How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

If you’ve created a Facebook group, or another person has made you an administrator of their group, you are able to change that group’s name.

While Facebook has some restrictions, for the most part, you can call a group whatever you want, so long as the name doesn’t violate Facebook’s Community Standards.

You can change a Facebook group’s name using a laptop, desktop computer , or mobile device. Read on to learn how.

How to change a Facebook group’s name using your computer

In order to change the name of a Facebook group, you’ll need to be a group administrator — that is, you have to either be the person who created the group itself, or be made a group admin by the group’s creator.

1. After you’ve logged in to your Facebook account on your PC or Mac computer, click on the name of the group that you want to change. If you’re having trouble finding the group, look for it under “Shortcuts” on the left side of your screen.

2. Underneath the group’s header image, click on “More” and then click on “Edit Group Settings.”

3. Next to “Group Name,” click on the field with the group’s name in it and type the new name for your group.

4. Once you have typed the name you want, scroll to the bottom of the screen and click “Save.”

Your Facebook group’s name should now have changed to the one you typed in. Facebook may send an automatic notification to other members of the group about the name change.

How to change a Facebook group’s name using your mobile device

The process for a mobile device is similar in that you’ll need to be one of the group’s admins in order to change the group’s name.

1. Open the Facebook app on your iPhone or Android and tap on the Menu icon in the upper-right corner of the screen, represented by three horizontal lines.

2. Tap on “Groups” and then tap on the name of your group. If you’re having trouble finding it, tap on “Your Groups” and then scroll down to “Groups You Manage.”

3. In the top-right corner of the screen, tap the icon resembling a shield. Then, tap on “Group Settings” in the pop-up menu.

4. Tap on “Name and Description.”

5. Tap the field underneath “Group Name” and type the new name for your group. Once you’re done, tap “Save” in the top-right corner.

How to use Facebook group announcements

As a Facebook Group owner, I’ve often wished there was a way to pin more than one post at the top of the group page. Finally, Facebook has made that possible with their new announcements feature. See this short video to see exactly how it works. (for more info, see this from Facebook: A New Investment in Community Leaders.

As a Facebook group owner, there may be certain posts you want to highlight for your community. The new announcements feature lets you easily add posts to the top of the page in a way that’s not too terribly obtrusive. Up to ten posts can be added to the announcements section, which show up at the top of the group page. However, only one announcement shows up, with a little “See More” link to view the rest of them.

‘Pin to Top’ is still available, and can be used to pin one post as the top announcement.

Group owners can also set specific posts to expire at a set time. This will remove the post from the announcements section, but won’t delete it from the page.

I can see quite a few uses for the new announcement feature.

  • Group rules
  • Special offers
  • Group member recognition
  • Upcoming events
  • FAQs

Although this isn’t a super huge update from Facebook, it’s one I’ve wanted for a long time. So I was pretty happy to see this when I stumbled on it. How about you? If you’re a Facebook group owner, do you think you’ll use this new feature?

Local Group Policy Editor is a Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in that is used to configure and modify Group Policy settings within Group Policy Objects (GPOs).

Administrators need to be able to quickly modify Group Policy settings for multiple users and computers throughout a network environment. The Local Group Policy Editor provides administrators with a hierarchical tree structure for configuring Group Policy settings in GPOs. These GPOs can then be linked to sites, domains, and organizational units (OU) that contain computer or user objects.

Local Group Policy Editor consists of two main sections:

User ConfigurationВ В В Holds settings that are applied to users (at sign-in and during periodic background refresh),

Computer ConfigurationВ В В Holds settings that are applied to computers (at startup and during periodic background refresh).

These sections are further divided into the different types of policies that can be set, such as Administrative Templates, Security, and Folder Redirection.

To work efficiently, administrators need to have immediate access to information about the function and purpose of individual policy settings. For Administrative Templates policy settings, Local Group Policy Editor provides information about each policy setting directly in the web view of the console. This information shows operating system requirements, defines the policy setting, and includes any specific details about the effect of enabling or disabling the policy setting.

In addition, developers should be able to quickly and easily add Group Policy support to their software products. The Local Group Policy Editor is designed to be extensible. The easiest way for developers to extend Local Group Policy Editor for their applications is to write custom Administrative Template files that they can add to Local Group Policy Editor.

Use the Local Group Policy Editor

The following procedures explain how to open the Local Group Policy Editor from the command line or as an MMC snap-in.

To open the Local Group Policy Editor from the command line

  • On the Start screen, click the Apps arrow. On the Apps screen, typeВ gpedit.msc, and then press ENTER.

To open the Local Group Policy Editor as a snap-in

On the Start screen, click the Apps arrow. On the Apps screen, typeВ mmc, and then press ENTER.

On the File menu, click Add/Remove Snap-in.

In the Add or Remove Snap-ins dialog box, click Local Group Policy Editor, and then click Add.

In the Select Group Policy Object dialog box, click Browse.

Click This computer to edit the Local Group Policy Object, or click Another computer to edit the Local Group Policy Object for a different computer. Click Users to edit Administrator, Non-Administrator, or per-user Local Group Policy Objects.

Click Finish.

If you want to save a Local Group Policy Editor console and choose which GPO opens in it from the command line: In the Select Group Policy Object dialog box, select the Allow the focus of the Group Policy Snap-in to be changed when launching from the command line check box.

Facebook is, first and foremost, a place for sharing. Sharing your thoughts, your feelings, your life events, and your photos. It’s there to help you document your life, for you and everyone around you. It’s a digital scrapbook.

It’s easy enough to add photos to Facebook through a post, but if you want to keep them more organized — especially if you have a lot of photos – the best way to do that is to make an album.

Albums are exactly what they sound like — they’re the folders in your computer’s file explorer, there to help you keep track of which pictures are from. You can make an album for all the photos from a family vacation, or from a semester of school, or for someone’s birthday party — the possibilities are endless. You can add photos to that album all at once, or add a few and go back and add more later as you take them.

You can add an Facebook album no matter where you are. Here’s how to do it.

