The popular video-sharing app TikTok is great for all kinds of things. You can spend literal hours scrolling through and being entertained by pranks, dances, and challenges. You can also make your own videos (and if they’re popular enough, you can make some money too). And, of course, you can communicate directly with people you know — either in real life or just through the app.
Unless you’re blocked, that is. If someone blocks you on TikTok, you won’t be able to communicate with them. But how can you tell whether you’ve been blocked by another TikTok user? Here’s what you need to know about TikTok’s blocking feature.
Here’s how to know if someone blocked you on TikTok.
There are three ways you can tell whether someone has blocked your account on TikTok. The first is to check the accounts you follow and see if they appear on the list. In order to do this, tap the profile icon on your home page (it’s the button in the bottom right-hand side of your screen that looks like the outline of person) and tap where it says “Following.”
You can either type in the name of the account you suspect has blocked you, or scroll through the list to find them. If their account doesn’t appear on your Following list, then they may have blocked you. They might also have simply deleted their account, though.
The second way to find out whether you’ve been blocked is to try to view a comment or mention you’ve left on one of their videos. To do this, tap the notifications icon (the speech bubble) on your home page, then scroll to a comment or mention you have made on their video. If you try to tap on the video and are unable to access it, that’s another red flag. You might have been blocked.
Finally, you can simply try searching for the person’s account via the Discover tab (the magnifying glass icon). If you type in their account name and their account doesn’t show up, that’s red flag No. 3 — but do double-check to make sure you’re spelling the name correctly! If you do find their account, tap the “Follow” button. If you’ve been blocked, you’ll get an error message saying, “You can not follow this account due to user privacy settings.”
Can you get unblocked on TikTok?
Unfortunately, there’s not much you can do in order to get unblocked on TikTok. While this may be a bummer if you think you’ve been blocked by accident, it also makes sense and certainly comes in handy for instances where people are blocked for harassing users or simply being unpleasant to them.
TikTok allows all it’s users to block other users for any personal reason. Inappropriate content, spam, annoying content etc are some of the reasons why a user may block another user. When you are blocked by another user on TikTok, you do not get any notification nor do you get any indicator informing you about the same.
The only way to know if someone has blocked you on TikTok is by trying to search for their user ID and seeing if it appears. Therefore, the following article explains how you can know if someone blocked you on TikTok.
Steps to know if someone blocked you on TikTok
1. Launch TikTok: The first step in order to know if someone blocked you is to launch the TikTok application. From your app drawer locate the TikTok icon. As shown below, It is a white color music note icon. Tap on it once to open it. It will automatically open in the Feed section of your account.
2. Go to the Search section: Launching the TikTok application will result in its opening in the feed section. You have to then go to the search section of the application. In order to do this, you have to select the small magnifying glass icon as shown below. This will take you to the explore page of TikTok within which you can search for users.
3. Tap on the Search bar: As a result of opening the explore page of TikTok you will get the following screen in which you will notice a small bar at the top. Tap on the search bar as shown in the picture after which your keypad will be launched.
4. Type the user ID/Username in the search bar: Tapping on the search bar will automatically launch the keypad. The next step is to type the User ID of the user you want to check. To know if someone has blocked you on TikTok you have to know their full username as it has to match. If not, you may not get accurate results. Type out the exact TikTok user ID of the person and search for it.
5. Check if the username appears: From the results that appear, check if the username that you entered appears. If the screen is blank as shown below, then you can conclude that the particular user has blocked you.
Therefore in this way, any user can come to know if someone has blocked them on TikTok. You have to know the exact user ID of the person that you want to search for. If the user does not appear in the search results, you can conclude that he/she has blocked you. This is because once you are blocked by someone, you can not interact with their account in any way.
Wondering If You’ve Been Blocked on Social Media? Here Are the Signs
A social media block can feel like a slap in the face, and sometimes that’s exactly what it’s intended to feel like. Other times, it may just be a standard post-breakup move. Maybe someone doesn’t like reading your opposing political views on their posts. Or maybe they just decided to clean up their friends list and you didn’t make the cut because you haven’t interacted in years.
If you suspect that someone has banished you on social media, whatever the reason may be, there isn’t always a direct way to confirm your suspicions. Before you work yourself up into a frenzy, you want to make certain that you are in fact blocked (and even then, maybe it’s not exactly frenzy-worthy). One possible explanation may just be that the user disabled or deleted their account from that social media platform. In order to figure out the deal put on your Sherlock Holmes hat and start doing some digging into whether you were actually the victim of a social media block.
We will walk you through some expert advice on the simple ways you can tell if you are blocked on most social media platforms, and then dive into specific steps for each of the major applications.
Keep in mind that being blocked is not the same as being muted, snoozed, or unfollowed by someone. Being blocked means you no longer have any access to their profiles, or any means to contact that person through the application – including posts, messages, friend lists, or calls.
Common Ways to Tell if you are Blocked
Sharon van Donkelaar, CMO at Expandi.io, a SaaS for LinkedIn marketing based in the Netherlands, offered the following common approaches to determine if you have been blocked:
- You can’t find the person in a profile search: If you have noticed someone’s activity has dropped from your feed, try searching for their profile. If you are unable to locate them through a search, it’s likely one of two scenarios: they blocked you or they deactivated their account.
- You can’t send direct messages anymore: You will not be able to send direct messages to anyone who has blocked you, including trying to communicate from a previous conversation on the app. “It will be greyed out or replaced with a message indicating the profile is no longer in use or has changed,” van Donkelaar says. “In this case, you can be 100% guaranteed that they have blocked you.”
Application-Specific Steps to Tell if You are Blocked
There are four ways you can tell if someone blocked you on Instagram, according to Hasnain Khokhawala, a Social Media expert at Technographx.
- Search for the person: From your main page, click on the magnifying glass in the bottom navigation. Search using the user name or account name. If you can’t find it, then you are blocked, or their account is deactivated.
- View profile: If you can locate the user’s profile through someone else’s page, click on their profile. Once on their page, you will not be able to see posts, only the number of posts from the person and their followers. If you try to follow the person again but are unable to, Instagram is letting you know that you’ve been blocked.
- Send a direct message: From your main page, click on the paper airplane in the top right corner. Try to send a direct message to a person. If you get an error back, you’ve been blocked, or their account is no longer active.
If you have been blocked by someone on Facebook, you will not be able to find them in any search, tag or invite them to a group, or send them a message, Khokhawala says. There are a couple ways to search for someone on Facebook:
- From your home feed while in the app, click the magnifying glass in the top right corner and then search for the person. If you can see the person in the People section but they are no longer in your friend’s list, you were probably just unfollowed. If you can’t find the person at all, you’ve been blocked, or they deleted their account.
- If you have a mutual friend with the person you suspect has blocked you, go to that friend’s Facebook page. Then, in the Friends list, click on See All Friends. From there, you can search for the person and if it turns up no results, you can further confirm the dreaded block. Before you get crazy and start stalking the person on other social media, you can always ask the mutual friend if the alleged blocker is still using Facebook. You don’t want to assume you have been blocked – it could just be that the user deleted their account.
If you are blocked on Facebook, you will also be blocked on Facebook Messenger. You can tell if the block is just from Messenger or all of Facebook by following the steps below and then repeating the steps above.
- Open the Facebook Messenger app.
- Use the Search button at the top to find the person or scroll through your chats to find a previous conversation.
- Send the person a message.
- If you get a message back that says “Message not sent: This person isn’t receiving messages at this time,” you’ve been blocked.
You will not receive a notification if you have been blocked on Twitter, but there is an obvious way to figure it out, Khokhawala says.
