There are two easy ways to upload iPhone photos to Facebook. If you are on the go and want to load a picture or two from your iPhone, you can do this using the Facebook App. If you have a series of photos you wish to upload, it will be quicker to hook your iPhone up to a computer and load them over Facebook online.
1. Loading a Photo Directly from Your iPhone
The easiest method requires downloading the Facebook App to your iPhone. This is a great method of adding a picture if you are waiting in a line or on the subway and have some time to kill. The app will allow you to take a picture from the app itself or load pictures already taken and now saved in your camera roll.
Open the Facebook app by tapping the app icon (see above). From either your News Feed (picture below, left), or on your personal Timeline or Profile (pictured below, right), tap the word Photo. If you are unsure as to where you are, tap the box with the three lines in the top left corner, then and selecting your name or News Feed.
On this next screen, you have a choice. If you want to take a new picture (or record video) right now, choose Take Photo or Video. Or, if you previously took a photo with your iPhone, tap Choose From Library.
Take Photo or Video
The iPhone opens the camera app. To take a Photo, make sure there is a large camera icon button (pictured below, left). To record Video, make sure there is a red button (pictured below, right). Selecting between photos and video capture is easy — simply toggle the button in the bottom right corner back and forth.
After tapping the camera icon to take a photo, the Preview screen allows you to Retake a new picture or Use the the current photo. Option: tap anywhere on your picture to “Tag” your Facebook friends; when it asks “Who is this?”, type in friend’s name. Repeat for multiple faces in the photo.
If you Use your photo, or click Done after Tagging your friend(s), the next screen prompts you to Write a Caption or to Post. Option: Tap “Where was this taken? (pictured below, left) to “Geotag” your location. If you want to add a location, type it in manually, or (pictured below, right) the iPhone may name local places and business in your immediate area.
After writing something about your photo — and/or optionally Geo-taggin it — tap Post to upload your photo to your Facebook Timeline (or Profile).
Choose From Library
For those who already have a picture stored on their iPhone, tap Choose From Library. The screen will take you to your Library or Cameral Roll, where all of the photos you have stored on your phone are available for you to scroll through. Select the photo you want added to Facebook.
Similar to above, you will have the same options to Tag, Geotag, and Write a Caption. When you are done, simply tap Post to upload your photo to your Facebook Timeline (or Profile).
2. Loading Multiple Photos from a Computer
Adding pictures directly from your phone is easy and direct, especially when you do not have access to a computer. But sometimes you want to upload several pictures all at once or create a Photo Album of a special event. In this case, it’s best to plug your iPhone into your PC or laptop computer (or any computer with iTunes). Your computer will most likely open up a program that will automatically import all your iPhone photos onto the computer’s hard drive.
Next, use your computer’s web browser to access your Facebook account. Once here, you’ll see Add Photo (or Add Photo / Video) on just about every page you visit. At the top of your News Feed, above all your friends’ and like pages’ posts, it typically looks like this:
Clicking Add Photo / Video gives you a few options:
Inside Photos, you’ll see three tabs: Photos of You (pictures others have taken of you), Photos (all the individual photos you’ve uploaded), and Albums (all of your albums). Click Albums, where you can either Create a New Album or, after clicking on any previous Album, Add Photos. Then select your files and add all pertinent information as described above.

