If you are trying to watch romantic comedies to get tips on how to get guys to like you, stop! These movies are based on exaggerated figments of imagination of writers who lock themselves out from the real world for days to write scripts. Another big no is to take tips from friends who themselves don’t have the first clue of what’s happening around them, but are eager to give advice cause it’s free. Now that we have established a little of what not to do, let’s look at some of the things that might help your cause.

There is no one single thing that you can do to get a guy fall for you, it has to be a combination of things. Guys can be a little complicated, or maybe the word is confused, when it comes to girls. On one hand, they want a really hot girl who would be the envy of his friends and on the other, guys want a girl who will share his likes for video games and Monday night football. So, if you want to know how to make a guy like you, you need to showcase that you have the ability to be a chameleon.

Appearances Matter

Would you like to write for us? Well, we’re looking for good writers who want to spread the word. Get in touch with us and we’ll talk.

When I say appearance it does not necessarily mean your anatomical features, it means the way you dress and the way you present yourself. There are several magazines and websites dedicated to fashion and style, pick up some tips on how to dress up and accessorize. An innate sense of style is the key to being popular in high school, so explore this option exhaustively. The visual cortex is one of the strongest sense that guys have, and you need to get them to focus on you. You won’t even have to think about how to get a guy to ask you out, if you present yourself well, he will ask you out.

Get Noticed

Remember asking around how to get a guy to like you in middle school, well, the tips haven’t changed much, you need to get noticed for a guy to like you. If he doesn’t see you, there is no question of him liking you. Take the same classes he does, get acquainted with his friends (Gal Pals), connect with him on ‘Facebook’ (any social networking site), etc. Nowadays, most dating tips consist of approaching guys on the web, so don’t miss out on this opportunity.

Similar Likes

The old adage ‘Birds of a feather flock together’ also stands true in the girl-boy context. To get a guy to like you, find out what he likes and then ‘Fake it to Make it’. To help you understand, if the guy you like loves playing video games like ‘Mass Effect 2,’ try and learn to play this and pretend to like it. Another thing guys will mostly like is a different genre of music than girls, so find out what he likes and probably give him a CD of his favorite songs, or engage him in a conversation about his favorite band. This is the simplest way to get a boyfriend in high school.

Understand Sports

There are different ways to make a guy like you and one of the simplest is to share his interest in sports. All you have to do for this is watch ‘SportsCenter’ on ESPN and see a few highlights and remember some numbers. Just mention the game and a player’s name and the guy will talk about the rest. This does not sound romantic but you are laying the foundation, so suck it up if you don’t find sports appealing.

Flirting Works

There are some subtle ways to flirt with guys, but don’t make it too obvious. 99 percent of guys suffer from the hero syndrome, they love helping out damsels in distress. One of the best flirting tips is to ask a guy for help, it can either be with homework, asking a reference for a good mechanic, suggestions for a good movie, in short help with anything under the sky.

Be bold and approach him. Some guys are shy and will hesitate to make the first move even if they like the girl. Another tip is to smile at him and let him know that you are interested and approachable.

Signs to Know if he Likes You

Would you like to write for us? Well, we’re looking for good writers who want to spread the word. Get in touch with us and we’ll talk.

As you’ll grow up and meet more and more people, you’ll find that reading certain behavior traits becomes easier, especially in the case of a crush. But in the meantime, let’s help you get that pounding heart rate down and breathe normally again. Here are some signs that will clear it all out for you. You can even take this how to tell if a guy likes you quiz to know more in this direction.

The Eyes, The Eyes, and a Smile

The eyes say it all. Have you ever noticed? If you haven’t, it’s time you start. Observe him the next time over. Do his eyes make you feel comfortable and welcome or are they glazed over with indifference? The former sign screams ‘I like you’. Then notice the smile. When he smiles after he sees you, even from all the way across the room, do his eyes light up and the smile travels all the way over to his eyes? Great sign. Then notice for something that almost always confirms that he likes you―freaky as it is, every time you look in his direction, there he is looking right back at you. When you like someone, you just want them to be near you at all times. I don’t think that changes with age either and is one of the sure signs he likes you.

In the Body Language…

Such untapped potential here. You learn how to read his body language and you are set. We think we are so sleek with hiding our feelings and not letting anybody know, right? But the point is that you don’t have to ‘say’ anything, your body language―the way you speak, behave and act―will make it clear to whoever is in doubt. What to look for in his body language? When you guys are together, check for these signs―he always faces you when you speak, he leans into you when talking and unconsciously blocks anyone else in your company. All these signs scream that he likes you. Other signs? There will be harmless touching and flirting. He’ll touch your arms or guide you through a crowded room with his hand on the small of your back. These are signs that you need to start picking up on.

I’m Here, I’m There, I’m Everywhere!

Lately it seems like he’s everywhere you go. You end up running into him at the common hall, in class, in sports practice, even your cooking class(!) When someone likes you, they need to be in your periphery of vision all the time so that you are constantly reminded of them. That is what he’s doing. He’ll also try and spend as much time in your company as possible. Signing up for the same classes as you, asking you for a cup of coffee in the cafeteria, and such and such signs will start making way.

Friends and Girlfriends

When in high school, he’s still finding his way with the whole ‘How to tell her’, ‘How to get her to like me back’ and similar things like that. So he’ll do whatever it is, whatever is in his means to get you to know that he likes you. He’ll want to get to know you better as well. So there will probably be the befriending your friends to ask more about you or one of his guy friends coming over to ask you about stuff. Don’t be surprised if you find that his friends suddenly get all chatty and loud when you’re passing by or there’s a lot of his name being mentioned. That’s just to get you to think about him. One of the surest signs a guy like you in high school? This is definitely one of them.