- Use the magnifying glass in the bottom navigation to open a search.
- Find the person or business and go to their Twitter profile.
- If you have been blocked, there will be a message that states: “You have been blocked from following @(Twitter Handle)’s and viewing @(Twitter Handle)’s Tweets.” You will not see any of their tweets.
If someone blocks you on TikTok, it might just mean they respect you too much for you to see them lip sync or dance like a fool. To find out if you are blocked, follow these steps:
- Open the app.
- Click the discover button to search for someone using their exact user name.
- Go to the Users tab.
- If they don’t show up, you have been blocked or their account is disabled.
If you do manage to find an account that you think may have blocked you, there are two other ways to confirm your hunch:
- The profile shows no content other than a message that says: “You cannot view the video based on this user’s privacy settings.”
- You try to follow the person but get an error that says: “You can’t follow this account due to this user’s privacy settings.”
LinkedIn Support offers a litany of actions that will occur if you have been blocked on the network (click HERE for the list). To determine if you have been blocked, log into LinkedIn and check the following areas. If the answer is no to any of these questions, you have been blocked.
- Can you find the person’s profile?
- Can you message the person?
- Can you see any shared content with the person?
- If you had endorsements or recommendations from the person, are they still there?
The reasons for a block on LinkedIn tend to be related to a professional or career advancement rather than a personal issue, so you shouldn’t take this one too hard.
The block feature on TikTok makes it easier to control the content you see — but how do you tell if somebody blocked you?

Blocking people on TikTok is one of the simplest ways to control the content that does and doesn’t pop up on your For You Page — but how can you tell if someone else has blocked you on the app?
Blocking and unblocking people on TikTok is a simple process, but sometimes you may be left wondering whether someone else has blocked you.
Here’s how to tell if you’ve been blocked by another account on TikTok.
How to tell if you’ve been blocked on TikTok
Although there isn’t necessarily a surefire to know 100% if you’ve been blocked, there are several steps you can take that will give you a good indication.
- Following list — If you follow the person you suspect has blocked you, then head to your ‘Following’ list on your profile page and look for that user’s account. If the account doesn’t appear, and you haven’t intentionally unfollowed them, then this could be a sign that they’ve blocked you. However, users do also have the option to simply ‘Remove this follower’ from their account.
- Messages and comments — Go to your notifications and tap on a comment or mention you left on another person’s video. If you are unable to view the video, this could be a sign that you’ve been blocked.
- Try to follow them — Type the account’s name in the search bar on the ‘Discover’ page, and go to that user’s profile page. If the bio and its videos are hidden, this is an indication you might have been blocked. When you try to click ‘Follow,’ if you get a message saying ‘you can’t follow this account,’ this is another sign.
It is up to the user to decide whether to unblock you, but these steps should make it easier to identify if you have actually been blocked.

“Can TikTok ban your account from commenting or posting anything? My TikTok account was running till yesterday and now it says that the account has been suspended!”
If you have a similar question about TikTok account suspension or restrictions, then you have come to the right place. Just like every other major social media platform, TikTok also has to be vigilant about what is posted on it. If the content that you have posted violates its community guidelines, then it can get blocked and even your account could be suspended. Let’s get into some details and understand how can TikTok ban your account.
- Part 1: Important TikTok Community Guideline you should know
- Part 2: What Kind of Content is Banned on TikTok?
- Part 3: How to Get Back the Banned Content on TikTok?
Part 1: Important TikTok Community Guideline you should know
TikTok has come up with strict community guidelines that you can access from the app or by visiting its website. For instance, if you go to its website, you can visit the menu from the sidebar and access the Community Guidelines page.
The goal of these guidelines is to make sure that all TikTok users would feel safe on the social platform. For instance, if you have posted something that is offensive to someone or has racial slurs, then chances are that your content would be taken down. If your content has been taken down repeatedly and you have been reported several times, then it can lead to the permanent suspension of your account.
Therefore, if you want to know how can TikTok ban you from posting or commenting, then consider reading the community guidelines once.
Part 2: What Kind of Content is Banned on TikTok?
TikTok will keep on screening the content that is posted on the app and if it violates its community guidelines, then it is taken off. If you are wondering how can TikTok ban you for no reason, then chances are that your content might have fallen into these categories.
Needless to say, if you have posted about the promotion of any illegal activity or how it is done, then TikTok will take the post down. For instance, if you are telling your audience how to harm someone or kidnap, then it will violate the community guidelines.
Sale of Weapon or Drugs
Can TikTok ban you for selling drugs, weapons, or anything illegal? Absolutely yes! Not only will your account get banned under these scenarios, but the local authorities might also be informed by the moderators.
Scamming or Running Frauds
This might surprise you, but a lot of people run phishing and Ponzi schemes on social media channels. If your account is promoting any scam as well, then it would get suspended permanently.
Violent and Explicit Content
If the content that you have posted on TikTok is extremely violent and graphical (related to humans or animals), then it will be taken down immediately.
Promoting Terrorism and Crime
Just like other criminal activities, promoting hate crime, terrorism, human trafficking, blackmailing, extortion, etc. is also not allowed on TikTok and can even lead to legal actions by the local authorities.
If you have posted any adult content on TikTok related to nudity or pornography, then your account would be suspended immediately. TikTok is a family-friendly app and any sexual content is strictly not allowed.
TikTok also has dedicated guidelines that protect minors from exploitation. If your content has sexualized a minor or is related to child abuse, then it will be deleted and reported.
If TikTok observes that you are harassing anyone or bullying others, then you will get reported. If you are wondering can TikTok ban you from commenting, then you could have commented something inappropriate on a post that was identified as cyber-bullying.
Self Harm and Suicide
TikTok takes any post related to the promotion of self-harm or suicide extremely serious. Anything that promotes a dangerous act related to self-harm will be blocked. The only exception is content related to recovery and anti-suicide sentiment.
A TikTok post that promotes hate against any religion, country, individual, or a group would be taken down. TikTok does not allow any racial slurs or the promotion of hateful ideology on the app as well.
Lastly, if you are trying to impersonate someone else, spamming someone, or spreading misleading information, then you would get blocked and your posts will be deleted.
Part 3: How to Get Back the Banned Content on TikTok?
I’m sure that by now you would know how can TikTok ban your account. Though, if you wish to retrieve the deleted content that you have posted earlier, then you can try the following tricks.
Tip 1: Get it back from the Drafts
After we record a video on TikTok (or perform its editing), it asks us to post or save it in Drafts. In case your video was earlier saved in Drafts, then you can visit your Account > Drafts and download your video from here.
Tip 2: View your Phone’s Gallery
TikTok has a native feature that lets us save our posts on the local device storage. To check this, you can go to TikTok Settings > Posts and enable the option to save posts on the device’s gallery/album. In this case, you can go to the local gallery of your device to check if the video is already saved or not (in the TikTok folder).
Tip 3: Save it from the Liked Videos
If you have liked your video earlier, then you can check it from the “Liked” section on your profile. Even though the video can’t be viewed, you can go to its more options and choose to save the video on your phone’s storage.
There you go! I’m sure that after reading this post, you would be able to know how can TikTok ban your account or restrict you from posting/commenting anything. To clarify things, I have also listed the kind of content that is not allowed on TikTok. Also, if your posts are deleted by mistake, then you can try either of the listed suggestions to retrieve your content.
TikTok is an online platform where you can have loads of fun while expressing your creativity. That is why getting banned from this network feels lousy—even more so if you feel like you haven’t done anything wrong.