Yes, the big news is that you can conduct group video call in the Messenger app by creating a room. This feature acts as one of the Zoom alternatives as you can invite people to join video chat. Like many other social media platforms, Facebook allows you to create temporary posts called Stories. A Facebook Story can be created from a photo, text on a colored background, a poll, and more. Stories appear in your friends’ feeds as well as in the Stories row at the top of the screen — but you can also control who sees your stories. After 24 hours, your story disappears.
How to post a Facebook Story
1. On the Facebook app on your phone or on the Facebook page in a web browser, select “Create a Story” in the Story row at the top of the page.
- If the “Create a Story” option doesn’t appear on your desktop homepage, click the plus (+) icon beside your account name on the top right of the page, then select “Story” in the “Create” dropdown menu.
2. Choose the type of story you want to add. On the web, you can choose “Create a Photo Story” or “Create a Text Story,” but on your phone, you’ll have additional options:
- To add a photo or video story, tap a photo in the camera roll or take a photo or video using the camera icon at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap “Aa” to add text to your story.
- Tap “Music” to share a song to your story.
- Tap “Boomerang” to take a burst of photos, which then plays forward and backward as a short, looping video.
- Tap “Mood” to choose an image from the GIFs library, to which you can add text and other effects.
- Tap “Selfie” to do exactly that – take a selfie and add emojis and effects.
- Tap “Poll” to create a poll for your friends. You can pose a Yes or No question, or edit the Yes and No so your friends can choose a different response.
3. You can change who your story is shared with. Select the gear icon. On the web, you’ll find it at the top left, next to the Your Story heading. On your phone, it’s in the lower left and labeled “Privacy.” Choose who you want to share your story with, such as “Public,” “Friends,” or “Custom.” If you choose Custom, you can share the story with specific people only. Click “Save.”
4. After you choose the kind of story you want to create and then customize it with text, images, effects and emojis, select “Share to Story.”
How to add a news feed post to your Facebook Story
In addition to the usual kinds of stories, you can add items from your news feed to a story as well. To do that, tap “Share” under a post in your news feed and then choose “Share to Your Story.” Depending upon their privacy level, not all news items can be shared.
By default, photos that you have taken inside Facebook Messenger and photos from your friends will not be saved to the gallery. This is understandable because not all of the photos are worth saving. Save outgoing photos taken by your camera to the Camera Roll:

2. Once the app is loaded, select the Settings tab.

Android (applies to all Android phones):

Currently, it is not possible to save photos taken inside the Messenger app to the gallery automatically. However, once you have sent the photo to a friend, you can always long-press on it and tap Save Image.
Save incoming photos:

What’s New In This Version:
Save photos and videos in the app to your Camera Roll.
You can download Facebook Messenger from the App Store for free.
While Facebook allows you to save videos in your profile (online), I feel it is better to save Facebook videos to the camera roll on my iPhone.
Here is my argument. Once the video is downloaded, I can watch it offline, anytime, and on any device. Even if my Internet connection is slow or non-existent. Another reason is that social media sites are fickle by nature. Let me explain. I have seen the rise and fall of several social media sites who were the Goliath of their times. MySpace, Friendster, and more recently, Google Plus.
If you are anything like me, you would want to save Facebook videos to the camera roll on your iPhone. Let’s take a look at some mobile and web apps that make it possible.
Save Facebook Videos to Camera Roll
1. Screen Recording
Your iPhone has a native screen recording feature, which you can use to record a part of Facebook videos. This is useful in a situation when you just want to record a 2-minute clip of a 5-minute video.
To get started, swipe down from the top right to bring up the Control Center. There you’ll find the screen recording option, (if it’s not there, you might have to add it to your home screen via settings). Next, go to the Facebook video you want to record, open the Control Center, and start recording. Orient the video and adjust the playback time to let it record, and when done open the Control Center again and hit stop recording. This will save the video (along with original audio) in the camera roll.
2. Siri Shortcut
Siri Shortcuts are an easy way to do things that are otherwise tedious and time-consuming. You can find a shortcut for almost anything on the internet or create one of your own. To download Facebook videos, we’d use Facebook Video Downloader, go ahead and install it on your iPhone using this link.
Before we can run the shortcut, we need the Facebook video URL to fetch the video but Facebook has gone to extreme lengths to hide the video URL. Here’s a quick workaround to find the URL. Go ahead and open a video on the Facebook app on your iPhone that you wish to download and tap the Share button on the bottom of the post. You’d see the Share sheet, tap Copy Link from the options.
Now, open Safari or any other web browser and paste the Facebook URL that we just copied. It would look something like the image below. Tap go on the keyboard to load the webpage.
When the page is loaded, you’d see that the URL has been unfurled and the URL bar has the correct URL that the shortcut can understand. Copy this URL to the clipboard.
After copying the Facebook Video URL, simply run the Facebook Video Downloader shortcut from the Shortcuts app.
The shortcut would take a few seconds to fetch the video from the URL provided. Once the Video is fetched, the shortcut would save the video to your iPhone’s Camera Roll automatically. You can open the Photos app and find the video there.
The above method does seem overkill and if you don’t wish to install a Siri Shortcut, you can use this method that just requires you to open a webpage in Safari and download the videos directly.
First, go ahead and find the video that you wish to download from Facebook. Tap the Share button on the bottom right of the post and tap Copy Link.
Once you have the link copied, open the Safari browser and go to https://fbdown.net. After the page has finished loading, paste the Facebook URL in the input field.
After that, simply tap the Download button next to the input field to load the video fetched through that URL.
You’d now see a preview of the video and the available quality of videos that you can download. Simply press and hold the download button and you would get a peek menu, tap “download linked file” to begin the download.
The video would start downloading in the Download manager, after it is finished downloading, tap the video and open the Share menu by tapping the button on the bottom left.
Tap Save Video and you’re done. The video has been saved to the Camera Roll.
4. Third-party app for older iPhones
All of the above methods work great on iPhones running iOS 13 and above but if you have an iPhone that is running on IOS 12 or below, you won’t be able to download videos from Safari directly. That’s why Friendly for Facebook exists. It’s a compact browser designed to let you surf Facebook and download videos with just a tap. To be honest, it’s the easiest method on this list.
Go ahead and install the Friendly Social Browser on your iPhone with this link. Once the app is downloaded on your iPhone, log in to your Facebook account within the app.
Open a video that you wish to download and tap the Download button on the bottom of the post, next to the Share button. It would open a sharing menu, tap the download button next to the video.
It would prompt you to select a location, tap Save to Photos, and allow access to the Photos app. That’s it, your video has been successfully saved to the Camera Roll.

