Description

AnkiMobile is a mobile companion to Anki, a powerful, intelligent flashcard program that is free, multi-platform, and open-source. Sales of this app support the development of both the computer and mobile version, which is why the app is priced as a computer application.

AnkiMobile was written by the lead developer of Anki and AnkiWeb, and it has been around since 2010. Beware other apps using “Anki” in their name that have sprung up recently – they are not compatible with the rest of the Anki ecosystem, and they offer far fewer features.

Some of AnkiMobile’s features include:

– A free cloud synchronization service that lets you keep your card content synchronized across multiple mobile and computer devices. This makes it easy to add content on a computer and then study it on your mobile, easily keep your study progress current between an iPhone and iPad, and so on.
– The same proven scheduling algorithm that the computer version of Anki uses, which reminds you of material as you’re about to forget it.
– A flexible interface designed for smooth and efficient study. You can set up AnkiMobile to perform different actions when you tap or swipe on various parts of the screen, and control which actions appear on the tool buttons.
– Comprehensive graphs and statistics about your studies.
– Support for large card decks – even 100,000+ cards.
– If your cards use images or audio clips, the media is stored on your device, so you can study without an internet connection.
– A powerful search facility that allows you to find cards that match criteria such as ‘tagged high priority, answered in the last ten days and not containing the following words’, and automatically place them into a deck to study.
– Support for displaying mathematical equations with MathJax, and rendering LaTeX created with the computer version.
– Support for adding images drawn with the Apple Pencil to your cards.

Please note that AnkiMobile is currently intended as a companion to the computer version of Anki, rather than a complete replacement for it. While AnkiMobile is able to display and schedule your cards in the same way the computer version does, certain changes like modifying note types need to be done with the computer software. Add-ons are not supported, so while you can study image occlusion cards created with the computer version, they can not be created within AnkiMobile. For this reason, please start with the computer version of Anki before you think about buying this app.

The cloud synchronization service is optional, and data can also be imported/exported from the app via a USB cable or AirDrop.

Like all apps, AnkiMobile can be purchased once and then used on multiple devices in a household using the same Apple ID. Family sharing is also supported. For information on bulk discounts for educational institutions, please see Apple’s Volume Purchase Program.

For more information on AnkiMobile, including a link to the online manual, please have a look at the support page: https://docs.ankimobile.net/support.html. If you have any questions or want to report an issue, please let us know on our support site and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

Android applications come in the Android Package format labeled as APK. Occasionally, an error causes the default .APK files to be saved as .BIN files. If this happens, you won’t be able install or open the file without taking additional steps through a third party application. Fortunately, several easy to install and use applications are available to manage the .BIN file type.

What Is a .BIN File?

The .BIN file format is actually designed to store information in a binary format. The binary formatting is compatible with disk storage and it allows media files to save and sit on the physical disc.

Using a disc for storage however is increasingly uncommon and the file format does not translate to modern digital storage formats with manipulation to extract the information and migrate into a format easily used by Android devices along with any other relevant digital reader formats.

Install the Application

To install an application that is in .BIN file format, change the file’s extension and use a third party plugin to install the program or convert individual files.

Head to the Google Play Store and search for a BIN converter or ISO Extractor program. Make sure the program is setup to handle .BIN file formats and install the app on your Android device. After the app is installed, you must create a physical connection to a computer where you will change the file labels and actually pull the file back into the phone.

After you make this mandatory adjustment, the third party BIN opener service will be able to read and install the file on your Android device.

Using the BIN Opener Application

Press the Android device’s gear icon button and tap the Settings option. Tap the App Manager option and place a check mark next to the Unknown Sources option.

Tap the Developers menu option on the Application Settings menu and place a select the USB Debugging protocol.

Connect the Android phone to the computer via the USB connection cable that comes with the device. Slide the USB menu down from the top of the device’s screen. Tap the Disk Drive option to mount the Android phone in disk mode.