Facebook has recently changed its policies to curb the plague called ‘fake news’. The unfortunate collateral of this witch-hunt has turned out to be the media organizations and Facebook Pages in general.

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

According to Facebook, content from Pages that do have meaningful interaction will show up under the new timeline meta. And the term meaningful interaction here means comments and shares that shows people want others to know about these posts.

Before we get into the intricacies of how a Facebook group is made, let’s take a look at why this is a good idea in the current scenario.

First off, Facebook has mentioned that groups and posts from groups will have a higher priority on the Newsfeed in the new meta that has been introduced.

This is due to the fact that Facebook is looking to keep true to the motto of the social media website. And that is to make sure that it is a platform to make personal connections and not a news aggregation website.

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

Groups give the admin a fair amount of control over the kind of people who can be present in it. This tends to keep out trolls who otherwise ruin the experience of perfectly good posts. This means there will be less fake news.

Though there are no significant downsides to this movement, one might say that the reach of the posts from groups will never be close to anything that of a page. But that is what has created this present scenario that Facebook has to mend.

Now, creating groups is a simple business and can be done in a couple of simple steps. But for a group to look and feel like the established ones, it requires more than a couple of steps.

Creating Your Group

To begin the process, click on the drop-down button to the right of the ‘?’ button at the top-right corner of the Facebook home page.

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

Now, click Create Group from the list and that should open up the following window.

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

Now, this is where you must add a name of your group. Once that’s done, you can just add the people you want to here from the tab below. You must remember that you are the ‘Admin’ of the group you create by default.

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

Now that you have added the people of your choice, it’s time to select the Privacy settings of the group, which is an essential part.

There are three types of privacy settings that can be selected for a group. These are Public, Closed, and Secret.

Facebook defines Public groups as the ones that are visible to all Facebook users, along with its posts. Closed groups are the ones that everyone can see but the posts remain accessible only to the members.

Finally, the Secret groups cannot be found by anyone and neither can the posts be viewed by anyone apart from the accepted members. This format is strictly based on invite only.

Here’s a look at all the nuances of the above-mentioned privacy settings for groups.

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

Now, when creating the groups, Facebook does try to make the job easier by providing some options with pre-defined sets of people with names based on the interests, work and pages you like.

This would mean that the group name Facebook may suggest something like, ‘Friends who like Guiding Tech’, and the list would include your friends who have already liked our Facebook page.

This may not be the most efficient name of all the people you wanted in your group, but you could always select one of the options. That is based on how many friends Facebook is offering that you want in your group.

Beyond Creating Groups

Well, just creating the group is not enough, it still needs a relevant cover photo and an apt description in the About tab. And these may seem secondary, but talking strictly from the perspective of a Social Media Editor, I would say that these are much more important than you think.

An attractive cover photo is essential to keep the people coming back to the group.

After the group is created and the members are added, you need to decide if you’re going to be the only admin or give some other people the power. You can assign moderators as well who don’t enjoy all the powers of that of an admin, but can approve posts and add people. These can be done in the Members tab in the group.

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

An attractive cover photo is essential to keep the people coming back to the group. And changing it regularly indicates that the admins are an active lot.

Well, now all there is left is to start posting on the group and get the members of the group engaged in the conversations.

Windows and a lot of third-party apps store settings in the registry. If you’re wanting to edit the registry, there are a few ways you can do it. Here’s how to edit the Windows registry from the Command Prompt.

Before we get started, it’s important that you back up the registry, as well as your computer, before you make any edits. One wrong move can make your system unstable or even completely inoperable. You can also create a System Restore point to quickly roll back your system if something goes wrong.

Microsoft themselves publicly state that adding, modifying, or deleting Windows registry subkeys and values should only be done by advanced users, admins, and IT professionals. Take caution before you make changes.

Edit the Windows Registry from the Command Prompt

There’s a long list of reg operations. We’ll give a couple of examples of how to execute basic operations. If you’re interested in the full list of operations, each syntax, and what the parameters within each syntax represents, check out the list at the bottom of the article.

Once you’re ready to edit the Windows Registry, open the Command Prompt as an administrator.

Open the Command Prompt as Admin

To open the Command Prompt as an admin, type “cmd” in the Windows search bar.

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

Next, right-click the “Command Prompt” app in the search results, and select “Run As Administrator” from the menu.

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

Command Prompt will now open in admin mode, and we can begin editing the Windows registry.

Learn the Operation Types

We’ll give a full list of the reg commands and each respective syntax later. For now, you can get a list of the operation types, as well as additional help with each operation, from the Command Prompt.

To get the list of operations, run this command:

The Operation List will appear, as well as the Return Code for each command.

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

Here’s the list of operations and what each does, as described by Microsoft:

  • Add: Adds a new subkey or entry to the registry.
  • Compare: Compares specified registry subkeys or entries.
  • Copy: Copies a registry entry to a specified location on a local or remote machine.
  • Delete: Deletes a subkey or entries.
  • Export: Copies the specified subkeys, entries, and values of the local computer into a file for transfer to other servers.
  • Import: Copies the contents of a file that contains exported registry subkeys, entries, and values into the registry of the local computer.
  • Load: Writes saved subkeys and entries into a different subkey in the registry. This is intended to be used with temp files that are used for troubleshooting or editing registry entries.
  • Query: Returns a list of the next tier of subkeys and entries that are located und a specified subkey in the registry.
  • Restore: Writes saved subkeys and entries back to the registry.
  • Save: Saves a copy of specified subkeys, entries, and values of the registry in a specified file.
  • Unload: Removes a section of the registry that was loaded using the REG LOAD operation.

And, the return codes:

  • 0: Successful
  • 1: Failed

To get help for with a specific operation, append the operation name to the middle of the previous command:

So, if I wanted help on the “Add” operation, I would run:

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

As you can see, all of the information that you need about the specified operation is returned, including the syntax, parameters, and even some examples.

Now that we know all that we need to know about REG ADD , let’s try to put it in action.