When the camera blinks it only indicates that the ‘Instant Video’ function is active and therefore our interlocutor wants to show us something from the camera. And then if you have the photographic camera disabled for Facebook Messenger you can still receive the message.
Interference or security
The camera low-cal will blink and this will be done as a way to tell you that you accept an incoming video phone call. But this example tin can also occur when for some foreign reason there is some interference, by some other application or external ways.

How to Use Video Chat on Facebook Messenger on Mobile
If you’re on an Android device, you can download the Messenger app directly from the Google Play Store. Apple provides the Messenger app for the iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch through the Apple App Store.
Once the app is installed on your smartphone or tablet, open it and tap the search bar to find the contact with whom you want to video chat. If you’ve previously sent messages to or called friends in Messenger, they’ll appear below the search bar.

When you’re in the call, you’ll see your friend or family member in the center of the screen and yourself at the top right. The buttons at the top, from left to right, allow you to open a chat, broadcast your video chat to an available device, switch between the rear- and front-facing cameras, or disable your camera.

Messenger, an instant messaging service owned by Facebook, launched in August 2011, replacing Facebook Chat. You can use Messenger without a Facebook account, so it’s available for individuals who haven’t signed up or have closed down their account. While the two are partially connected when you have a Facebook account, you aren’t required to have one.
How to Access Facebook Messenger
Messenger can be used in conjunction with Facebook on your computer, at Messenger.com, or by accessing the mobile app on Android and iOS devices. Because Messenger works on iPhones, it also works on the Apple Watch.
You can also install add-ons in some browsers for faster access to Messenger. They’re not official Facebook apps. They’re third-party extensions that non-Facebook developers released for free. For example, Firefox users can install the Messenger for Facebook add-on to put Messenger on the side of their screens and use it while on other websites, in a split-screen fashion.
Send Text, Pictures, and Video
At its core, Messenger is a texting app for both one-on-one and group messaging, but it can also send images and video. It also includes lots of built-in emojis, stickers, and GIFs.
Some useful features included in Messenger is its indicator to see when a person is typing, delivered receipts, read receipts, and a timestamp for when the message was sent, with another for when the recipient read the most recent one.
Much like on Facebook, Messenger lets you react to messages on both the website and app.
Another great thing about sharing images and videos through Messenger is that the app and website collect all the media files so you can quickly sift through them.
If you’re using Messenger with your Facebook account, any private Facebook message appears in it. You can delete these texts as well as archive and unarchive them to hide or unhide them from constant view.
Facebook added the ability to swipe to archive chats quickly in May 2021. You can also find your archived conversations by going to your profile > Archived chats.
Make Voice or Video Calls
Messenger also supports audio and video calls from the mobile app, the desktop version, and the Facebook site. The phone icon is for audio calls, while the camera icon makes face-to-face video calls. If you’re using Messenger’s calling features on Wi-Fi, you can use the app or website to make free internet calls.
You can send money to people via Messenger using just your debit card information. You can do this from both the website and the mobile app.
To use it, go into a conversation, open the menu, then select Send Money. You can choose to either send money or ask for it. Alternatively, you can send a text with a price in it and then select it to open the prompt to pay or request payment. You can even add a short memo to the transaction so you can remember its purpose.
Messenger lets you play games within the app or via the website, even while in a group message. You don’t have to download another app or visit another site to start playing with other Messenger users.
Share Your Location
Instead of using a dedicated app to show someone where you are, you can let recipients follow your location for up to an hour with Messenger’s built-in location-sharing feature, which only works from the mobile app.
Facebook Messenger Features
Although Messenger doesn’t have a calendar, it does let you create event reminders through the Reminders button on the mobile app. Another neat way to do it is to send a message that contains a reference to a day, and the app automatically asks you if you want to make a reminder. Like many other apps, Facebook Messenger has a dark mode.
The name of a group message can be customized, as can the nickname of the people involved. The color theme of each conversation thread can be modified as well.
Audio clips can be sent through Messenger if you’d like to send a message without having to text or make a full audio call. You can even tap-and-record when creating it instead of holding your finger down on the mic icon if you want to go hands-free.
Notifications can be silenced on a per-conversation basis for a specified number of hours or completely turned off, both for the desktop version of Messenger and through the mobile app.
Add new Messenger contacts by inviting contacts from your phone or, if you’re on Facebook, your Facebook friends. There’s also a custom Scan Code you can grab from within the app and share with others, who can then scan your code to add you to their Messenger instantly.