Choose the Start button in your computer’s task bar and select the Computer option or use the quick access navigation option for your file manager if one exists. Double-click the Android phone’s removable storage device icon to view its contents.

Locate the .BIN file in the Android’s storage folders. Click on the .BIN file to highlight the file and click on the file again to place your text cursor in the file’s name field. Change the file extension from .BIN to .APK by highlighting .BIN and typing .APK. For example, if the file is named application.BIN, change the name to application.APK.

Right-click on the Android phone’s removable storage device icon and select the Eject option. Disconnect the device from the computer. Tap the new extractor app on your phone to launch the program. Locate the .APK file and select the file to open and install it on the Android device.

Key Features

High-efficiency Learning

The core of Anki App is an advanced algorithm, developed and refined by our lead neuroscientist, to save you time. As you study, it learns how well you know each flashcard, then prioritizes them for you, so you study the things you don’t know, without wasting precious time on the things you already do.

Batteries-included

Get started right away with pre-made flashcards. Anki App comes with a collection of public flashcard decks built-in.

Download more, from a selection of 80+ million flashcards available from Quizlet and other sources.

If you’ve previously used the AnkiWeb service (not affiliated) to store flashcards, we can import from there too.

For content from other sources, we provide a service to load flashcards from spreadsheets in TSV format, which many tools can produce.

Rich Content Creation

Anki App lets you make your own flashcards, on any device. Creating cards is as easy as typing what you want on the front and back of each card. In addition to plain text, you can add images and sound* to your flashcards (*at the moment, sounds must be added using the web client—coming soon to other clients).

When you’re ready to get more advanced, Anki App lets you create “custom layouts” to present multiple fields of information, styled with HTML and CSS.

Cloud Access

Anki App seamlessly synchronizes to the cloud, so you can create flashcards on one device, and then study on another.

In addition, your AnkiApp account grants you free access to our web client. It works on any computer running the latest Chrome, Safari, or Opera browsers.

Rapidly Improving

We have big plans for the future, but we’re open to feedback along the way, and our users give us plenty. We balance suggestions against the simplicity and focus of the product; not every one makes the cut, but we have incorporated many of the ideas we’ve been given.

In Anki App ’s first year, we released over one update per month, and we’re continuing to innovate.

International

Anki App is available world-wide in up to 155 countries or regions around the world.

Anki App is available in English, French, German, Traditional and Simplified Chinese, Portuguese, and Romanian on all supported platforms, with more in the works.

*.apkg and *.anki2 file structure is very simple, but with some quirks of incompleteness.

*.apkg file structure is a zip of at least two files.

*.anki2 is a SQLite file with foreign key disabled, and the usage of some JSON schemas instead of some tables

Also, *.anki2 is used internally at os.path.join(appdirs.user_data_dir(‘Anki2’), ‘User 1’, ‘collection.anki2’) , so editing the SQLite there will also edit the database.

The media file is a text file of at least a string of <> , which is actually a dictionary of keys — stringified int; and values — filenames.

Some extra tables are created if not exists.

I also support adding media.

To find the wanted cards and media, iterate though the Apkg and Apkg.iter_media object.

Creating a new *.apkg

You can create a new *.apkg via Apkg with any custom filename (and *.anki2 via Anki2() ). A folder required to create *.apkg needs to be created first.

After that, the Apkg will require at least 1 card, which is connected to at least 1 note, 1 model, 1 template, and 1 deck; which should be created in this order.

  1. Model, Deck
  2. Template, Note
  3. Card

You can also add media, which is not related to the SQLite database.

Finally, finalize with

Updating an *.apkg

This is also possible, by modifying db.Notes.data as sqlite_ext.JSONField , with peewee.signals .

It is now as simple as,

JSON schema of Col.models , Col.decks , Col.conf and Col.dconf

I have created dataclasses for this at /ankisync2/builder.py. To serialize it, use dataclasses.asdict or

Editing user’s collection.anki2

This can be found at $/$/collection.anki2 . Of course, do this at your own risk. Always backup first.