Add a SubKey or Entry to the Registry

First things first, here’s the syntax for REG ADD that we retrieved from using the REG ADD /? command:

The specifies the full path of the subkey. Valid root keys for the local computer are HKLM, HKCU, HKCR, HKU, and HKCC. You can use the HKLM and HKU root keys for remote computers. /v specifies the name of the registry entry to be added under the specified subkey. We’ll define the rest of the parameters later, but for this example, this is all we’ll need.

So, let’s say we want to add a subkey named HowToGeekSubkey under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software. We’ll run the following command:

If the operation was successfully executed, the Command Prompt will let you know.

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

If you want to double-check that the operation was successful, you can look for yourself using the Registry Editor.

Open the Registry Editor by typing “regedit” in the Windows search bar and selecting the Registry Editor app.

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

Navigate to the location of the newly added subkey. In our case: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > HowToGeekSubkey.

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

Now that we’ve confirmed it’s there, let’s delete it.

Delete a Subkey or Entry from the Registry

Here’s the syntax for the REG DELETE operation:

The parameters that we care about for now are the same as before. That is, and /v valuename .

If we want to delete the HowToGeekSubkey subkey from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software that we just created, we will run this command:

This time, you’ll be asked if you really want to delete the subkey. Type Yes and press “Enter.”

Again, the Command Prompt will let you know if the operation was executed successfully.

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

You can cross-verify that the subkey was actually deleted from the Registry Editor. Navigate to the location that the subkey used to live and see if it was removed.

REG Operations, Syntax, and Parameter Descriptions

Though we only covered two simple examples, there’s a decent-sized list of REG operations. Each operation can have a potentially complex syntax. For easy access, we’ll list out all the details provided by Microsoft here.

If Windows Search just isn’t cutting it for helping you find your files, you can give it a little help by adding tags to many file types, from images in JPEG and PNG format to Office documents in DOCX, XLSX, and PPTX format.

Tags work more or less like they do in any other system—photo libraries, social networks, et cetera. Unfortunately, there’s no way for Windows to auto-generate tags by itself. You’ll have to add and manage them manually. Then again, that might be a plus, depending on your personal style of organisation.

Tagging Files in Windows Explorer

Let’s take a look at my disorganized Pictures folder for an example. I use some subfolders for basic organization, but none of the files in the main folder are really named correctly—it’s just a bunch of stuff that doesn’t fit anywhere else.

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

I’ll use this old stock photo of Adam West as an example. To tag any file, right-click it in Explorer, and then click the “Properties” command. In the image’s properties window, switch over to the “Details” tab. You’ll see the “Tags” entry in the “Description” section.

(If you don’t see a “Tags” entry here, that file type doesn’t support tags.)

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

To the right of the “Tags” entry, click the empty space in the “Value” column and a text box appears that just contains some “Add a tag” text. Type any tag you’d like to add. There are no predefined tags, so what you type is up to you. A tag can be any length and use any kind of standard character, including spaces, though we recommend keeping them reasonably short and easy to remember.

If you want to add multiple tags at once, just separate them with a semicolon.

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

When you’re done tagging, just click “OK” to finish.

Using Tags to Search

After you’ve tagged some files, you can then use those tags in your searches. But things are a little weird, depending on where you’re doing your searching.

In File Explorer, if you have the folder open where the file is contained, you can just type a tag into the search box and Windows will show you files tagged that way. Of course, the results also include any files that have that text in the name or other searchable content.

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

However, if you’re outside that folder (say, you want to search your whole PC or the entire Documents folder), you’ll have to add the “tags:” operator to the beginning of your search. The easiest way to do this is to just type “tags:” into the search box, and then type the tag text for which you want to search.

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

You can also add that operator from the “Search” tab on File Explorer’s Ribbon, if you want. It’s more cumbersome than just typing the operator, but it might be useful if you’ve already performed a search and just want to narrow it down to tags.

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

Tagging Files While Saving in Microsoft Office

Some apps, including all the Microsoft Office apps, let you add tags to files as you save them. Other apps, like Photoshop, do not. You’ll just have to play around with your apps to see which allow saving with tags.

The subject and body of a received email are at the whim of the sender, but you can change the subject line to something better or add notes to the body quickly and easily using Microsoft Outlook.

Have you ever forwarded an email to yourself or created a new task instead of marking an email for Followup just so you could add notes to it? Maybe you’ve dragged an email into OneNote or Evernote so you can write a little context around it? Or perhaps you’ve just quietly cursed the sender for not adding a useful subject line or not adding a subject at all.

One way or another, received emails would sometimes be more useful if you could edit the subject or add notes to them. But there’s no need for a clunky process or third-party software because, in Microsoft Outlook, you can edit a received email.

How to Edit the Subject Line of an Email

To edit the subject line of an email, open the email in Microsoft Outlook by double-clicking it. From there, place the cursor on the subject line and start typing.

How to Edit the Body of an Email

Editing the body of an email in Microsoft Outlook is almost as simple as editing the subject line.

Open the email by double-clicking it, then select Actions > Edit Message on the ribbon.

We’ve all been there:В

Staring at your website and just obsessing over a few little things that just don’t seem “right”.

Maybe it’s the text, the font, the spacing, the colors, or something else.

Either way, youВ wishВ you could simply make a quick edit and hit save when everything looks perfect.В

The good news is that modern browsers, (like Chrome, Firefox and Safari) offer a couple ways to preview simple changes to any webpage. Yes, any web page. Even ones that aren’t yours!

This means you can modify the HTML and CSS (also known as source code) right in your browser.

Keep in mind, this only modifies the local version on your computer and doesn’t actually rewrite anything on the server. It’s just a preview.В

But wait, there’s more!В

There is nowВ a wayВ to make edits to your website using your browser’s developer tools that can be permanently saved on the server, so keep reading!

Here is the step-by-step process for editing a web page using Google Chrome.