One of the more annoying things about Facebook has got to be the diminished quality of photos and videos you upload to the service, be it via iOS’s Facebook integration integration or through the official mobile app for the iPhone and iPad, a free download in the App Store.
For whatever reason, Facebook’s mobile app defaults to low-resolution photo and video uploads, likely in an effort to minimize bandwidth usage in this digital age of capped cellular data.
Fortunately, there is an easy yet not immediately obvious way to configure Facebook for iPhone and iPad to record and upload videos and photos in glorious high-definition.
How to enable HD uploads for video through iOS
Step 1: Launch Settings on your device and tap on Facebook in the section with Twitter, Flickr and Vimeo integration.
Step 2: On the next screen, hit the Settings button below the Facebook logo and just above your account name.
Tip: If the Setting option is not present there, you must download the official mobile app, launch it and log in to Facebook within the app.
Step 3: Toggle the Upload HD button in the Video section to the ON position. Both iOS and the mobile app will now default to uploading high-definition video. Again, that toggle won’t be visible if you rely on iOS’s built-in Facebook integration but don’t use the official app.
Sadly, iOS’s Facebook integration doesn’t allow you to enable high-definition photo uploads through the Settings app. For that, you must use Facebook’s official mobile app, as described further below.
How to enable HD uploads for video and photos through mobile app
Step 1: Launch Facebook for iPhone and iPad.
Step 2: Tap the More button in the bottom right corner of the interface.
Step 3: Scroll all the way down and tap on Settings.
Step 4: A sheet pops up asking if you’d like to access your Account Settings, News Feed Preferences or Activity Log. Tap on Account Settings to continue.
Step 5: Tap on Videos and Photos on the next screen.
Step 6: Flip the Upload HD button in both the Video Settings and Photo Settings sections to the ON position.
That’s it. You’ve now ensured that posting photos/videos through the mobile app happens in high-definition so your snaps and videos will look sharp to others on Facebook.
Tip: If you disable the Upload HD option for video in iOS’s Settings app, its counterpart in the mobile app gets flipped to the OFF position, too, and vice versa.
HD uploads and bandwidth concerns
Needless to say, HD videos produce larger file sizes so you’ll wait longer for the transfer to finish. More importantly, HD upload might be particularly concerning for people who are on a metered cellular plan.
To avoid unwanted charges on your monthly wireless bill, ensure that you’re on Wi-Fi before posting high-resolution video on Facebook.
Also, consider temporarily disabling iOS 9’s new feature called Wi-Fi Assist that automatically switches to your carrier’s data network if your Wi-Fi connection is poor, even if cellular data is disabled in Setting.
Recommended video settings
If you’re planning on exporting your video from editing software such as Final Cut Pro X or iMovie, Facebook recommends the following custom settings for best results:
- H.264 video with AAC audio in MOV or MP4 format
- An aspect ratio no larger than 1280px wide and divisible by 16px
- A frame rate at, or below, 30fps
- Stereo audio with a sample rate of 44,100hz
Videos shared on Facebook must be less than 45 minutes long and smaller than 1.75 gigabytes. The longer your video is, the larger its file size will be and this “may affect the quality of the video,” according to Facebook.
Go here for the complete list of supported video formats on Facebook.
And as mentioned before, iOS’s Facebook integration lacks the option to turn on high-resolution photo uploads so best thing you enable HD uploads for both photos and video directly in the mobile Facebook app.
Posting photos and videos to Facebook through mobile app
To upload a photo or video to Facebook, open the mobile app and tap Photo at the top of your News Feed, or Share Photo at the top of your Timeline.
Select the videos and photos you want to upload and tap Done. Optionally choose who can see your post, tag friends, add a location and write a custom message.
Hit the Post button to publish your media on Facebook.
Your video must be processed on Facebook’s servers before others can see it on the service. When it’s ready to view, you’ll receive a notification.
If a video has been shared as Public, the number of views will be displayed below the video, but only on videos posted after September 8, 2014. When you post a video on Facebook as a Page you manage, you can see other metrics about video viewing behavior from a desktop computer.
Posting photos and videos on Facebook through iOS
iOS’s built-in Facebook integration lets you upload photos or videos to the service from any app, including Apple’s stock Photos app, via the multi-purpose Share menu.
As shown on the screenshot above, posting photos and videos in my Camera roll to Facebook is a cinch. I just select desired photos and/or videos in the Photos app and choose the Facebook option in the Share menu.