Using peewee framework

This is based on peewee ORM framework. You can use Dataclasses and Lists directly, without converting them to string first.

== I do not think merging article into anki software is good idea. Apkg is just one format supported by anki and there are huge amount of information on how it was build. Including storing NoSQL/JSON data into relation database , which makes it “hybrid” and unique, I haven’t seen it in another apps. I hope to describe JSON structures next. ==

  • Мы удалили все наши продукты из App Store и Google Play в России;
  • Мы больше не сотрудничаем с компаниями, которые принадлежат российским гражданам или имеют к ним отношение;

If you don’t have regular internet access, it’s still possible to copy your collection back and forth between devices, though the process is not as convenient.

Collection transfer works by importing or exporting all your decks at once, in a special file called collection.colpkg . You can export that file on one device, copy it to another device, and import it there.

When you import a collection file, any existing content you have is replaced with the contents of the file – it is a one-way transfer from your other device.

This means that unlike syncing via AnkiWeb, you can’t make changes from two locations at once and then merge them – you need to make sure you’ve imported any recent changes from your other device before you make changes, or you’ll end up losing the changes made on one device.

A workflow you would typically use is to export your collection from your mobile device and import it into the computer version, make modifications (such as importing a shared deck you downloaded to your computer), and then export your collection and import it back into your mobile device.

Exporting individual decks is not currently possible, but is planned for the future.

Computer to iPhone/iPad

Export the File

On your computer:

Open the computer version of Anki.

Choose File>Export from the menu.

Click the Export button. Make sure to leave “All decks” and “Include scheduling information” turned on.

Anki will automatically create a collection.colpkg file on your desktop. If the file is named something else like deckname.apkg , please see the previous step again. If it is called collection.apkg , that will work – your Anki version is just old.

Transfer the File

If your devices are on the same wifi network and signed in to iCloud, you can use the AirDrop option in Finder to AirDrop the collection.colpkg file to your mobile device.

If you do not have access to AirDrop, you can use Finder or iTunes to drop the .colpkg file into Anki’s file sharing area.

Import the File

If you AirDropped the file, AnkiMobile should have automatically popped up and imported the file when you accepted it.

If you transferred the file via iOS file sharing, go to AnkiMobile’s deck list screen, and then:

Tap the Add/Export button on the bottom left.

Choose Import from iTunes, then confirm the replacement.

If you receive a message about “No file found to import”, please check to make sure you put the collection.colpkg file in AnkiMobile’s file sharing section.

Once complete, the decks on your device will have been replaced with the decks from your desktop.

When you import a collection.colpkg file, Anki will avoid copying any sounds or images if they already exist on your mobile device, and are the same file size. This will make imports after the first one considerably faster if you have a lot of media files.

iPhone/iPad to Computer

On AnkiMobile, tap the Add/Export button on the bottom left of the decks list.

AirDrop

  1. Choose Export to Share, and then choose AirDrop.
  2. Select your computer. If your computer doesn’t appear, make sure you have AirDrop open on your computer.
  3. Once the file has arrived on your computer, use File>Import inside Anki to import the file.

Finder/iTunes

  1. Choose Export to iTunes, and tap Export.

Then on your computer:

Connect your Apple device to your computer via the USB cable.

Open Finder or iTunes.

Locate Anki’s file sharing section with Apple’s instructions.

Drag the collection.colpkg file from Finder or iTunes to your desktop.

Use File>Import in Anki to import the file.

After importing, you can delete the file on your desktop if you wish.

How to open apkg files on mobile or desktop

If you own an Android device you will likely have heard of an APK file at some point, and possibly wondered what it even is. Understanding this is essential if you want to start downloading leaked apps or customizing your Android experience further than would be possible using the Play Store alone. In our guide, you’ll learn what APK files are, how to download them, and finally, how to install them.

Jump to:

  • What is an APK File?
  • Why would I want to install an APK File?
  • How to install an APK on your Android device
  • How to install APK Files from your computer

What is an APK File?