If you think TikTok may have wronged you by suspending your account, we are here to help you. In this guide, you will find out why TikTok might have banned your account, what its community guidelines are, and how to write a demand letter to appeal its decision.
If you are worried about writing the demand letter correctly, do not stress about it. Sign up for DoNotPay and learn how to do it in a couple of clicks.
What Are the Reasons for Getting Banned From Tik Tok?
The reasons for having your TikTok account banned are numerous, and they are usually related to a violation of TikTok community guidelines. The most common reasons for TikTok account bans are:
- Illegal activities
- Hateful behavior
- Violent extremism
- Graphic content
- Dangerous acts, self-harm, and suicide
- Harassment and bullying of other users
- Exploitation of minors
- Nudity and sexually inappropriate behavior
- Integrity and authenticity violations
TikTok doesn’t allow the promotion of illegal activities, such as:
Discrimination of any sort will result in TikTok account suspension. This app will not allow content that attacks or threatens other individuals or groups based on:
- Immigration status
- National origin
- Sexual orientation
- Gender identity
- Serious disease
TikTok also bans profiles with slurs, promotion of hateful ideology, and conspiracy theories that justify them.
Any type of violence and promotion of dangerous groups or individuals will result in a TikTok account suspension. To avoid this, your profile should not:
- Encourage other people to commit violence
- Depict or support dangerous individuals or terrorist and criminal organizations
TikTok will not allow any type of content that includes:
- Depiction of violent deaths, accidents, injuries, physical violence, or torture
- Depiction of unnatural death of animals, animal cruelty, and gore
Dangerous Acts, Self-Harm, and Suicide
Acts of self-harm or other dangerous acts are prohibited on TikTok, and the users are not allowed to post, share, upload, or stream:
- Suicide glorification, games or dares that lead to suicide, or suicide instructions
- Eating disorders, games, dares, and glorification of self-harm and eating disorders, as well as instructions on how to engage in such activities
- Usage of dangerous tools, objects, or vehicles
- Dangerous games or stunts
Harassment and Bullying of Others
Harassment and bullying on TikTok also come with serious consequences. TikTok doesn’t tolerate:
- Degrading statements, humiliations, embarrassment, or intimidation of an individual
- Sexual harassment
- Doxxing, threats of hacking, and blackmail
Exploitation of Minors
The exploitation of minors is a pretty serious issue and a sensitive subject, and it should be prevented in any way possible. TikTok does that by prohibiting:
- Sexual exploitation of minors in any form
- Grooming behavior—Flattering the minor, requesting contact off and on the platform, asking for personal information, and making sexual solicitations or comments
- Harmful activities involving minors—Possession of alcohol, tobacco, or drugs, as well as encouraging dangerous physical challenges
- Kidnaping, physical abuse, and neglect of minors
Nudity and Sexually Inappropriate Content
Whether it involves adults or minors, sexually inappropriate content and nudity go directly against the TikTok regulations. That includes abuse, sexual imagery, explicit language, and graphic depictions of sexual acts.
Integrity and Authenticity Violation
The most common reason for getting banned from TikTok is probably a violation of authenticity and integrity, such as:
What To Do if You Get Banned From TikTok
If you are looking for a way to unban your account, you can always file an appeal to reverse the original decision. In case your violation was a one-time incident, there is a good chance you will get your account back.
If you violate community guidelines repetitively, TikTok will ban your account and notify you about it. If you believe TikTok made a mistake and the ban was unjustified, here is what you can do:
- Find and open the notification
- Click on Appeal
- Follow further instructions TikTok provided
Use DoNotPay and File an Appeal to TikTok Without Breaking a Sweat!
Once you initiate the appealing process, you will probably have to write a demand letter to request that TikTok reverse its decision. If you’ve never done that before, DoNotPay is here to help!

As of Jan 2022, TikTok has brought back the option to see who viewed your profile.
The option is called “profile view history” where you can see who viewed your profile in the last 30 days.
TikTok used to have this feature back in 2020 where you’ll receive notifications on who visited your profile.
They later removed it due to privacy concerns.
With the new “profile view history”, users get to opt-in or opt-out of it.
This gives users more control over their privacy.
That said, popular social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram do not show who viewed your profile.
Currently, TikTok is the only platform that does this.
In this guide, you’ll learn how to see who viewed your TikTok profile and if people can tell that you’ve seen their TikTok profile.
- Can you see who viewed your TikTok profile?
- How to see who viewed your TikTok profile
- Can people tell that I’ve seen their TikTok profile?
Can you see who viewed your TikTok profile?
As of early 2022, you can see who viewed your TikTok profile if you turned on the “profile view history” option.
The option allows you to see who viewed your TikTok profile in the last 30 days.
If you turn it on, others will be able to see that you’ve viewed their profile as well.
However, if you turn it off, others will not be able to see that you’ve viewed their profile.
The “profile view history” option was introduced in early 2022.
If you don’t have it, it’s most likely because it’s not rolled out to you yet.
You can try updating TikTok on the App Store or Google Play Store to see if you have it.
That said, not everyone has the feature because TikTok is still testing it.
How to see who viewed your TikTok profile
To see who viewed your TikTok profile, you need to turn on the “profile view history” option.
After you’ve turned it on, you’ll be able to see who viewed your profile in the last 30 days.
Other people who’ve turned on the “profile view history” option will also be able to see that you’ve viewed their profile.
The option is similar to “Last Seen” on WhatsApp.
To see when another person is last online, both you and the person need to have “Last Seen” set to “Everyone”.
If one of you set your “Last Seen” to “Nobody”, you won’t be able to see when was each other online.
You can turn off the “profile view history” option at any time.
Here’s how to see who viewed your TikTok profile.
1. Tap on the eye icon
The first step is to open TikTok and log in to your account if you haven’t already.
After you’ve opened TikTok, you need to navigate to your profile.
Tap on the profile icon on the bottom navigation bar to do so.
Once you’re on your TikTok profile, you’ll see an eye icon.
Tap on the eye icon at the top of your profile.
If you don’t see it, it means that the “profile view history” option is not rolled out to you yet.
If that’s the case, you need to either update the TikTok app or wait until it’s released to you.
2. Turn on your profile view history
After you’ve tapped on the eye icon, you’ll land on the “Profile views” page.
The page contains information about the “profile view history” option.
Here is what the “profile view history” option does:
- Others can see that you viewed their profiles in the past 30 days.
- Only you can see who viewed your profile.
- Only viewers who turned on their profile view history and viewed your profile in the past 30 days will be shown.
- You can turn this off at any time.
As mentioned on the page, others will only be able to see that you viewed their TikTok profile if you’ve turned on your profile view history.
If you have it disabled, they won’t be able to see that you viewed their TikTok profile.
Tap on “Turn on” to turn on your profile views history.
3. See who viewed your TikTok profile
After you’ve turned on your profile view history, you’ll land on the “Profile views” page.
Now, you’ll see a list of people who viewed your profile in the past 30 days.
Keep in mind that only you can see who viewed your TikTok profile.
In addition, only people who’ve turned on their profile views history will be shown on the page.
You’ve successfully learned how to see who viewed your TikTok profile!
If you don’t want to let others know that you’ve viewed their profile, you can turn off your profile view history at any time.
To do so, navigate to your profile, tap on the eye icon, tap on the gear icon, and tap on the switch.
Can people tell that I’ve seen their TikTok profile?
People can only tell that you’ve seen their TikTok profile if you and the person enabled the “profile views history” option.
The “profile views history” option allows you to see who viewed your TikTok profile in the last 30 days.
However, you and the person needs to turn the option on.