If you send a lot of photos back and forth in messages, you may be wondering how you can save them all to your iPhone or iPad for later use, backups, sharing along, or whatever else.
It turns out that all the photos and videos that are shared over iMessage are not saved to your iOS or iPadOS photo library. Therefore, in order to make sure you don’t lose the photos you’ve received (especially if you plan on deleting a messages thread), you’ll need to save these photos to your iPhone or iPad library.
Scrolling through days or weeks of conversations to find that one photo you want to save is such a tedious process. However, there’s a neat trick to view all the attachments shared in a messages thread and then easily save just the photos you want. Once these photos are saved to your photo library on the iPhone or iPad, you won’t lose them even if you delete your iMessage conversations.
Let’s check out this neat tricks to view and save all your iMessage media, and you’ll be saving photos and videos from Messages to your device in no time.
How to Save All Photos from Messages on iPhone & iPad
Finding a bunch of photos to save out of all the media you’ve sent and received through the Messages app is easier than you think:
- Open the default “Messages” app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Open the Messages thread from where you’re trying to save pictures.
Next, tap on the contact’s name as shown in the screenshot below.
Next, tap on the contact’s name as shown in the screenshot below.
Here, scroll down and tap on “See All Photos”. This option is located right below the thumbnails.
Now, you’ll be able to browse through all the photos you’ve sent and received in that particular thread. Screenshots are filtered out and included as a separate category, making it a lot easier to find the photos you want to save. Tap on “Select” to enter the selection menu.
Now, simply tap on all the photos that you want to save to your photo library. Once you’re done with the selection, tap on “Save” located at the bottom.
If you just want to save one photo, open it and then tap on the “share”icon at the bottom-left corner.
This will bring up the iOS share sheet. Choose “Save Image” to save it to your photo library.
That’s pretty much all there is to it.
You’ll now be able to view all the photos you’ve saved in the Photos app.
Repeat the procedure to save photos from other iMessage threads too.
This is particularly important if you plan on deleting the photos from the messages threads or deleting the entire messages threads to save space on your phone, or for privacy purposes, or for any other reason.
If you send and receive a lot of pictures over iMessage, you could follow similar steps to delete all the media in a Messages thread and potentially free up a chunk of storage space too.
In the selection menu, you won’t be able to use the swipe gesture for quick selection like you’d normally do within the Photos app. Instead, you will have to tap on each and every photo individually, which can be a chore if you have lots of photos to save.
If you use iMessage on a Mac, you’ll be able to access all your attachments in Messages app by using the macOS Finder at the file system level and move them to a different location, if necessary.
We hope you were able to conveniently save all the attachments shared via iMessage using the method we discussed here. Do you think it’d be useful to just automatically save iMessage video and photos to a separate album in the Photos app? Perhaps that will come in the future, but for now you can manually save your photos and videos from iMessage this way instead.
If you have any helpful tricks, alternate approaches, interesting thoughts, opinions, or experiences with saving pictures from your Messages, let us know in the comments!