How to edit a website using developer toolsВ

  • Open any web page with Chrome and hover your mouse over the object you want to edit (ie: text, buttons, or images).
  • Right-click the object and choose “Inspect” from the context menu. The developer tools will open in the lower half of your screen and the selected element will be highlighted within the interface, also known as the DOM.В
  • Double-click the selected object and it will switch to edit mode. You can replace the text or style attributes (ie: colors, fonts, spacing) and then click outside the DOM to apply the changes.
  • Use the “find” shortcut to help you look for specific text or style attributes. (“CMD + F” on Mac or “CTRL + F” on PC)

Edit any website’s text using our handy bookmarkletВ

  • Highlight the bolded below:

javascript:document.body.contentEditable = ‘true’; document.designMode=’on’; void 0

  • Drag the highlighted text into your bookmarks bar.
  • Click the icon whenever you want to edit text on a page!
  • How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

Now that you know how to modify any website, let’s get back to what’s most important.

How to edit your website and save the changes

This could not be any simpler. If your website is built and hosted with Pagecloud, you can use your browser’s developer tools to make permanent edits to any of your web pages.

Using the developer tools with Pagecloud:

    • Log in to Pagecloud.
    • Go to the page on your website you want to modify.В
    • Click on the ‘edit page’ symbol in the bottom right hand corner. If you can’t see it, refresh the page. (“CMD + R” on Mac or “CTRL + R” on PC).
    • Once the editor is loaded, followВ these steps.
    • Hit save in the editor or use the shortcut: (“CMD + S” on Mac or “CTRL + S” on PC).

    Easy right?

How about some even better news? You can bypass the developer tools and simply make changes right in the editor.В

PageCloud lets you completely customize your pages without ever having to go into the source code. Just click, and edit using the palette. If you’ve never written code, this will be a much more user-friendly interface!

Check out How to build a professional website for more tips on creating a website with PageCloud

If you’re a developer and want to take your site to the next level, you can access the JavaScript editor by using the “J + S” shortcut while logged into the PageCloud website editor.

You can tweak your new taskbar — somewhat

Share All sharing options for: How to customize your Windows 11 taskbar

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

If you’ve updated your computer from Windows 10 to Windows 11, you may find that your taskbar isn’t quite as configurable — and perhaps not quite as useful — as it was before. For example, the old, familiar Start menu with its configurable Live Tiles is now gone. The search box is no longer within the taskbar but is accessed by first clicking on the Start menu — an extra step. (Although the fact that Cortana is no longer automatically part of that search box can be considered, by many at least, as a plus.)

Another thing: the taskbar is now permanently affixed to the bottom of the screen — so if you were more comfortable having it on top of the screen, or on either side, you’re out of luck.

As you might imagine, Windows users are already posting fixes for at least some of these issues — as long as you’re comfortable tweaking your Windows Registry. For example, there’s one that purportedly lets you move the taskbar to the top of the screen, and another that lets you change the size of the taskbar.

These apps let you customize Windows 11 to bring the taskbar back to life

It’s possible that Microsoft will bring back some of these abilities in future updates of the new OS. For now, let’s concentrate on how you can adjust the current Windows 11 taskbar.

Pin an app to the taskbar

Pinning an app to the taskbar at the bottom can be a little — well, weird. There are several ways to handle it:

    • If an app is running, its icon will appear in the taskbar with a line underneath to indicate that it is active. If you want its icon to remain in the taskbar even after you’ve closed it, then right-click on the icon and select “Pin to taskbar.”

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

Right-click on an active icon and select “Pin to taskbar”

    • If an app isn’t running, but its icon is on your desktop, you can pin it to the Taskbar as well. Right-click on the desktop icon and click on “Show more options.” A longer menu will open up; about two-thirds down, you’ll see “Pin to taskbar.”
    • You can also click on the Start icon, select the “All apps” button, and then right-click on the app you want. If you don’t see “Pin to taskbar” in the menu that pops up, then select “More” and you’ll see “Pin to taskbar.”

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

You can also pin an app to your taskbar from the “All apps” menu.

Remove an app from the taskbar

Most apps are simple to remove: just right-click on the icon and select “Unpin from taskbar.”

A few of the icons take a little more effort to remove. The Start menu icon is, as might be expected, unremovable. But there are four other icons that can’t be removed but can be hidden. The easiest way to do that is:

    • Right click on the taskbar.
    • Select “Taskbar settings.” (You can also get there by going to “Settings” > “Personalization” > “Taskbar.”)
    • Toggle off any of the four icons — “Search,” “Task view,” “Widgets,” or “Chat” — that you want to hide.

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

You can hide four of the standard taskbar icons.

Move your icons to the left

Those of us who having been using Windows 10 (or 7 or earlier iterations) are used to accessing the Start menu from the lower left-hand corner of the screen. If your muscle memory keeps your hand drifting to that corner, you can move the center app icons so they are to your left instead:

    • Right-click on the taskbar and click on “Taskbar settings.”
    • Select “Taskbar behaviors.”
    • Look for “Taskbar alignment” and click on the button on the right where it says “Center.” Select “Left” instead.
    • Close the settings window, and you’ll see that the app icons in the taskbar have moved to the left, with the Start menu icon in the corner.

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

You can move the icons from the center to the left of the taskbar.

Incidentally, the “Taskbar behaviors” section of the settings lets you do more than move your icons to the left. It also lets you automatically hide the taskbar (something that’s been a taskbar behavior for a very long time); show a badge on taskbar apps to let you know if, say, you have any unread messages; handle how the taskbar works on multiple displays; and show a clean desktop by clicking on the far right corner of the taskbar.

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

Taskbar behaviors include hiding the taskbar and showing unread messages.

    Taskbar corner icons and overflow

While the taskbar corner icons and the overflow window aren’t new, I never actually knew what they were called before. To tell you the truth, when I first saw the phrase “Taskbar corner overflow,” I pictured a bunch of app icons flowing out of the display like Niagara Falls. Turns out the corner icons are the icons in the right corner of the taskbar — the ones that show the time and date, your battery status, your volume level, and your Wi-Fi status, among other things. The overflow is the little pop-up menu that appears when you select the arrow to the left of those corner icons.

For the most part, the icons in the overflow window are meant to notify you when there is something that needs to be done — messages that have arrived or an update that is needed. This is also handy for apps, like Discord, that tend to run in the background; you can shut them down easily from the overflow by right-clicking on the icon and looking for the “quit” selection.

