1. Sittercity

Best for: Finding sitters who have experience dealing with people with ADHD, autism, diabetes, epilepsy, and
other conditions

Membership: Free | $35 (1 month) | $49 (3 months) | $98 (12 months)

Sittercity is a platform for caregivers and families to find each other. To get approved on Sittercity, nannies go through an extensive background check and families can rest assured of their safety as they have several screening tools in place, such as secure messaging, Sitter ID authentication, and running applicants through Family Watchdog.

2. Sitter

Best for: Sitter Pro Business Management Tool for agencies to track business performance and growth, and manage the quality of care

Membership: Free | $10 (1 month) | $100 (12 months)

Since the local agencies have their background checks already in place, families do not have to worry about the safety of the caregivers they find on the platform.

3. Au Pair

Best for: Families looking for live-in care

Membership: Fee varies by country | $450 family match fee | Fee agreed on by both parties

Au Pair is an international program that allows caregivers from 60 countries to apply for a J-1 visitor exchange visa. This allows them to live with an American family for a minimum of 12 months whilst caring for their children. Although this is a more expensive alternative to traditional nannies or babysitters, families who are looking for childcare, a cultural experience, and education for their children opt for such care.

4. UrbanSitter

6. Helpr

Best for: Getting a sitter within 3 hours’ notice

Membership: No membership fee

Helpr provides high-quality, affordable backup care to working parents when their primary care becomes unavailable. Employers can sign up on Helpr to offer care benefit packages to their employees. This allows them to get in-home care for adults and children, while saving up to 60% on hourly care costs compared to traditional models.

About a couple of months ago I signed up for sittercity as a sitter. I completed and paid for my background check and then a week or two later I received a message through sittercity from a guy who wanted a babysitter for his 3-year-old daughter.

I was so happy until he said he didn’t want an interview. Then I was confused. If I was a parent I wouldn’t just trust a profile. Then I started reading reviews from other sitters who said these people are scammers and say they will pay you a crazy amount of money for like $2,000-$3,000 and ask you to like cash a check that’s not even valid or something and send the money to them and in the end you’re the one who has to deal with the police.

And that guy did just that. I can’t remember the details of what he was trying to do because it’s been like 4 months but I do know he was trying to scam me. But I do remember exactly what he told me when I told him he was a scammer and that if he was to contact me again I would contact the police. He replied saying, “Go ahead and I will ruin your life till you wish you were dead.” After that I deleted my sittercity account and just stopped all contact with that guy.

Take my advice and please don’t use sittercity to find a job and if you do go through a situation like me just tell the person no thank you and end contact with them. Do not send them your resume especially if it has your address and phone number. Don’t continue conversing with them. Say you already have a job or just don’t resond.

Remember if a person wants to hire you as a sitter without an interview immediatly there should be a red flag and you should know that they’re scammers. Sittercity needs to do background checks on the parents not just the sitters because if it wasn’t for the reviews that i have read about this site then I will be one of the hundreds of people who were scammed.

A database modeling system for the Kohana framework (v3.0+).

Each model must:

  • extend the Sprig class
  • define a protected _init() method and set the field mappings

Example of a model:

Interacting with models

Loading models is done with the Sprig::factory($name) method:

Loading models by calling new Model_Foo will not work! You must use the factory() method.

Model data is read using object properties:

Model data is changed the same way:

You can also use the values() method set many fields using an associative array:

Create, Read, Update, and Delete (CRUD)

Reading records is done by setting the search values, then calling the load() method:

It is also possible to pre-populate the model using an array of values:

Creating new records is done using the create() method:

If the model data does not satisfy the validation requirements, a Validate_Exception will be thrown. This exception should be caught and used to show the end user the error messages:

Updating a record is done using the update() method:

Note that you must always call load() before update() or the query will not be built properly.

Deleting a record is done using the delete() method:

It is possible to generate a complete form very quickly using the inputs() method:

Each input will be populated with the current value of the field.

If you need the field name as the inputs() key instead of the label, use FALSE :

Customizing the Form

Creating custom forms can by done using the input() method to create place individual fields:

This allows much finer control of how your forms are displayed, at gives control over what fields will be updated.

Field Object Reference

Accessing a field object is done using the field() method:

An array of fields can be accessed using the fields() method:

Types of fields

Sprig offers most database column types as classes. Each field must extend the Sprig_Field class. Each field has the following properties:

empty : Allow empty() values to be used. Default is FALSE .

primary : A primary key field. Multiple primary keys (composite key) can be specified. Default is FALSE .

unique : This field must have a unique value within the model table. Default is FALSE .

null : Convert all empty() values to NULL . Default is FALSE .

editable : Show the field in forms. Default is TRUE .

default : Default value for this field. Default is ” (an empty string).

choices : Limit the value of this field to an array of choices. This will change the form input into a select list. No default value.

column : Database column name for this field. Default will be the same as the field name, except for foreign keys, which will use the field name with _id appended. In the case of HasMany fields, this value is the column name that contains the foreign key value.

label : Human readable label. Default will be the field name converted with Inflector::humanize() .

description : Description of the field. Default is ” (an empty string).

filters : Validate filters for this field.

rules : Validate rules for this field.

callbacks : Validate callbacks for this field.