An Android Package Kit (APK for short) is the package file format used by the Android operating system for distribution and installation of mobile apps. Just like Windows (PC) systems use an .exe file for installing software, the APK does the same for Android.

When you download an APK online, you’re essentially getting an app. Most users get apps from the Google Play Store, without ever seeing the word APK. But there are occasions when you would want to do otherwise.

In 2021, Google started phasing out APK files on the Play Store, replacing them with the more flexible AAB format. But because AAB files are custom-made to each device, they require different steps to install.

Why would I want to install an APK File?

APK files of new Android builds are often leaked ahead of time, giving you early access to all the exciting new features that otherwise wouldn’t be available to you. Also, some apps are restricted to regions outside of your own. App updates can take a frustrating amount of time to arrive automatically over the air. Getting the latest APK for your favorite apps will let you jump the queue. Or you might even not like a particular app after an update, and want to install an older version instead.

And if your Android device lacks access to the Google Play Store, APK files may be your only option for installing apps on your device.

Be careful though, you don’t want to download stolen apps. Some APK services let you download pirated apps. This is illegal and should be avoided. Worse still, sketchy APK files may contain malware, as many who thought they were getting early versions of Fortnite for Android discovered to their dismay. Do some research before you download so you don’t do anything against the law or contaminate your device.

How to install an APK on your Android device

  1. You can install APK files on your Android smartphone or tablet directly from your browser.
  2. Just open your browser, find the APK file you want to download, and tap it – you should then be able to see it downloading on the top bar of your device.
  3. Once it’s downloaded, open Downloads, tap on the APK file and tap Yes when prompted.
  4. The app will begin installing on your device. Simple.

How to install APK Files from your computer

You don’t need a smartphone to download and install APK files. You can also do this on a desktop PC. Here’s how it works.

First, you must find an APK file you want. Search online for an APK file and download it to an easy-to-find location on your computer (like your desktop).

How to open apkg files on mobile or desktopWhen you first install from a non-Google source on newer Android versions, you see a prompt like this. / © NextPit

  1. If you like, you can also download a file manager app so you can easily find files on your Android device. We recommend our favorite file managers in our list of the best file explorers for Android.
  2. Once you’ve downloaded the APK file on your computer, connect your Android device to it.
  3. At this point, you may be asked if you want to charge your phone or connect it as a ‘media device’ Choose Media device (File Transfer in some phones).
  4. Then, find your phone’s folder on your computer. It will be in ‘My Computer’ or ‘Computer’ on Windows (PC).
  5. Copy the APK file into a folder of your choice on your Android smartphone.
  6. You will now be able to search for the file location in the My files folder of your device.
  7. Open the file manager, find the APK file, tap it, then hit Install.

Note: If it is the first time you are using the file manager to install an APK file, Android will prompt you to authorize the app to Install unknown apps – i.e. those not downloaded from the Play Store. Follow the on-screen instructions to allow the app to do so, similarly to the screenshot above.

And now you’re done, congratulations, you have your app. Just open it up from your smartphone and make sure it works properly. If it doesn’t, repeat the process with a different APK file. You may have to try a different APK site.

If the operating system on your smartphone is running a version older than Android 8.0, you need to change a system setting to be able to install apps not downloaded from the Play Store:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap Security.
  3. Activate the Unknown Sources option to allow your phone to install apps from sources other than the Google Play Store.

Do you download APK files? Which do you recommend? Let us know in the comments!

The best APK download sites

There are many sources of APK files across the web, but be sure to choose a site you trust. Some APK files may contain malicious software (malware) which could compromise your phone’s security. It is best to be cautious before downloading or installing any app from outside of the Play Store.

Generally speaking, APK files found on reputable sites like the ones listed here should be safer to download than from elsewhere, but read some reviews and user comments before downloading or installing an APK.