While most of the corner icons that come with Windows are permanent, some — specifically, the Pen menu, the Touch keyboard, and the Virtual touchpad — can be hidden. They can be found on the same taskbar settings menu that let us move the icons to the left; just click on “Taskbar corner overflow” and toggle off the ones you don’t want to see.

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

The overflow menu lets you handle apps that run in the background.

I recently rebranded my blog, changing the name to something I feel better describes the site’s mission. While the content remained the same, the only thing different was the name.

Once I bought my new domain name and transferred all the old posts to the new site, I went about updating my social media profiles.

Not a single social network gave me trouble with changing the username and title except Facebook!

Facebook lets you change the username of your page pretty easily.

However, to update your Facebook Page name, you have to go to the “About” section of your page, and then click “Edit” next to the name.

I did this thinking it wouldn’t be an issue, but much to my surprise, Facebook denied my Page name change request!

Apparently they felt it “misled” my page followers:

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

What?! It seems that because the name is drastically different from the old one, Facebook assumes I’m misleading people.

I thought this was super bizarre, but Facebook offers a way to “appeal” the decision so I started that process. I wrote a pretty basic explanation as to why I was requesting a name change, reiterating that the content of my blog was not changing, just the name itself. I thought any reasonable person who read this would approve it automatically!

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

After 3 days with no response to my appeal, I started Googling around and realized this is an all too common problem. Apparently Facebook allows name changes for pages with less than 100 likes, but for pages with more likes, changing the name becomes quite difficult. I read stories about people who showed how they bought a new domain name, but didn’t change the content of their site, were still denied in their appeal for a Facebook name change request! Totally nuts.

Thankfully, I came across a clever way to change my Facebook Page name after getting denied.

Essentially, if your Facebook name change has been denied, you need to go about changing it very slowly, little by little so Facebook thinks you’re only making minor adjustments each time, that wouldn’t throw off your followers.

The whole process was quite silly and took me about 2 weeks, but in the end, I’m happy I was able to successfully change my Facebook Page name.

How to Change Your Facebook Page Name After Getting Denied

    Here’s what I did:

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

I wanted to change my name from “Design by Digital” to “Blog Ambitious”

So I submitted a change request for “Design by Digital Blog”

The next day (Facebook makes you wait 1-2 days before changing your page name again), I requested “Design by Digital Blog Ambitious”

The next time, I requested a removal of a word: “by Digital Blog Ambitious”. I made these requests a few more times: “Digital Blog Ambitious” and finally “Blog Ambitious”.

Don’t cut corners by removing or adding more than ONE word at a time. Trust me, I tried it on the last step. It won’t work and will slow you down an extra day!

As you can see from my screenshot, I was requesting a new name every day if not every other day, depending on my schedule. It takes a bit of time for the approval to go through, and then for you to remember to submit a new request again.

I know it’s ridiculous but this is the only workaround where I’ve been able to change my Facebook page name successfully.

I hope you found this Facebook page name change trick useful!

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or macHow to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

Intro/Credit is more like a combination of titles and photo. Actually, you can add it anywhere on Video Track of Timeline. They help you create chapters and good-looking intro, credit and cast.

    1. Drag and drop an Intro/Credit template

Currently, Filmora provides more than 20+ opener and intro and 14 End Credits text templates. Similar to adding titles, you can simply drag and drop a template in Intro/Credit tab to Video Track on Timeline. If you drop it on an existing video/photo, the original video/photo will be split and the Intro/Credit will insert at the specified position.

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

    2. Change text and make settings

Now double click the text or photo to editing Intro/Credit. For the Intro/Credit titles, you can change text, font, color, animation, etc. For the photo, the built-in editing tools including Rotate, Crop, Brightness, Contrast, Saturation, Hue, and Motion.

On the Timeline, move text/photo and extend their duration as described above.

    3. Exporting Video with Titles

After finishing adding text to video, click EXPORT and you get five ways to output your video: Local, Device, YouTube, Vimeo and DVD. For device and format, all popular devices and formats are supported (If you can’t find the suitable device, you can try to save with suitable formats which can support your device). Besides, it’s convenient to directly upload a video with text to YouTube, or burn to DVD without third-party DVD burning tools required.

    Conclusion

It’s so easy to add titles and credit to your video. No matter you want to add some subtitles, 3rd titles, openers or end credits to the video, you can achieve it in Filmora easily by dragging and dropping. If you want to change the outline of a photo to make it a shape (like a circle or rounded rectangle), use the cropping tool on the ribbon .

You can crop to a shape in Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, or Excel.

Crop an image to a shape, such as a circle

You can quickly change the shape of a picture by cropping it to a specific shape. The picture is automatically trimmed to fill the geometry of the selected shape while maintaining its proportions.

(If you want to crop the same picture to more than one shape, make copies of the picture and crop each to the desired shape individually.)

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

Use Insert > Picture to add the image to an Office file (such as a Word document, PowerPoint presentation, or an Outlook email message).

    Click the picture.

You may crop multiple pictures at once, but you must crop them to the same shape. (But in Word, this is difficult, because you can’t multi-select pictures that have the default In Line with Text layout option.)

Click Picture Tools > Format, and in the Size group, click the arrow under Crop.

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

From the menu that appears, select Crop to Shape, and then click the shape you want to crop to.

The shape is immediately applied to the image.

Next, use Crop > Fit or Crop > Fill to change how much of the picture fits within the shape you’ve applied:

Fill Fills the entire shape with the picture. Some outer edges of the picture may be cropped away. There won’t be any empty space at the margins of the shape.

Fit Makes the entire picture fit within the shape while maintaining the picture’s original aspect ratio. There may may be empty space at the margins of the shape.

(Black crop handles appear on the edges and corners of the picture when you select the Fit or Fill option.)

You can adjust the position of the picture within the frame by selecting the picture and dragging it where you want. For example, this can help you center the most important part of the picture within the shape you’ve applied to the picture.