An auto-incrementing (sequence) field.

Implies primary = TRUE and editable = FALSE .

A boolean (TRUE/FALSE) field, representing by a checkbox.

Implies empty = TRUE and default = FALSE .

A single line of text, represented by a text input.

Also has the min_length and max_length properties.

A password, represented by a password input.

Also has the hash_with property, a callback used to hash new values.

Note: For security reasons, the input generated by a password field will never have a value attribute.

A float or decimal number, represented by a text input.

Also has the places property.

An integer number, represented with a text input (or a select input, if the choices property is set).

Also has the min_value and max_value properties.

A large block of text, represented by a textarea.

Extends Sprig_Field_Char , but requires the choices property.

Extends Sprig_Field_Char , but requires a valid email address as the value.

Extends Sprig_Field_Integer , but requires a valid UNIX timestamp as the value.

Also has the format (any string accepted by date) and auto_now_create and auto_now_update properties.

Extends Sprig_Field_Char , represents an image file.

Requires the path property, the path to the directory where images will be stored.

A reference to another model by the parent model primary key value. Does not produce a form input.

Has the model property, the name of another Sprig model.

A reference to another model by the child model primary key value. Represented by a select input.

Has the model property, the name of another Sprig model.

A reference to many other models by this model primary key value. Does not produce a form input.

Has the model property, the name of another Sprig model.

A reference to another model by a pivot table that contains the both primary keys. Represented by a list of checkbox inputs.

Has the model property, the name of another Sprig model.

Has the through property, the name of the pivot table. By default, uses both model names, sorted alphabetically and combined with an underscore. For example: a many-to-many relationship between Model_Post and Model_Tag would default to post_tag as the table name.

Many To Many Relations

There’s a few ways to add and remove many to many relations. The first is to use the raw field names:

This will completely overwrite all the relationships for this model. The only relations to this model will be 1, 2 and 3.

I have a question/concern and was wondering what the parents and nannies alike on here think. I have been using sittercity since 2007 to land nanny jobs and I have met some awesome families to work for on this site. I have never had issues with any of the multiple families I have met on here and am one of the top-rated nannies in my area. Last week, I corresponded with a mother who tried to basically nickel and dime me and I decided amicably that it was not a good match for us and told her I thought it was best I continued my search and she did as well. We never interviewed. we only corresponded via sittercity.

Well today I check my profile and I see that she wrote me a horrendous review and gave me one star. She stated that I was a flake, unreliable and was only interested in the money issue of being a Nanny, that I specifically told her I didn’t even like children!! All of these are empty lies! I think she just is angry because I wouldn’t work for her for what she was offering me. $7/Hr for two children, one infant and one toddler. I submitted a response to her review and tried to say my side of the story. I didn’t sling any mud and was very respectful of her opinion even though I didn’t agree with it.

My question to all of you is, as a parent how bad would ONE review in 4 yrs affect you hiring a potential nanny? I really depend on this website to find jobs and now I feel like no one will even consider me. Is there a way to get a bad review removed? Have any of you nannies been in this situation before? Thanks in advance for all your advice. I wrote the woman on sittercity and asked if we could talk it out, however I haven’t and do not expect to hear from her again since she knows she lied.

OP this is what I did. I kind of hate care.com but they are the biggest and quickest job getting site out there. I got a speeding ticket like 9 years ago that I took to court to fight the good fight because the cop was in the wrong, long story short no one cared and I got a slightly lower level traffic ticket but now it shows up on my background check (while none of my other traffic tickets do.) So when a family ran a background check on me care.com flagged and closed my account. I called them and asked them to look at it, it was just a traffic ticket I took to court, they said they don’t care. Having a traffic ticket is as bad as being a child molester in their eyes. I had a lot of reviews and stuff I lost but I just had to make a new account with all the same info and I tell perspective families I will do background checks through any agency but not care.com and I’ve never had a problem. I still get lots of work through them.

I really wish there was a better site than care.com. I really can’t trust a site that allows for an employer to choose such a low hourly rate (and illegal). It just puts such a sour taste in my mouth and I hate giving them my business.

OP, your experience makes me dislike them even more. Also, what kind of potential employer flags someone because a TIcKET showed up in their background check?

Out of the two of you, I guarantee one of you is a pain in the ass to work with and I’m sure you can figure out who.

Anyways, hope your new profile works out and you find a job quickly and can get off that crappy site

Im not OP but I posted the story about being removed from care.com. The care.com system flagged me and suspended my account, not the family that ran the background check. I actually went on to work for that family for 4 years because we had already exchanged email addresses and I emailed her to let her know what was going on.

The problem with care.com is the system is automated and they either don’t have the staff to or tell their staff not to look into flaggings on a case by case basis. I clearly explained my situation and was told I could only get my account reinstated if I had the infraction removed from my background check within 90 days. Because there was no mistake to remove (the ticket was valid and I went to court thus it showed up on a courthouse records search) I had no recourse and my account was deleted 90 days later.

It’s really annoying and they could be a really good company and website with a couple changes. They are really popular, it’s a shame to see them become so crappy to deal with.
