Twitter feed were rocking customized Snapcode icons. Instead of the standard bright and cheery yellow behind the Snapcode ghost with your profile picture inside, I started seeing blue, green, red and other colored Snapchat icons – some even had different kinds of text and other effects added.
If you’ve seen some of these custom Snapchat icons around yourself and want to change the color of your Snapcode too, then we’ve put together a simple tutorial to help you do that. The best part of all is, there’s a free tool you can use online to do it. Check it out!
How To Change Your Snapchat Icon Color And Other Snapcode Customizations
To change the color of your Snapchat snap code icon, you will first need to download your personal snap code. Photo: iDigitalTimes
Step #1: Download Your Personal Snapcode
- On your computer visit www.snapchat.com
- At the bottom of the page under the “Community” heading, click on “Snapcodes.”
- Click the “Download Snapcode” button (you will need to login in with your Snapchat username and password to access your snap code.)
- Make sure you know where the folder downloaded because you will need to use a file inside it. The folder that downloads should be called “Snapcodes.”
Step #2: Customize Snapcode Color With Pixlr
Pixlr Editor is a free online tool you can use to edit your snap code icon color. Photo: iDigitalTimes
- Go to Pixlr.com
- Scroll down the page and click on the “Pixlr Editor”
- Click on the “Open Image From Computer” option.
- Navigate to the place where you saved the Snapcode folder.
- Open the Snapcode folder and select “Snapcode.png.” This will place your personal snap code in the Pixlr editor
- On the left-hand side of the screen is a tool menu. Select the wand tool. Click inside the white ghost with the wand. The ghost should now have a moving outline.
- Press the delete key on your computer or go to the “Edit” menu at the top of the screen and click on “Clear.” The Ghost should now be clear (gray checkered background)
Once you’ve cleared the inside of your Snapchat snap code ghost, it should be transparent (grey checkers) Photo: iDigitalTimes
The Hue and Saturation tool will allow you to adjust the color of your snap code. Photo: iDigitalTimes
Step #3: Add a Custom Photo To Snapcode
Once you have the color you want, you need to add a photo under the Layer menu. Photo: iDigitalTimes
- Go to ”Layer Menu at the top of the screen and click on “Open Image as Layer”
- Choose a picture on your computer that you want to use. It will show up on top of your snap code.
- If the size is not right, go to the “Edit” menu and select, “Free Transform.” You can now size the image by grabbing one of the corners and dragging in or out.
- Once the image is the proper size, go to the right-hand side of the screen. Your image should be a small icon called “Image 1.” Grab it and drag it under the snap code icon labeled “Image 0.” The image should now be layered under the snap code.
- Now go to the File menu and select “Save.” Save you edited snap code where you can find it.
- You can now send the edited snap code to friends or post it on your social media page!
Once you have sized the photo the way you want it, you need to move it to the back of your snapcode. Photo: iDigitalTimes

Snapchat lets you add your own photo to your snapcode. You can forgo the image but that leaves your snapcode blank with just the white ghost in the middle. The recent update to Snapchat has changed that. If you’ve created a bitmoji avatar for your Snapchat account, it’s automatically added to your snapcode if you don’t have a profile picture. You can also edit bitmoji moods in Snapchat.
Edit Bitmoji Moods In Snapchat
Make sure you’ve created a bitmoji avatar for your Snapchat account. Open Snapchat and tap the bitmoji at the top left. On your profile screen, tap ‘Edit Bitmoji’ at the top left. This will take you to the Bitmoji screen. Tap ‘Change my Bitmoji selfie’.
On the following screen, select the mood you want to set for your bitmoji, and tap ‘Done’ at the bottom. Your Bitmoji will update automatically.
This is a new Snapchat feature so you will have to update the app to get it. If you have your own picture added to your snapcode, you will have to remove it to add your bitmoji avatar to it.
Remove Profile Picture From Snapchat
Open Snapchat. Tap the ghost or bitmoji icon at the top left of the home screen. This will take you to your profile screen. Tap your snapcode. On your snapcode screen, tap the reverse arrow button on the right of the capture button. Snapchat will confirm if you want to remove your profile picture. Tap ‘Remove’ and you’re done.
Snapchat will immediately add your bitmoji avatar to the snapcode, if you’ve created one.
We should warn you that, like all new Snapchat features, this one is also rolling out incrementally to users worldwide. Before you remove your profile picture from Snapchat, check if it will be replaced with your bitmoji avatar.
To check this, tap your bitmoji avatar at the top left of your profile screen. If you see the ‘Edit My Bitmoji Selfie’ option on the Bitmoji screen, then the feature has rolled out to your account. If you don’t see this option, then Snapchat will not add your bitmoji avatar to your snapcode.
The solution in this case is to just wait it out. Snapchat features don’t take very long to roll out worldwide. It’s only a matter of time until you get it. At the most, you only have to wait a week. Make sure you’ve updated the app, of course and that you have a bitmoji avatar configured and connected to your Snapchat account.
So, once your Bitmoji avatar has been automatically added to your snapcode, is there any way to change it back to your previous profile picture?
You can unlink your avatar but that’s all. Snapchat has removed profile pictures. You cannot revert back to one.

Many social-media apps have a “dark mode” these days, allowing users to change the color of their app’s interface to darker tones instead of bright ones, which can feel easier on the eyes and sometimes save battery life.
For a long time, Snapchat was one of the few major social media apps without a dark mode. But since last year, they’ve been rolling out dark mode to more and more iPhone users. Most iPhone users will be able to use Snapchat’s dark mode now — unfortunately, it’s still missing for Android users.
Here’s how to check if Snapchat’s dark mode is available on your iPhone, and how to enable it.
How to enable Snapchat dark mode on iPhone
1. Open the Snapchat app on your device and log in if you’re prompted to do so.
2. In the upper-left corner of your screen, tap on your profile picture.
3. In the upper-right corner of your profile page, tap on the “Settings” icon that looks like a gear.
4. In the “My Account” section of the Settings menu, scroll down until you see an option called “App Appearance.” If you can’t find “App Appearance” listed, it means you can’t use dark mode yet.
5. In the “App Appearance” menu, tap “Always Dark” to enable Snapchat’s dark mode. You can also choose “Match System” to have the app sync with your iPhone’s settings, so if your iPhone changes between light and dark automatically throughout the day, Snapchat will too.

We all know that basically every social media app is trying to compete with TikTok right now, right? Snapchat is definitely no exception. The messaging app just added a huge new music update as a not-so-subtle way to compete with TikTok, but Snap isn’t stopping there.
In another bid to unseat the video-sharing giant, Snapchat has added the ability for users to make public profiles in order to share content they create with a wider audience. It’s actually a pretty brilliant way for Snapchat to cater to an audience of people who want to create viral content without hopping from one platform to another. Interested in getting a public profile? Here’s how!
Here’s how to get a public profile on Snapchat.
Public profiles on Snapchat aren’t exactly new, but they were previously limited to verified creators. You could consume all kinds of content on Snapchat, but it was all coming from celebrities, digital stars, brands, and the creators of Snapchat Lenses (in addition to Stories from your personal friends, of course). Now, anyone can have a public profile and try to build out an audience on Snapchat.
The company made the announcement in September 2020 at its VidCon presentation and people were instantly excited about the news.
Now, you may be wondering: Why would I want a public profile on Snapchat? If you’re interested in creating and sharing content in the hopes of establishing an audience and being (somewhat) internet famous, then a public Creator Profile is exactly what you’re looking for. The profile will offer creators advanced analytics to see what type of content performs best with their audience, but that’s far from the only perk.