How to open apkg files on mobile or desktopWith APKs you can get app versions not yet available on Google Play. / © NextPit (screenshot)

APKMirror is generally regarded as the safest option out there. It is now owned and operated by the Android Police, and those guys know what they are talking about. APKPure is another good option. Security is a priority on this site and you can download APKs without having to worry about spyware and viruses. Finally, Aptoide is a good resource for APKs. It has more than 200 million users, apparently.

I am an assistance teacher who was instructing my pupil to make cards in Anki. My pupil run the AnkiDroid in the NX- emulator because he did not have his smartphone for a few days and because at that time I was not familiar with Anki desktop.

In the meantime we decided to change to the Anki Desktop. During experimenting how he could get the apkg- File out of the emulator to import it in Anki Desktop there was an issue with AnkiDroid in the emulator. The pupil says, there was any process he wasn’t able to cancle, he was only able to press the OK button and after this incident all decks and cards were deleted.

In the meantime I have informed me, how to get the apkg- File out of the Emulator. So I was sure that the breakdown of Anki Droid is no problem, because we have 8 automatic backup files. So I took all 8 apkg- Files out of the Emulator.

Then we tryed to import one after the other into Anki desktop. But there was always an error:

I tried the same at home on my own PC with a very good working Anki Desktop:
Same result:

Import failing.
Traceback (most recent call last):

File “zipfile.py”, line 892, in open
File “zipfile.py”, line 859, in getinfo
KeyError: “There is no item named ‘media’ in the archive”

I am completely baffled how it can be that all backups are broken.

The apkg- Files are attached.

How can I fix this apkg files?

You can rename the latest file to something.zip and open it, then copy the collection.anki2 file to Documents/Anki/User 1/ while Anki is closed to import it.

After ensuring you have the latest AnkiDroid, if future generated backups/exported files are still regarded is invalid please, report the issue to the AnkiDroid developers: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/anki-android

Welcome to the RealLife Radio Connected Speech ANKI FLASHCARD Guide. Creating a simple daily habit of using Anki Flashcards is one of the most powerful changes you can make for your English learning.

We love Anki so much that we decided to create an Anki Vocabulary Learning Resource for each Connected Speech Lesson with 30 Advanced Terms (Phrasal Verbs, Idioms, Slang, and Connected Speech Examples– all including pronunciation).

The purpose of this page is to show you how to install it, access your RealLife Radio resources, and install it on your mobile device(s).

Anki flashcards is, for the most part, a very simple and easy-to-use program, but for some users (and on some occasions) there are complications. As we talk about in the instructions below, we recommend you first create an account on their website, and then download the application, as almost every user can find MANY convenient moments throughout their day to use it. Some examples of our favorite times to use it are when waiting for/riding public transport, in line at the store or elsewhere, and while waiting for that friend that always arrives late.

Note: On a very basic level, Anki is a simple, user-friendly program, but it is so sophisticated, with so many possible features, that you can customize it as much as you want. This document will cover the basics, but check out the Anki User’s Manual for more advanced options.

Anki Instructions

You will need to (a) Create an account with Anki, (b) download the desktop program, and (c) if you have a mobile device, download the application. You will find instructions below. If after reading this document you are still having problems, PLEASE E-MAIL US! Now let’s get started.

  • Go to AnkiWeb and create an account. (it’s completely FREE)
  • Download the Anki desktop program (also FREE)
  • By the way, if you enjoy it, please show your support by giving the deck a 5-Star Review
  • Watch the video below made by RealLife Guy, Ethan, who is the biggest Anki fan we know.

How to Use Anki

If you would like a more in-depth introduction to this resource (and tons of tips on how to use it), read the article Ethan wrote on Anki, The Secret Tool For Memorizing New Vocabulary

  • To download it onto your mobile device, or as an application on your computer, scroll down to the bottom of this page and choose your systems settings.