Let’s say that you and the person enabled the “profile views history” option.
If so, both of you will be able to see who viewed their TikTok profile.
In other words, if you viewed the person’s TikTok profile, they’ll know of it.
However, if you or the person didn’t enable the “profile views history” option, the person will not be able to see that you’ve viewed their profile.
The option is similar to “Last Seen” on WhatsApp where both you and the person need to set it to “Everyone”.
If you and the person set the “Last Seen” option to “Everyone”, both of you will be able to see when each other was last online on WhatsApp.
The “profile views history” option on TikTok has the same logic.
The “profile views history” option is introduced in early 2022.
If you have it, you’ll see an eye icon on your profile.

TikTok’s biggest perk: it can make you a popular influencer rather quickly. TikTok’s biggest flaw: you can lose your account in no time.
Until Fall 2020, TikTok didn’t even bother to explain the reasons why it blocked accounts.
In this post, we’ll tell you what actions you should take if your TikTok video or account has been blocked and whether it is possible to restore them at all.
When another TikTok user blocks you.
This is the case when one TikTok user blocks you so that you cannot watch their videos, text in DM, and leave comments under their content. No other restrictions are imposed on such accounts; the ‘blocked’ user can upload videos on the platform and communicate with other TikTok users.
To block someone else’s account (for example, because of spam or insulting content), you need to go to this user’s profile, click on the 3 dots in the upper right corner and select Block. Afterwards, you won’t see their videos in your feed.
When TikTok blocks you.
TikTok can ban your page for violations of community rules. It can be temporarily for minor violations or permanently for a more serious violation. Just a single video or your entire account may be blocked.
If you’ve been unlucky enough to have your account blocked, then you have these options to lift the restriction.
If the block is temporary, you just have to wait.
The temporary block lasts on average two weeks, but it can be lifted sooner or later – it depends on the severity of the violation. Try to analyse your TikTok content and realise why your account has been blocked. It will help you avoid such restrictions in future, even if you make a new account after the blocked one.
If the ban is permanent, appeal.
With a permanent ban, try filing an appeal form if you think you were blocked by mistake. However, if the violation is serious (for example, spam or a nudity video), it is nearly impossible to get the account back. Most likely, the support team will not get back to you with an answer. So it only remains to create a new account and never repeat the same mistake again.
Do not upload old videos to your new account – they will simply block the second profile, and for repeated violations, you’ll even have your IP or device blocked.
There are two ways to do so.
If you’re not authorized, open TikTok. Click on the burger menu in the upper right corner and find the Support section, Report a Problem. Then – Account and Profile.
There you’ll find the Login tab. Open it and find Suspended account.
Click on the No button where you’re asked if the problem has been resolved.
Click on Need more help? and write which account has been blocked and explain why you think that this has happened by mistake. You can also share an email address for feedback. Then press Submit and wait for the response.
If you’re authorized, go to your account settings (burger menu). Go down to the Support section, click on the Report a problem item and find Account and Profile.
Next, click Login. In an additional menu that opens, click Suspended account. Further actions are the same as described above.
If there is no answer from support for more than two months, it makes sense to create a new account.
It’s always easier to prevent something than to deal with consequences if the damage is already done.
Remember the major violations for which you can get a ban on your TikTok account are:
Minor safety violations
Dangerous acts and self-harm
Harassment, bullying and hate speech
If you want to back up your TikTok videos, you can save your entire account in one go with 4K Tokkit. Follow the steps below to start the download.
1. Launch 4K Tokkit. It’s available for macOS, Windows and Linux.
2. Enter the name of your TikTok account.
3. Select the suitable option from the search results.
4. Click the Download button.
That’s it! In a few minutes, your TikTok avatar and all videos you’ve posted will be downloaded to the computer for good.
Regardless of how big or small of a following you have on TikTok, no one, and I mean no one, wants to be shadow-banned. The term “shadow ban” has popped up frequently in relation to TikTok and other social media apps, with most users using it to refer to when a platform seemingly begins to show a creator’s content to fewer users and their content abruptly stops performing well.
It can be tough to prove that you’re the victim of a shadow ban since popular apps typically deny that shadow bans exist. However, there’s some evidence that these platforms do indeed control what content is and isn’t shown to its users. For example, in September 2020, a report by the Australian Strategic Policy Institute found that TikTok was censoring some LGBTQ+ hashtags in certain countries, such as Russia, Bosnia, and Jordan. In a statement to Pink News at the time, the app confirmed that it “partially restricted” terms (like “gay” in Russian and Arabic and “transgender” in Arabic) “due to relevant local laws,” adding that “other terms were restricted because they were primarily used when looking for pornographic content.” TikTok denied that this was censorship, but many media outlets defined it as shadow-banning. Black creators have also spoken out about TikTok allegedly censoring their content, with one user in July 2021 pointing out a glitch in the Creator Marketplace algorithm that forbade the use of the word “Black” while allowing terms like “pro white” and “neo Nazi.” (TikTok later apologized and said it was working to fix the “significant error.”)
The number of people who claim to experience shadow-banning is large and growing, with people of color and LGBTQ+ people appearing to be hit hardest. And according to those who say they’ve experienced it, a shadow ban can be tricky to shake off. Keep reading to learn more about shadow-banning and how to get un-shadow-banned if you believe it has happened to you.
What Is Shadow-Banning?
In earlier internet days, shadow-banning described a more targeted approach in which moderators made harmful users’ posts invisible to everyone but the users themselves (think: bots, spammers, trolls, etc.). Modern-day use of the term “shadow ban” can still carry the implication that it’s targeted, though that doesn’t always appear to be the case. Now, shadow-banning more generally refers to any of the ways a platform might hide or limit the visibility of someone’s content.
As a result, a shadow-banned user may stop receiving as many likes, comments, and views on their posts. Users across apps like TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube have reported suspicions about their accounts being shadow-banned when they experience a sudden, prolonged drop in engagement.
How Do You Get Shadow-Banned on TikTok?
Since apps don’t even confirm shadow-banning exists, we don’t know why users get shadow-banned — and if it is happening, it’s likely that there isn’t just one reason for it. One possible explanation has to do with the fact apps like TikTok try to limit spammers. So if you’re acting like one by liking a lot of posts in a day or following a lot of accounts in succession, you could find that TikTok might silently stop showing your videos to others on their For You pages.
Another potential reason for shadow-banning? Repeatedly going against TikTok’s community guidelines with content containing hate speech, nudity, drugs, fake news, violence, or any other inappropriate behavior the app doesn’t condone — you can find a full list on TikTok’s site.
It’s worth noting, too, that some content might not be overtly banned (i.e. reported or taken off the platform) but may be removed from the For You page. That feed “is intended for a general audience that includes everyone from our teenage users to great grandparents,” TikTok’s site explains. “We consider the breadth of our audience when we determine what content is eligible for algorithmic promotion on the platform.” This might include videos that TikTok judges to be potentially harmful to minors, content showing “dangerous sports or stunts,” or “overtly sexualized content.” (For reference, the TikTok algorithm runs on a combination of “machine learning and actual user behavior,” according to The New York Times, which reviewed an internal document explaining how the app’s recommendation system works. The app gives each video a score based on likes, comments, and how long users spend watching the video, and “returns to users videos with the highest scores,” the document states.)
How Do I Know If I’ve Been Shadow-Banned?