Crop the margins of the image by dragging a black crop handle as follows:

Drag inward on the side cropping handle

Crop two adjacent sides at the same time

Drag inward on the corner cropping handle

Crop equally on two parallel sides at once

Press and hold Ctrl while dragging inward on the side cropping handle

Click the Crop button again when you are done.

Start with a shape and add an image to it

You can add a picture as fill for a shape and then edit or crop the shape.

Add a picture to a shape

Add a shape to your document (see Add shapes for instructions) and click the shape to select it.

Click Drawing Tools > Format, and in the Shape Styles group, click Shape Fill > Picture.

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

Select the type of picture you want (such as From a File or Online Pictures) and then navigate to the picture you want and insert it.

    Resize the shape

To change the filled shape’s dimensions while maintaining its basic format, select it and drag any of the sizing handles.

Choose how the picture fits in the shape

If your picture is skewed, cut off, or doesn’t fill the shape the way you want, use the Fit and Fill tools on the Crop menu for fine tuning:

Click a shape created using Shape Fill > Picture.

Click Picture Tools > Format, and in the Size group, click the arrow under Crop. A menu appears showing cropping options.

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

Choose Fit if you want all of the picture to fit within the shape; the original picture aspect ratio will be maintained, but you may have empty space inside your shape.

Choose Fill to have the shape fit within the bounds of the picture, cropping away everything outside the shape.

    Click Fill or Fit.

Fill sets the picture size to match the shape’s height or width, whichever is greatest. This fills the shape with the picture while removing anything outside the shape’s perimeter.

Fit sets the picture size so that the picture’s height and width both match the shape’s boundaries. This fits as much of the picture into the shape as possible, but some areas of the shape might remain empty.

You can drag the picture to change what part shows within the shape.

If desired, adjust the crop area using the cropping handles as described under Crop a picture.

When you’re finished, press Esc or click anywhere outside the picture within the document.

Use edit points to edit or crop the shape

Although cropping tools are not available for shapes, you can use the Edit Points tool to edit a shape manually.

Select the shape that you want to edit.

Click Drawing Tools > Format, and in the Insert Shapes group, click the Edit Shape How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or macbutton, then click Edit Points.

Drag the shape’s vertex points (which appear as black dots around the shape’s perimeter) until the shape looks the way you want.

To delete a vertex point, hold Ctrl and click it. To add a vertex point, hold Ctrl while clicking anywhere on the perimeter of the shape that does not already have a vertex point.

How to tag all your audio files in the fastest possible way

How to tag all your audio files in the fastest possible way

Marco Fioretti shows you his method for tagging MP3 files with as much automation as possible so that you can impose a little order on music or other audio collections.

Last week, I promised that this time I’d introduce efficient ways to add ID3 tags to MP3 files. For me, adding such tags is an absolute necessity. If I really want my MP3 files to be and remain properly sorted and quickly usable even if I change software, I must guarantee that:

    • They are indexable through an open standard that many software tools can process automatically.
    • The corresponding data are written inside the files themselves, to follow them when the files move to another computer or operating system, and inside backups.

This said, let me make clear from the beginning that “the fastest possible way to tag MP3 files” can still involve a lot of manual work. Actual songs often are not a big deal, but MP3 audio can be anything. My own MP3 collection contains both songs directly ripped and fully tagged, in one round, from my own CDs, and other files from everywhere, all encoded without any tags. Most of those “non-song” files of mine are either:

    • Digitized analog recordings (you know what I mean: things like me singing “Merry Christmas” in kindergarten…), normally made by relatives and friends who have no clue of what tagging is, or…
    • Podcasts from “professional” radio stations, that were very unprofessionally published online without any tagging whatsoever.

Tagging songs with a graphic interface

Many music files are catalogued in several online databases. The most famous ones that are managed in an Open Source way and fully compatible with Linux are FreeDB and MusicBrainz. I have used Picard, the official MusicBrainz tagger, to tag semi-automatically the majority of my music files. The process, described in detail here, consists of these main steps:

    1. File Loading:
      • Launch Picard, select View | File Browser in the top menu.
      • Find in the Browser your music folder and drop it in the left Picard pane. Picard will put untagged files in its “Unmatched Files” folders and already tagged albums in its right pane
      • If there are files that Picard doesn’t recognize, you should probably remove them
    2. Clustering:
      • Click on “Cluster”, and Picard will rearrange the “Unmatched files” files likely to belong to the same album into album clusters.
    3. Automatic, metadata-based lookup:
      • Select unmatched files or albums and click on “Lookup”: Picard will use the (few) tags they mayHow to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac
already contain to fetch other data from MusicBrainz and put all the albums it recognizes in this way in the right pane
      • At least initially, do this only on a few files or albums at a time, to understand how Picard works
      • Inside those albums (See Figure A at right), tracks actually present on your drive are represented with coloured rectangles (red means bad match, green good or perfect match), the others with music notes.
    4. Automatic, “fingerprint” based lookup:
      • If you click on “Scan” after selecting some files, Picard will calculate their Acoustid “fingerprint” and compare them against those in the online database. If there’s a match, Picard will download all the tags for those songs (see Figure B below).
      • This option works on uncompressed audio, not MP3 files, so it is normally useful (only) when you first rip songs from a CD, where they are uncompressed but untagged.
    5. Manual tagging and reordering
      • At this point, check what Picard did automatically and:
      • Manually drag and drop in the right album files that you know, but are still unmatched.
      • Select all the files and albums that are properly tagged and “Save” (right-click menu): only at this point the ID3 tags will be written inside the files, making them ready for automatic reordering with Picard itself, my script, or other methods.