Sync Your Anki on All Your Devices From Your Computer

It’s generally easier and more efficient to open the Anki file on your computer and sync it to all your mobile devices from your desktop. Here’s how to do it:

  • Click on the Anki file we send you- usually in “.apkg” format (the anki desktop program should open automatically- make sure you’ve downloaded the free desktop program.)
  • Synchronize it to your anki online account by clicking the synchronize button below (if you haven’t created the free account, create it here)
  • After uploading the Anki Deck/File to your desktop and synchronizing it with your online account, you can then synchronize it from your online account to the Anki App on Your Mobile Device.

AnkiDroid Mobile App For Android

How to Sync Upload Your Anki File to Your AnkiDroid (Mobile Device)

Although it’s generally easier to open your anki and sync it to all your devices from your computer, there is an alternative method to open it on your android phone. Here’s how you do it: 1. Download the app ASTRO file manager: 2. Download the Anki file from your email 3. Open ASTRO and search for the anki file in the “recent” section (it should be the first one if you just downloaded it) 4. Click on it 5. It should automatically open with Anki 6. Anki will supply a message, click “Add” 7. Enjoy!

Anki Mobile App For Apple

Unfortunately the Anki Mobile App for iPhones costs $24.99 in the iTunes store. If you have an iPhone, despite it’s cost, however, it’s very convenient to study vocabulary anywhere you want. If you have an iPhone and would prefer not to buy it, the use of it on the website is still free. However, keep in mind that by purchasing it, you are supporting future development of Anki.

How to Build a Habit with Anki

Anki is such a simple and effective program, and it only takes a few minutes a day, but one of the challenges you might face is forming a daily habit. To build a habit, it helps to do it the same time every day, and it takes consistency. We recommend that you commit to using Anki for 30 days. Here’s an excellent article written by former RealLife Radio Host, Trevor, about habits: How to Guarantee Language Learning Success (30 Day Trial).

We also covered this in Podcast #46 (When we were testing the Connected Speech Lessons). Download the lesson here to listen and learn (It’s an old version so this one doesn’t have an Anki Vocabulary file).

We highly recommend that you watch this short video that talks about habit formation. If you’re interested in learning more about the Power of Habit, and you feel like challenging yourself with a native-speaker podcast then check out this dynamic interview of habit-expert, Charles Duhigg.

Ah man!! This is brilliant. I got the app, pretty cool idea and the links to the endgame trainer in the endgame deck is very good. Thanks a lot for sharing this pkill

At first I thought that it was another chess server advertisement of the day!

Thanks, but I have not seen in the information of the app that it uses space repetition.

How to open apkg files on mobile or desktop

By the way, in case anyone’s wondering, I’ve signed up for Chessable and paid for the course. I’ll see how well the spaced repetition works but I’m figuring that it’s probably worth it for the content. At some point I’ll probably also get back into the habit of doing endgame practice on Chess Tempo, which seems to test you on similar ideas but with a “play vs engine” approach rather than “remember variations”.

In other news, having signed up for Chessable to do the endgame and maybe tactics content like a sophisticated person and definitely not just to memorize a bunch of openings like an idiot, I now keep looking at the opening courses and thinking that well, a _small_ opening course can’t hurt, can it? So maybe my well-intentioned endgame course is the gateway drug that will eventually lead to me spending my life memorizing thousands of opening lines that I’ll never actually see on the board.

How to open apkg files on mobile or desktop

  • Google allows ‘sideloading’ apps via APK files
  • Sometimes these APKs can contain malware
  • It is possible to verify an APK before installing it

One of the best things about Android is the amount of control that the operating system gives users. For instance, with an iPhone, if you want to install apps, you have to either use the App Store or jailbreak the phone.

With Android, you can use Google Play, or side load the app using an APK file. To do this, all you need to do is copy the APK on your phone, enable Unknown sources in the privacy settings and launch the APK, and you’ll install the app that’s been packaged in the file.

However, this level of simplicity also means that there’s a little risk – for Android users, downloading apps via Google Play is the safest option. Based on the data released by the Android security team this year, you’re about 10 times more likely to have a potentially harmful application on your device if you’re not just using Google Play.