If, out of nowhere, you see a drastic drop in engagement on your content, it’s possible you’ve been shadow-banned in some way. If this happens, you may find your videos might not show up on aggregated feeds (like TikTok’s For You page) as often, or you can’t find them when you search for them using a hashtag. However, there are other possible reasons for seeing a dip in engagement, like posting at a slow time on the app, experiencing a drop in followers, or posting new or different content than your followers are used to. The best way to tell if you’re experiencing a shadow ban is by switching to a TikTok Pro account and monitoring your engagement using the provided analytics. The data section will be able to tell you if your engagement has increased or decreased over time, as well as help you better understand the time of day you should post and what type of content does best.
How Do I Get Un-Shadow-Banned on TikTok?
Users have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app to get around the shadow ban, as well as deleting any content that goes against an app’s community guidelines. The consensus, however, appears to be that it’s best to wait out the shadow ban and let it lift on its own. You may also want to try giving your account a break from posting any new content for a few days and starting back fresh.

Did you recently receive the “You’re following too fast” or the “Couldn’t follow account” error on TikTok when you try to follow new people?
There are many users encountering this issue and it can be quite frustrating.
You might want to follow new people, but you can’t because TikTok is preventing you from doing so.
In this article, you’ll learn how to fix the error and prevent it from ever happening again.
What is the “You’re following too fast” error on TikTok?
So what is the “You’re following too fast error”?
The “You’re following too fast” error means that you’ve exceeded the following limit of TikTok.
In other words, you’re temporarily unable to follow new people.
On May 13, 2021, the following feature on TikTok was down, which resulted in the “Couldn’t follow account” error when you try to follow someone.
If TikTok is down, your best bet is to wait it out until they fix the error on their end.
To know whether TikTok is down, you can check the graph on downdetector.com/status/tiktok.
If there’s a spike on the graph, the app is most likely down.
How do I fix the “You’re following too fast” error on TikTok?
Now, how do I fix this error on TikTok?
To fix the “You’re following too fast” error on TikTok, you’ll have to wait it out. The error message typically lasts for a few minutes or more depending on the number of times you received the error.
If you can’t follow anyone on TikTok, it’s because you’ve exceeded the following limit.
There’s nothing much you can do about it except waiting for the error message to be lifted.
How long does the “You’re following too fast” block last?
The answer — it depends.
The “You’re following too fast” block lasts for a few minutes, several minutes, or more depending on the number of times you exceeded the follow limit.
For instance, if you start to follow a bunch of users immediately after the error message is gone, then you’ll be blocked from following again.
In addition, the duration of the block will be longer.
After the error message is gone, and you’re no longer blocked from following, you shouldn’t start following a bunch of people again.
This will increase the duration of the block the next time it happens.
Is there a follow limit on TikTok?
Is there a follow limit on TikTok?
There is no specific follow limit on TikTok.
However, it’s highly recommended that you follow no more than 30 users per hour.
The only way you can find the actual follow limit on TikTok for your account is to test it on your own.
Here’s how you can test it out for yourself:
- Follow as many users as possible until you receive the “You’re following too fast” error.
- After every minute, try following others again until the error message is lifted.
- Repeat the process and count the duration of the block each time.
If you have some free time on your hands, you can try the above steps to find out the follow limit for your account.
Why did I get the error?
You got the “You’re following too fast” error because you’ve exceeded the following limit.
Like every other social media platform, TikTok is trying to reduce spam, bots, and automation on their app.
Hence, if you follow people too fast, TikTok will think that you’re a bot and temporarily block you from following.
The most common reason why you got the error is because you’re doing the follow/unfollow strategy.
The follow/unfollow strategy is basically following a list of people and hope that they will follow you back.
If you want to use the follow/unfollow strategy, make sure to not abuse it and don’t exceed the following limit.
Otherwise, you’ll be blocked from following which will hinder your progress.
How do I prevent the error?
There are a few things you can do to prevent the error from ever happening again.
Follow these tips and you will never be blocked from following others in the future.
1. Follow others in an interval.
The next time you’re following others, make sure to do so in an interval.
An example of an interval is following one person every 2 minutes.
Following others in an interval will prevent you from getting blocked because you’re not abusing the action.
2. Stop following more than 30 users in an hour
To avoid getting blocked from following, you should try not to follow more than 30 users per hour.
TikTok’s following limit is 30 users per hour.
That’s the general guideline that you should follow.
3. Don’t use automation
Using automation is a quick way you can get blocked from following.
This is because TikTok’s algorithm can detect that you’re using automation and block you.
Automation is also against TikTok’s Community Guidelines and your account might get suspended from using one.
Why does TikTok say you’re tapping too fast?
Another common error message you might get on TikTok is the “You’re tapping too fast” error.
If you get this error message, you’re liking a large number of videos too quickly without actually watching them.
Many people are guilty of this especially if you’re swiping through videos from your following feed.
TikTok will think that you’re a bot because you’re not acting like a human by swiping and liking videos without actually watching them.
To fix this error, you’ll have to wait it out.
If you get the “You’re following too fast” error, you need to stop repetitively following others.
Instead, slow down and follow others in intervals.
Additionally, you should try not to exceed the following limit on TikTok which is somewhere around 30 users per hour.
Do this and you’ll never be blocked from following others again.

Learn how to get the bullies and creeps to back off in this super-popular app.
TikTok isn’t the first short-video creation tool (Dubsmash and the now-defunct Vine came before). But its perfect blend of popular songs, fun editing features, and viral challenges have made it one of the most downloaded apps in the world. Tweens and teens use it mainly to express their creativity, get goofy, connect with friends, and follow celebrities.
But the platform can be a little edgy — especially in the comments, which are open to all registered users identified only by screen names. Those registered users include adults, and the anonymity of screen names combined with the envelope-pushing nature of some of the content can lead to age-inappropriate comments. In fact, the comments can be downright gross. If your kids are going to use TikTok, discuss how to handle online bullying, and empower them to stop harassment by blocking or reporting users who bother them in any way. If they’re targeted, you may need to escalate the issue to your kid’s school, the harasser’s parents, or — if threats are involved — law enforcement. Also, remind your kids to stand up for others when they witness bullying.
Here’s how to block and report cyberbullies on TikTok. And if you’re worried about the other person knowing you’ve blocked or reported them, TikTok doesn’t send a notification. After you’ve blocked them, they won’t see you in their Following list anymore, and if they tap on any old tags or comments on your videos, they won’t be able to see those videos anymore.
To report or block a person, video, comment, or chat
Report a person:
- Go to their profile.
- Tap on the three dots.
- Tap Report or Block.
- Tap on the right-facing arrow on the video page under the heart and comment icons.
- Tap Report.
Report a comment:
- Tap and hold the comment.
- Tap Report.
Report inappropriate chat message:
- Open the conversation.
- Tap on the three dots.
- Tap on Report.

Fame can be a very fickle thing. It’s not unusual for people to suddenly be launched into stardom, enjoy their 15 minutes of fame, and then eventually go back to a life of relative obscurity. However, some people claim that TikTok is artificially limiting their popularity, and needless to say, they’re not happy about it.
The issue at the center of these complaints is shadowbanning. Some TikTok users think that they are being shadowbanned on TikTok, meaning their content is suddenly not showing up in their followers’ feeds. These days, when social media clout can translate to actual money, that’s a huge problem. Do you think this may have happened to you? Here’s how to get unshadowbanned on TikTok.
Here’s how to tell if you’ve been shadowbanned on TikTok.
Shadowbanning is also known as ghost banning or stealth banning. It’s the practice of blocking a user or their content without alerting them of the ban. Shadowbanning happens all over the internet but the controversial practice can be difficult to prove. If your TikTok videos typically got 10,000 views and suddenly started getting fewer than 1,000, it could mean that your newest videos aren’t as good as your old ones, that you’ve lost followers, or that you’re not posting at the optimal time.