    Figure B

And now one shell way to tag MP3 files

The easiest way to prepare non-song MP3 files for proper tagging is to give them consistent and meaningful names. Once that precondition is verified, you can automatically use those names to write tags with a script like this:

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

Have you ever tried to create a new Windows user named “Administrator?” If so, you know that Windows prevents you from doing it, and the reason is that all modern versions of Windows automatically create a default built-in Administrator account, regardless of any other accounts you set up. You don’t normally see this account, as it’s disabled by default, but it’s the most powerful account on your Windows PC because it has what are called “elevated” privileges.
How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac
Elevated privileges mean that the built-in Administrator can do anything that your own user-created admin account can do, but it won’t be prompted by User Account Control (UAC) when making key changes to the system. It’s therefore recommended that you keep this built-in Administrator account disabled, but you can also take one small step to further increase your PC’s security: rename the built-in Administrator account.
Because all Windows PCs from the last decade have an account called “Administrator,” hackers and malware know exactly which account credentials to try during a security breach. But if you change the name of your built-in Administrator account, you can potentially foil a hack or hijack of your PC. Here’s how to change the name of the built-in Administrator account.
First, you need to launch the Local Group Policy Editor:

Windows 7: click on the Start Button and type gpedit.msc in the search box. Click on it in the results list or press Enter to launch it.

Windows 8: head to the Start Screen and type gpedit.msc. You’ll see the Windows search bar appear on the right side of the screen, with the Local Group Policy Editor listed as a result. Click on it or press Enter.

With the Local Group Policy Editor now open on the desktop, turn your attention to the nested list on the left side of the window and navigate to the following location: Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > Security Options.
How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac
In the list on the right side of the window, find Accounts: Rename administrator account listed near the top. Double-click it to open that policy setting. As we discussed earlier, the setting’s “Explain” tab reveals why you may want to change the built-in Administrator account name:

Renaming the well-known Administrator account makes it slightly more difficult for unauthorized persons to guess this privileged user name and password combination.

On the “Local Security Setting” tab, you’ll find a simple text box that says “Administrator” by default. This is where we’ll change the name of the built-in Administrator account. Pick any name you want, except for the name of any current or planned future user accounts (because, remember, you can’t have multiple Windows user accounts with the same name). Once you’ve made your selection and typed it in lieu of “Administrator,” click Apply and then OK to save your settings and close the window.
How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac
You can also now close the Local Group Policy Editor, as your built-in Administrator account name has been successfully changed, slightly increasing the security of your PC. Note that you can also change the name of the built-in Guest account using the Local Group Policy Editor, although the need to do so is a bit less than the Administrator account, as the Guest account has limited privileges.
How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac
You can verify the change in the Administrator account name by paying a visit to the Local Users and Groups Manager (run lusrmgr.msc in the Windows 7 Start Button search box or Windows 8 Start Screen search bar). There are several other ways to rename your built-in Administrator account, but this is generally the easiest method for users of all skill levels to follow.

I have a friend and I have added his real name in my Contacts. I want to put his nickname in Whatsapp simultaneously. I am using it in Android. How do I accomplish this?

    8 Answers 8

    You can follow these steps:

    1. Rename the contact in your phone book and save.
    2. Go to Settings > Account > whatsapp > sync now (or any similar option)
    3. Check if this has worked.
      • TIP you can force close whatsapp and try.

If the above method doesn’t work

    1. Backup contacts
    2. Go to edit contact of the one you wanna change.
    3. Copy the number of that contact.
    4. Delete the contact.
    5. Go to whatapp and refresh whatsapp contacts.
    6. Add the contact number you copied with the desired name you want as a “new contact” in your address book.

I am afraid to say this, but this looks highly unlikely.

The reason I am saying this is because I read following Lines in WhatsApp FAQ Page:

How do I add contacts to WhatsApp?

The important part is adding the contact into your phone’s address book.

And in the same FAQ Section, at point 3. below lines are mentioned.

Note: WhatsApp cannot sync with Facebook friends, so you will need to manually enter their phone numbers in your address book in order for WhatsApp to find them.

The BOLD Line above is perhaps an indication that the “source” for WhatsApp to get contact info is Phone’s “Address Book” and hence it won’t allow to have “nickname”.

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

Photo by Becca Farsace / The Verge

Have you ever wanted to make your iPhone your own, with your individualized style and flair? Sure, you can change your home screen wallpaper. But if you really want to personalize your phone, why not create your own app icons?

It’s doable, using Apple’s built-in Shortcuts app. You actually won’t be replacing the icons that the apps came with — rather, you’ll be creating separate shortcuts that lead to the app. It’s a tedious and time-consuming process, but in the end, you can have a fully customized iPhone home screen.

    Here’s how you do it:

    • Before you begin, it’s a good idea to find an icon for your new shortcut. There are a bunch of icon sources online (Flaticon, for example), or if you’re artistic and / or ambitious, you can create your own. Whether you use someone else’s or your own, save the image to Photos.
    • Okay, let’s begin. Find and tap on the Shortcuts app. It’s pre-installed; if you can’t see it immediately on your home screen, swipe left until you’re at the App Library and start typing “Shortcuts” into the top search bar.
    • Once you’re in the app, tap on the “plus” sign in the upper-right corner. Type the name of your new shortcut on top, and then tap on “Add Action”

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

Shortcuts can help you create new bookmarks for your apps.

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

After you select the plus sign to start a new shortcut, tap on Add Action.

    • There are a lot of interesting things to try out in Shortcuts. But right now, what we want to do is switch app icons. Type “Open app” in the search bar and then tap on the “Open App” link.
    • Tap on the word “App” that appears (rather faintly) next to the word “Open.” You’ll see a list of your apps; pick the one you want to customize.
    • Now, tap the blue symbol in the upper right corner. You’ll be taken back to your shortcut page.

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

Type “Open app” in the search bar.

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

Tap “App” to select which icon to replace.

    • Tap “Add to Home Screen.”
    • You’ll now see a preview of the icon (which will be a standard, uninteresting icon that Shortcuts automatically adds). Don’t worry — we’re going to make it better.

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

Name your shortcut and tap on “Add to Home Screen.”

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

    • Tap on the icon under “Home Screen Name and Icon.” You’ll have the choice of either taking a photo, choosing a photo, or choosing a file. Assuming you’ve already saved an image in Photo, tap on “Choose Photo” and select the photo you want to use.
    • If you’ve chosen an existing photo, a highlighted area will indicate what part of the photo will appear as an icon; you can move the photo around until you’re happy with the section indicated. Tap “Choose” in the lower-right corner.