Because of that, if you’re planning to use an APK file you’ve downloaded, it’s a good idea to run a few simple checks to try and verify that it is really what it claims to be. Luckily, there are a few simple ways you can do this.

Scanning the APK

1. VirusTotal
The VirusTotal website lets you upload your APK files to check for viruses and other issues. Android files are the fifth most popular file to be checked on the website. The one caveat is that the file size has to be under 128MB, so some games in particular might be too big for this tool.

To use, do the following:

  1. Open the site.
  2. Click on Choose File, and in the browser dialogue box, select your file.
  3. Click on Scan it! to get your results.

How to open apkg files on mobile or desktop

This will help you to quickly check if an APK is safe or not. In general, we’ve seen a lot of comments online praising VirusTotal’s effectiveness. It was acquired by Google in 2012, and is a non-commercial entity. The aggregated data is the output of different antivirus engines, website scanners, file and URL analysis tools and user contributions.

2. NViso ApkScan
Another tool that’s similar to VirusTotal is NViso ApkScan. It also provides a detailed report on the APK file you have, and there’s no file size limit. We’ve seen this tool recommended on the most number of forums, and it worked quickly and easily.

To use Nviso, do the following:

  1. Open the Nviso site.
  2. Drag and drop the APK file onto the site.
  3. Click on Scan package.

How to open apkg files on mobile or desktop

You can also tick the E-mail box, enter you email ID, and leave the site if you like. You will then get the results in your mail. The results are detailed, starting with a risk rating, and then showing you the permissions that the app asks for, general information such as its MD5 and SHA256 hashes, and file size (this information might be publicly available for the app you’re trying to download, helping verify the authenticity of the APK), and includes a virus scan.

Checking the hash

3. Hash Droid
As mentioned above, one way to see if you’re downloading the right APK is to check its hash. The SHA of a file is kind of like a digital fingerprint, and if the app you’re looking for has its SHA publicly mentioned by the developers, then you can compare that with the SHA of the APK you have. If the two match, you’re safe.

Nviso ApkScan is one way to look up this information, but if you want to get it done on your phone itself, you can use the Hash Droid app.

  1. Install Hash Droid from Google Play.
  2. Select Hash a File.
  3. Under Select a hash, choose SHA-256.
  4. Choose the APK file you want to check.
  5. Tap on Calculate.

How to open apkg files on mobile or desktop

This should show you the APK’s hash data, which would be a long string that looks something like this: 5a8679e3e4298b7b3ffac725106db12a21bdb0bcf746f44fa7e46c40dbf794aa. That’s the original Pokemon Go hash, in case you’re wondering.

By using this method, you can compare the hashes of APKs and what the app publishers have revealed, to see if the APK is safe to install.

That’s it – with these three methods, you can be have a greater degree of security when using apps downloaded from third party sources. However, it’s worth noting that these methods are never 100 percent secure, and if you’re worried about malware, then it’s probably better to stick to the Play Store.

We hope that was useful to you – tell us about your experiences with APK files via the comments. And if you want to read more tips and tricks, check out our how-to section.

  • A little off topic, but thought I’d receive the best responses here.

So I downloaded the anki app for ipad but am having trouble getting the cards on the app. My buddy sent me a slide deck and it is in a .apkg file format. I tried loading that to my google drive and to then import into the anki app. This is how I have uploaded many files, but am having no luck with this. Is this is the wrong file format?

Please any advice on how to upload would be great as its a great slide deck.

  • So didn’t exactly read all your comments above, but here is how you do it.

    1. Download the .apkg file onto your laptop/cp and load it onto anki by double clicking the file
    2. After it is loaded, make sure the cards you want to do are unsuspended and ready to go
    3. Go here and set up an ankiweb id Account Login – AnkiWeb
    4. In anki, go to Tools->Preferences->there should be a button to attach your ankiweb ID
    5. After everything is loaded, your ankiweb id is attached to your anki
    6. Press the sync button on the top right corner
    6. Download/pay the anki app on your ipad/phone and then link the same ankiweb id to your anki app on the device
    7. Press the “sync” button on the bottom right corner
    8. your cards will be ready.