But it could also be due to a shadowban from TikTok. If you are shadowbanned on TikTok, your videos will not show up on the For You Page, nor will they appear when you search for them via hashtag. But don’t worry — it’s probably only temporary.
How To Know If Someone Unadded Or Deleted You On Snapchat!
If someone deletes you onLine, they will not show up in your Line contacts list and you won’t be able to send them messages. If someone unfriends you on Facebook, you can still see their profile and message them.
The line is a messaging app, and when you delete someone on Line, the person no longer has access to your profile or your conversations. This means that they can’t send you messages or see what you’re doing on the app.
There are many reasons why someone might block you on Line 2020. It could be for any number of reasons, but if you want to know for sure, then ask them.
If you report someone on the LINE app, LINE will take appropriate measures to protect the victim’s safety. This can include blocking the person from contacting them or even deleting their account.
If you have LINE installed on your phone, there are a few different ways to know if someone is online. You can look at the top of the screen and see who’s online now, or you can go into your chat list and find the person you want to talk to. If you’re not sure if they’re online, you can send them a message and if they reply, then they will show up as “online” in the chat list.
LINE is a messaging app, not a platform. LINE is a social media app for instant messaging. It allows users to send messages to each other in a text-based format or through video and voice calls. With LINE, you can also add your friends to the app and create private chatrooms with them. As seen from the last sentence of this paragraph, there are several functions of LINE that can be used by users of LINE.
Some people may think that the “empty chat” means that there is no one on LINE. But in reality, it means that the person who sent the message was not able to send it. This can be due to a variety of reasons such as:
1) The person’s phone is out of battery and they are unable to send messages.
2) The person’s internet connection has been lost and they are unable to send messages.
If you are unable to contact the person who blocked you, there is no way to know for sure. The only way to find out is by asking them.
If you are blocked, you will not be able to see the person’s profile or any of their posts. You may still be able to see a person’s comments on your own posts.
You can tell if you are blocked by someone on Facebook by going to their profile and clicking on the “Friends” tab. If you see a list of names and they’re all gray and you’re not on that list, then you know that they have blocked you.
Yes, you can be banned from the line. If you’re banned from the line, it means that you are not allowed to use the app anymore. This can happen if you violate the Terms of Service or if you’re reported as a bad user by other people.
We live in a world where technology constantly surprises us with the launch of programs or applications that help in the development of the human being. Today, it is possible to get everything we can think of on the internet.

Once this is done, the user in question is immediately blocked and the content of their profile disappears. That is, the platform will record your preferences so as not to show more content from that person in the feed.
How to block notifications on Tik Tok?
Without a doubt, Tik Tok is an application with excellent functionality and performance, which has several options similar to those of other apps. But in the same way, it allows activating or deactivating many of these options.
Normally we are used to receiving different notifications in the wide range of App. However, this can be a somewhat annoying action for many users. For this reason, tiktok, with the intention of offering a good service with which you feel comfortable, allows the blocking of notifications from its platform.
Steps to block notifications on Tik Tok
You must perform the following procedure:
- Open the Tik Tok app
- Check the Me option, which appears on the home screen
- Press the three dots, located in the upper right corner
- Select the Push notifications option
- Next, you must uncheck the interactions for which you do not want to receive notifications.
In case you want to deactivate all Tik Tok notifications, you can do it from the device settings. You must perform the following procedure:
- Enter the Settings of your Android device
- Tap on App and notifications
- Go to Notifications
- Find the Tik Tok app
- Finally, turn off their notifications.

TikTok has hundreds of millions of users, with more joining every day. If you’re trying to grow a TikTok fanbase, don’t you want to know which of those users are visiting your profile?
How to tell who’s viewed your TikTok profile
There used to be no way to tell when someone looked at your TikTok profile. But a new feature changes that.
The Profile View History feature creates a list of the users who’ve visited your profile in the last 30 days. The catch is that it only lists users who also have Profile View History turned on.
This means that when you turn the feature on, it’ll make you visible on other users’ history lists. It’s a two-way-street — if you get to see who’s viewing your profile, other users get to see you too.
Here’s how to turn it on.
1. Open TikTok and head to your profile page by tapping it in the bottom-right corner.
2. Tap the eye icon in the top-right, then select Turn on.
Quick tip: If you don’t see this icon, tap the three lines in the top-right, then Settings and privacy. Tap Privacy, then scroll down and tap Profile views. If you don’t see this option either, make sure your TikTok app is updated.
3. You’ll be given a list of everyone that’s looked at your profile in the last 30 days. From this page, you can tap their usernames to view their profiles, or just tap Follow.
If you ever want to turn this feature off, open this list again and then tap the gear icon in the top-right.

Notice your favorite social media stars making desperate pleas to followers to like/share/comment on their posts? It could be because they’re shadow banned.
On Instagram and Twitter, shadow banning tends to be a kind of taboo subject. Users often don’t even know they’re shadow banned, and if they suspect it, they probably won’t be that vocal about it.
On TikTok, however, criticizing the shadow ban feature is open season.
Straight TikTok, alt TikTok, WitchTok, prison TikTok — every subculture has fallen victim to shadow banning at one point or another. Except for cottagecore TikTok, they might be immune.
And popular creators on the app make no secret of their sudden drop in engagement when they’re hit with a shadow ban, often poking fun at it in their comment sections or in the captions of their posts. TikTok even faced public criticism in June from Black creators who claimed their #BlackLivesMatter posts were being shadow banned on the app, a claim which the app apologized for but denied.
But this debate raised some interesting questions. How much censorship are we subjected to on our social media apps, and who decides what gets censored?
What is shadow banning?
Shadow banning, stealth banning, or ghost banning is the act of blocking a social media user’s content without the user knowing.
The specific effects of shadow banning look different across different social media platform,s but the outcome is uniform: a sudden and unexplained drop in engagement that impedes a user’s likes, comments, follower count, or views.
Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook have repeatedly denied the existence of a shadow ban on their platforms, but users and experts say otherwise. Perhaps they are not outright banning specific posts, content, or hashtags, but they are undoubtedly restricting our access to them.
If your favorite creator is shadow banned, you can still see their posts when you search their profiles or on your following feed, but there’s little chance their content is making it to an Explore Page or For You Page, which severely impacts their ability to attract new followers.
In some cases, particularly on TikTok, shadow banned content will be outright deleted from a profile with no explanation.
What causes shadow banning?
Social media platforms do this in the name of the algorithm.
Who would want to see this shadow banned content anyway, right? From their perspective, it makes sense.
Shadow banning allows social media platforms to filter out any content that doesn’t comply with their code of conduct without outright banning users. It could also be used to limit the content that teeters on the edge of a breach of regulations but isn’t completely prohibited.
Shadow banning also restricts behavior that comes across as spam, such as filling your posts with countless hashtags and liking or following hundreds of accounts in quick succession.
All of this allows for genuine users to have access to helpful content and prevents somewhat controversial content from appearing in your recommended posts without you choosing to follow.
In practice, this process can be more of an act to suppress users than an attempt to protect them.
Instagram has blocked some content labeled #SexualHealth, but does not restrict items tagged #KillBlackPeople. Meanwhile, TikTok administrators have previously admitted that they restricted several LGBTQ+ hashtags on the app, including “gay,” “lesbian” and “transgender.”
An internal document unearthed from the company by The Intercept also confirmed that TikTok once, “instructed moderators to suppress posts created by users deemed too ugly, poor, or disabled for the platform.”