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

You can create an icon from a new photo, a saved photo, or a file.

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

You’ll have to crop your photo to the right dimensions.

    • Now, you’ll see your new icon. If you haven’t added a name for your new shortcut, you can still do it here by typing the name next to the icon.
    • All ready? Tap Add in the upper right corner.
    • You should see your new customized icon on your home screen. Congrats!
    • There’s the possibility you may see two new icons on your home screen: one with the first boring icon and one with your wonderful new icon. If that’s the case, just press and hold the icon that you don’t want, and then select “Delete bookmark.” Remember, this (and the other you created) is a bookmark / shortcut — not the original.

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

Voila! Your new icon is ready.

How to edit a group description on facebook on a pc or mac

You can hide the original icon if you want.

    • You can also hide the original app icon so you’ll just have the new one visible. (You don’t want to delete it completely, of course; that would delete the app.)
    • Long-press on the original app icon and select “Edit Home Screen.”
    • Tap on the minus sign. On the pop-up menu, tap “Remove from Home Screen.” The original icon won’t be deleted, just hidden; you can always find it in the App Library.

One note: when you use your new icon to go to the app, you will occasionally get a small drop-down notice that tells you what the original app is called and to remind you of the fact that it is a shortcut. But the drop-down will only last for a second or two, so it shouldn’t be much of a bother.

Switching to another operating system or importing data sometimes means you can’t access your files and folders after the switch. This is result of the fact that your user account has lost ownership of those files and folders or it no longer has the required permissions. Also, accessing certain system protected files or folders involves sometimes modifying the permissions for those resources. When you cannot read or change files or folders from your disk, it means that either you need to take ownership of them or you need to change your user’s permissions. In this article you will learn how to change ownership of a file or folder and how to manage permissions for accessing and modifying files and folders.

NOTE:This guide applies to both Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.

How To View The Existing User Permissions For A File Or Folder

Before changing permission of files and folder, you should first learn how to view the current permission for a file or a folder.

First, choose a certain file or a folder and right click or press and hold on it. When the contextual menu will open, press Properties.

In Windows 8.1, in File Explorer, you can also use the ribbon. First, select the folder you are interested in, expand the Home tab on the ribbon and click or tap the Properties button found in the Open section.

A window with that file’s or folder’s properties will open. Go to the Security tab and you can view the permissions assigned to each user or group. For example, if you select the user “Madalina Blaga” you can view the list of permissions below.

Each user is assigned one or more of the following permissions:

    Full control – allows reading, writing, changing and deleting of the selected file or folder;

    Modify – allows reading, writing, changing but not deleting of the selected file or folder;

    List folder contents – enables viewing and listing of files and subfolders;

    Read – allows the user to see the contents of a folder and open files and subfolders;

    Write – enables you to create new files and folders and make changes to existing files and subfolders;

Special permission – contains a set of configurable actions that allow for configuring advanced permissions.

NOTE:To learn more about Special permission check out this article on File and Folder Permissions.

How To Change Permissions For A File Or Folder

Now, that you know how to view the existing permissions for a file or folder, you are ready to learn how to change them.

First, open the Properties window, as shown earlier and press the Edit button found in the Security tab.

You will now see a list with all the user groups and user accounts that exist on your computer, together with a list of permissions for each. If you can’t find a certain user account or user group in the list, press Add.

The Remove button allows you to delete a user account or a user group from the permissions list.

For this part of the guide let’s assume that you want to give permissions to a new user. Press Add to proceed.

The Select Users or Groups window opens. Type the user name or the user group that will be added in order to have permissions for the selected folder. For example, if you want to add the Administrators group, type “Administrators” in the “Enter the object names to select” field and then press the Check Names button.

We recommend, however, another method to select users or groups. Press the Advanced button to continue.

Here you have two fields where you can change selections. However, this is not required as the defaults are just fine and include all possible options.

The Select this object type field shows what kind of objects will be searched for. If you click on Object Types you will be able to select between user, group or built-in security principals. By default, all are selected, so there is no need to modify anything.

The From this location field shows where the objects will be searched for. By default, they will be searched on your computer. That’s why you won’t need to change anything here either. If you are part of a network domain, if you click or tap Locations you will be able to select other locations.

Since there is no change you need to make, press the Find Now button to display a list of all the users and groups. This will search and return all users and groups defined on your computer.

Select from the list the desired user account or user group and click or tap OK.

Press OK again to complete the action.

The new user has been added to the list. Select it and, in the Permission section, check the rights that you want to grant. Click or tap OK to complete the action.

How To Take Ownership Of A File Or Folder In Windows 8.1

If you want to change the owner of a file or folder, again, open the Properties window and press the Advanced button found in the Security tab.

The Advanced Security Settings window will open, where you can view the current owner of the selected file or folder.

In Windows 8.1, the owner is shown at the top of the window. Press Change to change the user account that is set as the owner.

Now, the Select User of Group window will open. Select a user as shown in the previous section and press OK to complete the action.

Now, the owner has changed. Lastly, check “Replace owner on subcontainers and objects” option and press OK to complete the action.

How To Take Ownership Of A File Or Folder In Windows 7

First, open the Properties window and press the Advanced button found in the Security tab.

After the Advanced Security Settings window opens, go to the Owner tab and you will see the current owner of the selected folder. Click the Edit button to change the owner.

Next, press Other users or groups.

Now, you need to select the user name or the user group that will take ownership of the selected file or folder. Add the desired user or group as shown in previous sections.

Then, the Owner window will open. Select the added user, check the “Replace owner on subcontainers and objects” option and press OK.

A confirmation message is displayed. Click OK and you are done.

Go back to the Advanced Security Settings window where you will notice the owner was changed. In our example, the new owner of the folder is the Guest user. Click OK one more time.

    Conclusion

As you can see from this guide, changing permission and ownership of the files is not that hard. The procedures shared in this article can be really helpful in situations when your files cannot be accessed.
