Intune uses Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) groups to manage devices and users. As an Intune admin, you can set up groups to suit your organizational needs. Create groups to organize users or devices by geographic location, department, or hardware characteristics. Use groups to manage tasks at scale. For example, you can set policies for many users or deploy apps to a set of devices.

You can add the following types of groups:

Assigned groups – Manually add users or devices into a static group.

Dynamic groups (Requires Azure AD Premium) – Automatically add users or devices to user groups or device groups based on an expression you create.

For example, when a user is added with the manager title, the user is automatically added to an All managers users group. Or, when a device has the iOS/iPadOS device OS type, the device is automatically added to an All iOS/iPadOS devices devices group.

Add a new group

Use the following steps to create a new group.

In Group type, choose one of the following options:

Security: Security groups define who can access resources, and are recommended for your groups in Intune. For example, you can create groups for users, such as All Charlotte employees or Remote workers. Or, create groups for devices, such as All iOS/iPadOS devices or All Windows 10 student devices.

The users and groups created can also be seen in the Microsoft 365 admin center, Azure Active Directory admin center, and Microsoft Intune in the Azure portal. In your organization tenant, you can create and manage groups in all these areas.

If your primary role is device management, we recommend you use the Microsoft Endpoint Manager admin center.

Microsoft 365: Provides collaboration opportunities by giving members access to a shared mailbox, calendar, files, SharePoint site, and more. This option also lets you give people outside of your organization access to the group. For more information, see Learn about Microsoft 365 Groups.

Please note: Only security-enabled Microsoft 365 Groups are supported

Enter a Group name and Group description for the new group. Be specific and include information so others know what the group is for.

For example, enter All Windows 10 student devices for group name, and All Windows 10 devices used by students in Contoso high school grades 9-12 for group description.

Enter the Membership type. Your options:

Assigned: Administrators manually assign users or devices to this group, and manually remove users or devices.

Dynamic User: Administrators create membership rules to automatically add and remove members.

Dynamic Device: Administrators create dynamic group rules to automatically add and remove devices.

In this admin center, when you create users or groups, you might not see the Azure Active Directory branding. But, that’s what you’re using.

Choose Create to add the new group. Your group is shown in the list.

Consider some of the other dynamic user and device groups you can create, such as:

  • All Students in Contoso high school
  • All Android Enterprise devices
  • All iOS 11 and older devices
  • Marketing
  • Human Resources
  • All Charlotte employees
  • All WA employees

Groups and policies

Access to your organization’s resources are controlled by users and groups you create.

When you create groups, consider how you’ll apply compliance policies and configuration profiles. For example, you might have:

  • Policies that are specific to a device operating system.
  • Policies that are specific to different roles in your organization.
  • Policies that are specific to organizational units you defined in Active Directory.

To create the basic compliance requirements of your organization, you can create a default policy that applies to all groups and devices. Then, create more specific policies for the broadest categories of users and devices. For example, you might create email policies for each of the device operating systems.

Organize Using Stacks

If your Mac desktop looks anything like this, well, the first thing you should do is to enable the Stacks feature first introduced in macOS Mojave.

To do this, find an empty space on your desktop and right-click. Here, choose the “Use Stacks” options.

Instantly, macOS will arrange and group all similar files. You’ll find different Stacks for images, documents, and so on.

The next thing you should do is to change the default save location for screenshots. If you use your Mac regularly, your desktop might be cluttered with screenshots. Simply changing the default save destination to a different folder will do wonders.

Customize Your Desktop Icons

Now that you have enabled Stacks and you have your screenshot situation under control, it’s time to get to the good stuff—customizing the desktop icons.

To get started, right-click in an empty space on your desktop and select the “Show View Options” button.

This screen will show you all the options for customizing the desktop icons.

From the “Stack By” option, you can choose to group the Stacks by Kind, Date Last Opened, Date Added, Date Modified, Date Created, and by Tags. We’ve talked about it in more detail in our Stacks guide.

Click the dropdown next to “Sort By” to sort all icons by Name, Kind, Date Last Opened, Date Added, Date Modified, Date Created, Size, and by Tags.

The next section is for customizing the visual style.

Use the slider below the “Icon Size” option to increase or decrease the icon size. If you’re using a monitor with your Mac, increasing the icon size can be really helpful.

Next, you can give the icons a little more breathing room by increasing the “Grid Spacing.”

From the “Text Size” option, you can increase the text size of the label. You can go between 10 points and 16 points in size.

While you can’t hide a label, you can switch it to the right side of the icon (if you want to view longer labels).

If you want to see information about the file or the folder like how many files are in a folder, or the available space in a hard drive, we recommend that you enable the “Show Item Info” option.

Lastly, if you don’t want to see a preview of the file (especially images and PDFs) as the icon, you can uncheck the “Show Icon Preview” option.