This damning evidence exposes how shadow banning can perpetuate the oppression of minority groups. Without disclosing the specifics of how or why people get shadow banned, social media platforms can easily shift and bend the rules to deem whatever content they choose to be worthy of shadow banning.

One of the most controversial and confusing topics when it comes to TikTok is whether or not swearing is permitted.
While you occasionally hear videos using swear or cuss words quite explicitly, you also often see people censoring themselves – using words like f*ck or frog instead of, well… you know.
This causes many people to wonder whether or not swearing on TikTok is actually allowed, or whether it’s something that can you banned.
In this article, we’ll cover everything that you need to know.
Table of Contents
Is Swearing Allowed In TikTok Videos?
TikTok’s stance on swearing within videos is open to interpretation.
Swearing is not officially banned on TikTok – it will not result in a community guidelines violation, nor will it cause your video to get taken down. The only exception to this is the use of racial slurs, or any other terms that are targeted against specific groups of people.
For example, attacks targeting the LBGTQ community may warrant a takedown of the video, plus further action. While these takedowns can be appealed, they are unlikely to be reinstated as hate speech is taken very seriously on TikTok.
So if swearing or cussing is allowed, why do so many people self-censor? Why do TikTok creators go out of their way to avoid using any swear words?
It comes down to suppression.
While TikTok may not outright delete videos that contain swear words, it’s believed that these videos may be heavily suppressed, not showing up as frequently on people’s For You pages. Some people even believe that single instances of swearing can cause temporary shadowbans that also affect future videos, even if the future videos do not contain any swear words themselves.
When removing swear words, you should ensure that they are not heard audibly in the video, appear anywhere in the video, or are used in any text or stickers that appear on the screen.
The fact that we have to go out of our way to avoid swearing is a little bit frustrating, particularly if we are trying to maximize our viewership. However, TikTok is an incredibly large platform, serving videos to people of all ages as well as those located all throughout the world. Therefore, TikTok is liable to ensure that the content that their algorithm shows is appropriate for all users.
The takeaway is this – swearing in your TikTok videos will not get you banned or even get the video removed. However, it may result in the video being suppressed, which will ensure its shown to less people as a result.
What About Video Captions?
Next, you may be wondering about video captions. Can you swear inside TikTok captions? Should you?
The answer to this is largely the same as the answer above. Just like in videos, uncensored swearing won’t result in account or video deletion. However, it may lead to less people seeing your video on the For You and Following pages.
Therefore, it is best avoided if possible.
In fact, suppression may be more likely when using cuss words in TikTok captions or descriptions, because it is trivial for TikTok to pick up on them.
While their algorithm to determine what words are being said via audio is not perfect, it is simple to tell whether or not a TikTok description has a swear word in it or not.
Therefore, you may be penalized for it more frequently.
Note that TikTok is able to recognize alternative spellings of swear words, such as f*ck or a$$. However, it is unknown whether or not they also treat these the same. Anecdotal experience says that using emojis like 🍑, 💩, 🍆, 🐸, or 🎂 in place of alternate spellings is usually a safer bet.
Can You Swear In TikTok Comments?
Lastly, let’s look at comments.
TikTok comments are a bit different – after all, video creators can’t fully control what types of comments people leave on their videos.
While they can obviously delete comments they don’t like or even implement a filter that hides comments containing certain words (more on that later), ultimately once you release a video people can comment almost anything.
When you think about this, it would be really unfair to be penalized for something that another user wrote. So, it doesn’t seem that swear words left in comments seem to affect your video at all.
But can you get in trouble if you’re the one commenting?
Thankfully, the answer seems to be no here as well.
Therefore, you can comfortably swear inside the TikTok’s comment section if you’d like.
How To Automatically Block Comments Containing Certain Words
If you’d like, TikTok has a feature for video creators that allows you to automatically hide comments that contain certain words.
For example, if you put swear words into this filter, any comment containing a swear word would be automatically hidden from everyone.
To enable this, you have to open up your TikTok settings. This can be done by going to your Profile, then clicking the three lines in the top-right corner.
From there, click on ‘Privacy’, then ‘Comments’. It will pull up a page that looks similar to the screenshot above.
Turn on the ‘Filter keywords’ section, and you can then input the words you’d like to block.
If a comment contains that word, the entire comment will be hidden – not just the banned word!
What Words Are Banned?
Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like there’s any list of banned words that’s completely known.
It is likely that TikTok has continued to add new words over time, as more slang terms have come out and began to increase in popularity.
So if you’re looking for a banned words list on TikTok, unfortunately there isn’t one.
However, you can assume that all swear words, as well as words or phrases that may be considered hate speech against any group of people are banned.
Additionally, words related to violence, drugs, or weaponry may also lead to video suppression.
How To Block Explicit Content
Did you know that TikTok has a feature built-in, that will let you block content deemed explicit?
This is a great option if you want to ensure your children aren’t exposed to explicit material, as well as if you simply want to clean up your feed a little bit.
While TikTok bans hardcore explicit videos (like nudity or extreme violence), Restricted Mode lets you take it one step further.
To enable Restricted Mode, follow these steps:
- Open the TikTok app.
- Visit your profile page.
- Access your settings by clicking the button with 3 bars, which can be found in the top-right corner.
- Scroll down to ‘Digital Wellbeing’ under the ‘Content & Activity’ section.
- Tap on ‘Restricted Mode’
- Tap on ‘Turn on Restricted Mode’
- Enter a 4-digit passcode and click on the arrow.
Restricted Mode will be immediately enabled! Follow these same steps in order to turn it back off again.
Parents should set a passcode that will not be easily guessed by their child.
Although TikTok does not ban all swearing, the use of swear words can limit the reach a video receives.
Additionally, swear words that target specific groups may cause video takedowns, or even account suspensions.
Therefore, the use of foul language is best avoided when possible.

People think of TikTok as an “anything goes” platform, but that’s far from true. There are some very mild words that will get you in trouble if used. You may be surprised by just how innocent some of them are.
Censorship has been a concern on TikTok for years, but it’s not just about politics and minority groups. Certain words are banned from comments and private messages. Other words aren’t officially banned, but using them will greatly reduce how many people will see your video.
The result of these banned words has resulted in a new language of sorts. Creators say things like “seggs” and use emojis (🍆🐱) in place of words. It’s a very interesting side effect of some heavy-handed moderation. Let’s take a look at some of these words people can’t use.
It’s no mystery that cigarettes are bad for you. There’s a reason why they have a surgeon general’s warning on the box. Nonetheless, plenty of people still smoke—it’s a part of their daily life. Yet, TikTok does not like it if you say the name of these perfectly legal cylinders.
It’s amazing what changing one letter of a word can do. “Thick” is a word that refers to the, well, thickness of something. “Thicc” means something else, which has resulted in the completely innocent “thick” being banned along with it. You can’t even use it in private conversations.
Here’s where things start getting really crazy. You can’t say the word “dead.” This is a word you’ll hear on Sesame Street, yet it’s not allowed on TikTok. Is it a fun word? No, but it’s also not an inappropriate or vulgar word either.
Here’s another innocent word that has been dragged down into the gutter. Yes, some people use “hole” to describe certain parts of the body, but it also has much, much wider use. Should a word be banned because of how it’s used in unintended contexts?
Anatomical Terms for Reproductive Organs
The last one we’ll touch on encompasses a few different words. Rather, these are scientific and medically accepted terms for reproductive organs. The interesting thing about these words being banned is their slang counterparts are not.