The anki app on devices are limited, so you can’t really import/export cards well, change card settings/steps, etc.

How to Open a File With the ANKI File Extension

If you’re looking to find out how to open the ANKI file extension, you’ve come to the right place. In most cases, Windows will open a file in the associated program, but some files fall outside of those parameters. Keep reading to find out how you can open your ANKI file on both Windows and Mac.

Optional Offer for File Magic by Solvusoft | EULA | Privacy Policy | Terms | Uninstall

Problem: You Can’t Open ANKI Files

You might’ve double-clicked on the file, to be greeted with the “Choose a program to open the file” message. In some cases, you might be able to open the file, but the contents may seem garbled and that’s because it was written to be opened in a specific program. Of course, you can’t open a ANKI file with just any software. Not to worry – we have you covered!

Step 1: Find Out Which Software Uses ANKI Files

How to open apkg files on mobile or desktop

Opening your ANKI file starts with understanding which software uses a ANKI extension. In many cases, different types of software may use the same file extensions, also known as file associations.

Anki Deck File is the most popular software package that uses ANKI files. Therefore, your best bet would be to download that software package and use it to open your file.

Zipped files tend to require special handling and may require password access. Contact the file owner or the person who gave you the file for the password and unzip the file before attempting to open the contents.

Step 2: Learning More About ANKI “File Type”

If you can’t download Anki Deck File software, or if it doesn’t work to open your ANKI file, you may be able to use the file type as a clue to finding out how you can open it. Using a Windows PC, you can right-click and navigate to “Properties” and then to “Type of file”. On a Mac, select “More info” and “Kind”.

Most likely, you will find that ANKI files are considered Uncommon Files. Because many programs packages utilize Uncommon Files, you might be able to find a program on your computer that handles those types of files.

If that still does not work, you may have to contact the associated software developer to find out how to open it. Unless you know the specific developer, you could contact one of these developers for assistance.

For most users, downloading Pleco from Google Play and downloading databases for it via its built-in download manager should work fine; however, we also offer the following alternative methods in case those fail to deliver for you.

    1. Install Pleco Application – start here if Pleco isn’t installed on your device at all yet.
    2. Install Other Data Files – start here if Pleco is installed and running successfully but you’re unable to download additional files in “Add-ons.”

    Install Pleco Application

Here’s how to install Pleco without using Google Play:

    1. Configure Device. Since this is not being distributed through Google Play, the first thing you need to do is configure your device to work with non-Play apps.On most Android devices, you can do this by opening up the built-in “Settings” app, tapping on “Applications,” and check the “Unknown Sources” box at the top of the page. (it may be under “Security” on some devices)
    2. Install Application. Enter the following link in your device’s web browser:pleco.com/getandroid(for users running Android 2.x or 3.x: pleco.com/getoldandroid)

After the download finishes, go into your notification bar and tap on it. You should see a prompt asking if you want to install Pleco; click yes and the app will show up in your program launcher screen.

If this doesn’t work and your device has a built-in file manager (called “My Files” on a lot of devices) or can download one from its built-in app store (search for “file manager” and download a well-reviewed free one), open the “download” folder in your SD card and you should see a file called “plecodroid-(some numbers)-.apk”; tap on that file to install Pleco.

If your device can’t successfully finish this download, click on the above link to download the file to your computer, copy it to your device’s storage memory (connect your device to it via USB, swipe down the notification bar, tap on the USB connection notification, tap on the button to mount it as a USB drive, and copy the file to that drive), then open it on your device using a file manager.

(advanced users: all this is doing is downloading an APK file, so if you prefer to install it some other way, just download the file from that link and install it however you like)

  • Launch Application. The first time you run it, Pleco will automatically download two free dictionaries and some other data files to get you started; additional databases can be obtained via the “Add-ons” menu command. If you encounter any problems with those file downloads, see below for alternate ways to download Pleco’s data files.