So, I wanted to share a short “How to” with all of you today. This is something that has been bugging me for awhile on my Facebook homepage– those little shortcuts that Facebook offers you on the left side of your screen. ‘Why do they bug you, Jason?’ Good question class. What has been bugging me is the order they are in and the ones they have decided I need to see. I think that we should be making these decisions and not the MAN (a.k.a. Facebook). There is a way to edit this little shortcut list yourself and I’m going to show you how to do it. Now start that printer up or go old school and grab a paper and pencil. Here is the steps on how to edit your shortcut list.

Step 1: Log in to your Facebook page

Step 2: Once logged in, you should be on your home page. On this screen you will need to look to the left and you should see at the top a menu named Shortcuts

Step 3: There are two ways that you can edit these Shortcuts: One, just hover your mouse over the shortcut you wish to edit and three horizontal dots will appear. Click them.

Step 4: A menu will appear with either Unpin from Top, Pin to top or Hide from Shortcuts which are the only options they offer for editing the list. There might be other options for groups, but those are not important to this article. Choose if you want it pinned to the top or hidden from the list or, as my picture shows, Unpin from top.

Step 3.1: The other way to do this is by hovering your mouse over the shortcut menu and clicking edit link that appears at the top. Click it

Step 4.1: Now you will see a window with all the editing options and shortcuts you can work with. Again, you only get one new choice in here, but at least you can now see all your shortcut options. Click one of the down arrows next to a shortcut. Here you have the added option to Sort Automatically. When you are done adjusting things, just hit the Save button at bottom right.

Side note: In this window to unpin a shortcut you have to set it to Sort Automatically. Also notice that it does not always work from this window (this is a bug on Facebook’s side).

Bonus Tip

If you want a certain shortcut to be on the top, you will need to pin it to the top Last. They are put in order from last pinned to first which means what ever you pin last should show on the top of the menu. You should do the main pinning from the main shortcut list on the left of your home page. Found it worked much easier. Thought that would be helpful for you (You’re​ welcome).

You will need to mess around with this to get the hang of putting your shortcuts in the order you prefer.

Final Thoughts

This has some bugs/issues, but overall, you can edit the shortcuts, which I like. I wish they would make it easier to move them in the order I want like dragging them with my mouse. Facebook, get to work on that would you? Plus work some of the bugs out. Hope this was a helpful article for you.

Many Mac users store files on their desktops. Apple even lets you sync your Desktop folder via iCloud. The upcoming macOS Mojave release helps cut through the clutter with “Desktop Stacks,” a feature that automatically organizes the files on your desktop.

Desktop Stacks aren’t enabled by default on macOS Mojave. You can enable them from the desktop’s context menu. To open it, either Ctrl+click or right-click on your desktop. If you’re using a MacBook with a touchpad, perform a two-finger click.

When the menu appears, point to the “Group Stacks By” menu, and then select your preferred categorization scheme. Select “Kind” to group files by type—for example, this will give you separate stacks for documents, images, screenshots, and videos. Select “Date Last Opened,” “Date Added,” “Date Modified,” or “Date Created” to group files by a time associated with the file. To organize your files into custom stacks, select “Tags.” You can then assign tags to your files.

If you’re not sure which option to choose, we recommend selecting Kind. You can always go back to this menu and change the Stacks later.

Your files immediately will be sorted into different “Stacks” on your desktop.

Click a stack to see the files inside it. When you add a new file to the desktop, your Mac automatically places it in the correct stack, keeping your desktop clear and making it easy to find recent files. You can always rearrange these stacks by selecting a different grouping option in the context menu.

To stop using Stacks, select Group Stacks By > None. Files will appear on the desktop normally.

The macOS dock still supports stacked folders, too. These are separate from desktop stacks.

You can change how Stacks are sorted, if you like. After enabling stacks, open the desktop context menu once again, point to the “Sort Stacks By” menu, and then choose a sorting scheme. You can select either “Name,” “Kind,” “Date Last Opened,” “Date Added,” “Date Modified,” “Date Created,” “Size,” or “Tags.”

By default, Stacks are sorted by “Date Added,” which means that the files you most recently added to your desktop appear at the top of each stack.

How to Assign Tags to Files

Tags are a powerful way to group stacks. Tags let you set up a custom sorting system where you group related files together. For example, you could tag files belonging to a specific project with a special tag, group stacks by tag, and see all the project’s files in a single stack.

To assign tags to an individual file, Ctrl+click, right-click, or two-finger click the file to open its context menu. Select multiple files before opening the context menu to assign the same tags to multiple files at once.

In the menu, select one of the options in the Tags section. You can quickly add a colored tag like “Red” by clicking one of the colors.

To assign custom tags, click the “Tags” option underneath the colored circles. You can type custom tags into this box or click existing tags to quickly add them.

You can assign multiple tags by separating them with a comma. For example, to assign both “work” and “project” tags to a file, type “work, project” into the box, and then press Enter.

To view stacks grouped by tag, select Group Stacks By > Tags in the desktop context menu. Untagged files will appear together in a “No Tags” stack.

You can assign tags to files anywhere on your system via the Finder, too. Tags can help sort your files and make them easier to find with Spotlight search. Of course, only tagged files located on your desktop will appear in desktop stacks.