More than Words

And now for the way in which he speaks to you. Here’s what he’ll do―he’ll hang on to every word you say, even if no one else in the group is listening to you. He’ll also try to include you in the group conversations and ask for your opinions in matters that are being discussed. One other sure sign of how to know if a guy likes you in high school? His phone calls will increase. The conversation will center around getting to know you and he’ll ask you a lot of questions about yourself for the same. He’ll ask for your opinion on things, which is a clear indication that he respects you and what you think matters to him.

There. Has that helped you a little at least? Now you won’t be clueless and can start looking for these positive signs and signals that a guy gives out. May the eternal conundrum, ‘Does he – Doesn’t he’ get quelled fast enough and may whatever you want, happen soon. Here’s to high school romances.

Number 6 is everything.

How to get a boy to like you in high school

A lot of gay teens want to be in relationships and it is common for them to ask the question: “How can I get a boyfriend?”

For example, a gay teen from Louisiana says:

“I’m bi but I’m really not interested in dating girls right now. I just had three heartbreaking relationships in a row. I really want a boyfriend. No bi / gay guys around here. I’m 16 and live in South Louisiana. I’m ok with long distance and I’m really really attracted to goth and emo guys.”

For another teen, the problem has been holding different expectations than the guys he is meeting.

“I’m so sick and tired of meeting guys online who don’t want a relationship. I want a boyfriend so much right now. I don’t know what I have to do. The internet seems to be the only avenue to find other gay people.”

These are just a few examples of guys looking for boyfriends taken from the many, many teens who have written into the LGBT site about wanting a relationship.

So what can these guys and others who want a boyfriend do about it? As you probably know, there is no “one-size-fits-all” formula for finding a boyfriend. But there are some tips that can help the relationship-minded teen get his guy.

Come Out

If you are not out, then it is going to be a lot harder to meet guys who are gay. Plus, being out shows a certain level of confidence and confidence is really attractive to a lot of people.

Go for Guys Who Are Out

First of all, when your crush is openly gay, you at least know that he could be interested in you. Second, if you do get together, you won’t have to worry about hiding your relationship.

Go for a Guy Who Might Like You Back

Sometimes teens have huge crushes on people who are just never going to be a real possibility. Your homophobic classmate, straight crush, or the guy with a serious boyfriend are not really who you should be setting your sights on if what you truly want is a boyfriend.

Put Yourself Out There

Start a gay/straight alliance. Or join a soccer team or the film club. Just do something so that you are forced to meet more people than the ones you already know.

Don’t Rush It

Most people spend some time dating and getting to know a potential partner before they decide to move into boyfriend mode.

Now you might do all of this and still not have a boyfriend right away. Please don’t beat yourself or get too gloomy if that happens. A lot of teens of all sexual orientations want relationships and for some kids, it just happens sooner than it does for others.

Dear Rachel, All of my friends seem to be “hooking up” or dating guys. I always seem to get passed over. Â I’m so self conscious, I always think its because of my looks. But my. Dear Rachel,

All of my friends seem to be “hooking up” or dating guys. I always seem to get passed over. Â I’m so self conscious, I always think its because of my looks. But my girl and guy friends tell me I’m a pretty girl. I always get the “You’re just not that kind of girl, you’re nice” and it really makes me angry because just because I’m a nice girl doesn’t mean I don’t want to date anyone. I’m not joining a convent! I’ve had a guy friend tell me “You’re the marry type, not the date-in-high-school type.” How can I change this image without ruining my reputation by doing something extreme? Thanks for your time! I love your advice!

–Sick of Being Nice

I so know how you feel. When I was your age, I always watched my friends hook up, date, get asked to dance by hot guys, get flirted with, while I just sat around feeling like a loser. I was good at making people laugh, and I could always be counted on to do something a little crazy, but that was where my sex appeal seemed to hit a dead end. I felt exactly like you do now.

But here’s what I know now, years later. There was nothing wrong with me at all–and there’s nothing wrong with you. The problem is. high school. And I don’t have a cure for high school. It’s a warped situation where a very narrow class of people gets attention and privileges. The criteria for being in this class are based on qualities like being heterosexual, rich, Barbie-pretty and super friendly (at least on the surface). You have to be born with most of these qualities; you can’t buy or easily develop them. And if you don’t have them, you might not get attention from guys; many, many others get degraded, harassed and bullied for not fitting the bill. The whole system is a nightmare.

So what can you do to change your image without doing something extreme? Well, I guess you could start showing more skin and turn up the flirting. You could be more forward with guys. But is that you? Is that what you want? As soon as you try to be someone you’re not, you lose a lot of the spark and overall amazingness that is you. Is it worth it to betray yourself, and your values, in order to fit some narrow, ridiculous definition of what’s sexy?

And can I just say? Being hot in high school is not remotely an indicator of later relationship success. In fact, it can mean quite the opposite. Think of it like this: high school is a very specific ecosystem where certain creatures survive over others – kind of like whatever’s running around inside that big glass tank in the science teacher’s room. But the rest of life–reality–is another atmosphere entirely. The lizard that lives well in the glass tank has a pretty different life once it has to walk the halls with the rest of the world.

My advice: the sexiest thing in the world is being yourself.