There are plenty of euphemisms that are allowed, but some of the widely accepted terms that you would even teach young children to use are not. Then there’s the case of “Dick,” which obviously has a certain meaning, but is also just a common nickname for “Richard.”
These are just a few of the more surprising things you can’t say on TikTok, but there are plenty of other words and phrases that are also banned. Some terms aren’t outright banned—such as common swear words—but you may get a violation warning or have the audience of your video restricted.
Of course, there are some things that should be banned—like hate speech—and they are as well. A little moderation is necessary and good. When your censoring is more extreme than basic TV, things may have gone too far.

Just a few days ago we were talking here about the many rules that are part of the TikTok community and all the reasons why your posts could be deleted from the platform or your account could end up being suspended. Now let’s go one step further: what if your profile has already been closed by the social network? How do you recover?
TikTok account suspended
The music and viral video platform has, as we already told you, a long list of rules that must be complied with in order to maintain a healthy and respectful environment within the social network. Nowadays it is very easy to incur many kinds of offenses through the screen of our phone and thanks to the “anonymity” and the false protection and feeling of power that we feel when publishing through a profile on an online platform. To control it, each service establishes rules that, as far as possible, they try to apply, so that in any case “outside the norm” they act quickly and under the protection of written “laws”.
The problem is that we don’t always read them – in fact, we almost never do. This can cause a fault to be committed sometimes without being aware of it, although, as the phrase ignorantia juris non excusat says well. There is also a rarer case: your account has been suspended and you are fully sure that you have done nothing wrong. Sometimes this happens temporarily due to the action of the TikTok antispam system , which automatically disables profiles that for example contain the logo of the social network, use the expression “free” or similar in their profile or publish a large number of likes and comments in a short period of time.
If you believe that the platform has suspended your account unfairly and by mistake, you should know that there is a way to defend yourself, requesting the recovery of your account. And that is just what we are going to teach you to do today.
How to request the return of an account
If your account has been suspended on TikTok but you are convinced that you have not done anything to make this happen, there is a procedure by which the user can directly contact the service to present their case and try to recover it. For this you have to write an email to antispam (at) tiktok.com and comment on your case, writing down the following information:
- Your TikTok username
- Explain what has happened: when your account was suspended, why you think it was an error and any other relevant information about your profile that you think is necessary to justify your defense
- It is worth mentioning that you have never violated any rule (if so, of course) and that you have a “clean” record
The good thing is that a human team (no automatic systems) is in charge of reviewing these cases, checking the requests and proceeding to immediate manual unlocking in case of verifying that the information is correct and the suspension should not have been carried out, so If you are right, you should have no more trouble recovering your account and continuing to enjoy the social network.
TikTok is easily one of the best apps around for those who want to get social via video shares. So the fact that it’s also easily one of the most popular should come as no surprise. What some users may find surprising, however, is how TikTok bans its users and why. Including shadowbanning. But what, exactly, is shadowbanning and how can you avoid getting banned on TikTok?
Well, that’s exactly what this guide is here to discuss. And we’ll also go over what you should do if you do get banned or shadowbanned on TikTok. So, if you’re new to the platform or just looking to build your account up without issues, read on.
What is Shadowbanning on TikTok and how does getting banned impact users?
Now, getting banned — on TikTok or any other service — is fairly straightforward, and learning how to avoid it is too, but shadowbanning may be a new term for many so it’s important to first understand what it is.
Summarily, a shadowban is not at all like a typical permanent or temporary ban. Rather than denying access to service, a shadowban is more subtle. And most platforms don’t shadowban users in any noticeable way. There’s no official outline for how TikTok does it, either but shadowbanning works almost exactly as you’d expect without being banned outright. Namely, what it does is reduce your visibility.
You won’t be told you’ve been shadowbanned either. Instead, you’ll likely just notice that your videos aren’t garnering as much traffic. That’s in terms of views, shares, and likes. And that boils down to the fact that your videos won’t show up as recommendations. So users won’t see them on the TikTok apps’ “For You” segment. Or, at the very least, they won’t be appearing as often as they may have before.
What makes all of this difficult is the fact that a shadowban is easily missed. The results of a shadowban are not dissimilar to a natural loss of audience and traffic. So it’s easy to mistakenly think your videos are just not making the cut anymore, compared to other content creators’ videos. As opposed to losing out because of a shadowban.
But, of course, if you think you’ve been shadowbanned, there are some things you can do to try and circumvent or overcome it, too. And that’s precisely what this guide looks to help with.
Here’s how you can avoid getting banned
Now, TikTok doesn’t outright call its temporary visibility reductions “shadowbanning” but what it does can still impact users as though they’ve been banned. At the very least, for those who are making a livelihood creating content. The company has stated some ways users might see this happen to them, however.
According to TikTok, “spam, videos under review, or videos that could be considered upsetting or depict things that may be shocking to a general audience” can result in “reduced visibility.”
The company, of course, lays out its terms fairly clearly otherwise. And, for violations of its terms, it issues temporary bans, account penalties, and permanent bans. And, of course, it may also choose to restrict accounts so that they can only watch, rather than create content.
More obvious violations include depictions of self-harm and eating disorders. With a particular focus on normalizing or glorifying those. It also includes content that contains nudity. Hoaxes, games, dares, pacts, and similar content related to those things are also expressly prohibited. So those things will result in an outright ban or other restrictions, in most cases.
Shadowbans aren’t explicitly addressed but it’s fairly safe to say that the above-mentioned spam is included in content that will get users banned in that way. As will content that other users are flagging, when it upsets them. But since there are a lot of gray areas left there, the best way to avoid a shadowban is going to be to avoid posting content that could be construed as violating those terms. Even if it doesn’t violate TikTok’s more explicit terms.
…and some ways to potentially bypass or avoid a shadowban on TikTok
Now, if you do find your content is suddenly not getting as much engagement — or if your followers point out that they don’t see your content in their feed as often anymore — there are some ways to potentially remove the shadowban. At the very least, there are a few methods to bypass it, according to TikTok users.
- The most obvious solution is to remove any recent videos that may have violated terms or that users may have flagged
- You may also want to try uninstalling and re-installing TikTok itself. That will install any app updates you may be missing and that could potentially be the reason you’re not seeing as much engagement
- Re-upload the content that you uploaded most recently — if it doesn’t violate TikTok’s terms. That will garner extra engagement for the same content without having to create new content
- Switch to a “Pro” account to analyze your video content via the built-in “Analytics” tool. The tool provides metrics that can help you see which videos are getting engagement and where they aren’t. That way, you can focus on content that people are still seeing and avoid content that your audience doesn’t want
- Finally, while there is a trend toward following every user you engage with, in a bid to gain new followers, TikTok views that as spam-like behavior. So if you’re going to follow every user you engage with, take your time instead of trying to “follow” everybody all at once
What to do if you’re permanently banned on TikTok?
If TikTok does outright ban your account, there are several reasons it may do so. And you’ll definitely know about it because TikTok will tell you that you’ve been banned. If you feel like the ban isn’t warranted, you’ll need to reach out to TikTok support. The process of removing the ban, if it is to be removed, is a long one. Often taking several days. But it is worth it if you haven’t violated any of the company’s terms.
One of the most common reasons for a ban, conversely, is that there’s been no age verification. TikTok has been called out on several occasions and even paid fines for violating regulations about handling the data of minor users. And an age verification can clear up any misunderstanding if your content isn’t necessarily suitable for a younger audience. Or for younger users to be posting, for that matter.
So another common method for overcoming a ban or a shadowban is to provide the company with verification of your identity and age. This can be done as part of the customer support process. And proof via a government-issued ID is the fastest way through the process.