Share with whom you want to share

Facebook allows you to create custom friend lists. This comes in handy at times when you have an update you’d like to share with only certain friends. You can create as many friend lists as you like and separate your professional contacts from personal ones.

Facebook custom friends lists will help you keep your Facebook news feed organized. You can also select any friend list to see a feed of posts made by just the people on that list.

Create Facebook Custom Friend Lists

First of all, you’ll need to log into your Facebook account on your desktop. You can’t create Facebook custom friend lists on the mobile app.

  • In order to see your custom friend lists, open Facebook on your computer and go to your News Feed.
  • Find the Explore section on the left and select Friend Lists. If you can’t find it, click to See More and scroll down.

This will take you to a page that shows your current friend lists. You’ll see that by default you already have three of them.

  • Close Friends (people you might want to share exclusively with).
  • Acquaintances (people you might want to share less with).

Remember that when you add someone to your Restricted list, they will only be able to see the content you set as Public or posts that you tag them in. However, you can create as many new lists as you like.

  • From your Facebook News Feed, find the Explore section on the left and select Friend Lists.

When you’ve set up a list, you can post an update on Facebook for specific people. For example, post something for just your colleagues or friends that live in your hometown. Using lists, you can also see updates from specific groups of people.

Click on a friend list and Facebook will generate a news feed that will only contain updates from the people that are on that list.

You can modify your lists at any time, and users won’t get notified when you add or remove them from a certain list.

Use Facebook Custom Friend Lists To Filter Content

When you want to hide your Facebook updates from specific friends, you can do it in individual posts or by tweaking your overall privacy settings.

  • By default, Facebook will let you select from the following options: Everyone, Friends Only, or Friends of Friends. Select Customize to apply your custom friend lists instead.
  • For individual posts, when sharing a status update, find the lock icon on the bottom right of your post. That way you can control who sees your Facebook content on every single post. You can also do it when editing settings for your photo albums.

Have a Backup Plan

Even though you’re the only person with access to your Facebook custom friend lists, don’t forget what Facebook is all about. Social networking and sharing information. So make sure you have a plan in case one of your friends find out you’ve been sharing information with other friends that they couldn’t see.

If you don’t want people talking, consider hiding your Facebook friends from others completely.

How To Keep Your Images In A Specific Order

Reader Asks A Good Question..

Q:I have a folder with 200 pictures which I have arranged in a very specific order. I want to burn them to a CD, but when I try to burn them in Roxio they burn to a cd but not in the order that they are in the folder. Any help is appreciated. ”

A: The trick for resolving this puzzle is to understand that computers will do their own arranging (and assigning), using a pre-configured, rigid, logic — generally alphabetical order. So even though you have carefully nudged the icons representing (for human viewing) your photos (actually JPEG files) around into an arranged order of your liking, the machine will still think of the files in terms of IMG0001.JPG, followed by the “greater than” IMG0002.JPG (2 is “greater than” 1) which will be followed by the “greater than” IMG0003.JPG.
Etc.

So the answer is to rename the files , and do so in an order that matches your order.

If you had just a few files, you could manually rename the first image by giving it a name and adding a one. Repeating for the second image, but adding a 2. And, repeating for the third image, but adding a 3. As I did for this collection of screenshots that were going to be a slideshow (and needed a certain ‘order’)

But since you have so many, you need an easier way – what is called a “batch rename” by us Über Geeks.

1) Arrange the photos into the order you like.

2) Click on one of the images to turn it blue (aka “select it”)

How to organize facebook groups on a pc or mac3) Hold down the Ctrl key and press the “A” key (or Edit > Select All). This will turn all the images blue (all are now ‘selected’).

4) Right-click on the first image, and choose Rename from the context menu (the name of small side window that pops open).
Your cursor will now be blinking inside the file name ‘box’.

5) Type in a ‘name’ — preferably something related to your project, or the subject matter.
(This one might be “fishtrip”, for example.)

IMPORTANT Do NOT add a number — this is done automatically during the rename process

Note: If for some reason you are unhappy with the result.. say you made a mistake, you can Undo the rename you just did by pressing Ctrl+Z (or going to the Edit menu and choosing the top choice – “Undo rename”. (I love Ctrl + Z!)

Now that you have put your ordering in terms a computer cannot argue with, your CD burning software, or “import”-ing into PowerPoint, or whatnot, will respect and follow your arrangement.
Because “fishtrip (4).jpg” is ‘greater than’ (aka “alphabetical”) “fishtrip (3).jpg” … right? Right.

Remember folks, machines are kinda dumb: they can only “think” in binary (a 1 or a 0)(aka “true or false”, “on or off”). They cannot “see” your photo – they see C:\User Name\Pictures\IMAG0001.JPG.

2. Storage matters

Photos Duplicate Cleaner easily locates and removes duplicate photos from your Mac. It’s available as a free download from the Mac App Store.

PDC creates groups of duplicate photos, so it’s easy to find the number of occurrences of similar images. All copies of a photo are deleted except the original. This can save you plenty of disk space on your Mac.