Steps for Sending Pictures From Your Phone to Facebook
Many of today’s phones fall into the smartphone category, and these devices can use applications, or apps. If that describes your phone (an iPhone, Android-based phone, Blackberry or other model), be sure to download the Facebook app. It lets you upload photos and engage with many other features of the site, too, including status updates, notifications and even chatting.
After you download and install the app, take a picture with your phone’s camera. Once the image appears, you should see an option that allows you to share the picture directly to Facebook. You can add a caption to the image and, in some versions of the app, you may even be able to tag (name) the people in the photograph.
There’s another way to upload images, so long as you can send e-mails with picture attachments. Point your browser to Facebook.com/mobile and find the “upload via e-mail” address. This is a personalized e-mail address provided solely for your Facebook account. As such, you should keep it totally private and not share it with anyone; otherwise, other people could use it to post photos to your account.
Save this e-mail address to your contacts. Then, take a picture and choose the option that lets you share it through a new e-mail. Send the picture to your personalized Facebook address, and the image will pop up in your “mobile uploads” album — and in your status updates, too.
Because these types of technologies continually sprout new capabilities and copy-cats, there will always be alternative ways to achieve the same results. As of this writing, there were rumors of a brand new Facebook app — designed specifically for photo-sharing — for Apple’s iPhone. The few details available regarding this app pointm to a lot of ramped-up features, including multi-user albums, tagging, filters and much more [source: Siegler].
So, if you can’t get enough Facebook, and you can’t stop snapping pictures with your phone, the future is a bright one, indeed. Your phone will let you blast a continuous stream of images to all of your friends at high speed for years to come.

The Messages app has changed the way users access all photos from within a message conversation. No longer can you simply tap on the camera button to access your photos library from Messages, in iOS 13 and iOS 12 you will instead access your photos from the app icon drawer within the Messages app on iPhone or iPad. This is a subtle change that is somewhat controversial given that it makes selecting photos a bit slower in Messages for iOS 12, but once you learn how the process works you’ll find it’s not particularly difficult.
We’ll show you exactly how to access all photos and your iPhone or iPad photo library from within the Messages app of iOS 13 and iOS 12 so that you can easily share pictures, photos, and videos as usual.
How to Access All Photos from Messages with iOS 13 and iOS 12 on iPhone and iPad
The easiest way to access all photos to send one from Messages app in iOS 12 is as follows:
- Open the Messages app and open any message conversation or thread
- Tap the “(A)” App Store button, it looks like an A made out of popsicle sticks
Now tap the Photos button, it looks like a color wheel
This will reveal a “Recent Photos” panel, now tap the blue “All Photos” text which is a button
Select the photo(s) you want to attach to the message from your Photos app as usual, whether from Camera Roll, Favorites, Videos, Selfies, Screenshots, Recently Added, or any other photos album in iOS
That’s the simplest way to access Photos from Messages in iOS 12, and the trick is the same on iPhone and iPad.
If you regularly hide the Messages drawer of app icons in iOS you’ll need to get used to showing it first again before you can access Photos to send and share with other users through Messages.
Accessing All Photos in iOS 12 Messages via Camera
Another option is available, but it’s likely not faster for most users.
Similar to the above approach, open Messages and go to any message thread. Now this time, choose the Camera button, and then tap the photos button within the top corner of the active Camera app.
That will also bring up the Photos library browser for you to select a picture to send or share via Messages in iOS 12.
For most users, the Photos icon approach is faster, but the camera icon approach may work for others too, so use what works best for you.
Of course you can also still access and share photos directly from the Photos app too.
If you know of any other method or approach to accessing Photos from Messages in iOS 12 on an iPhone or iPad, share with us in the comments below!

Welcome to the quick tip series to deal with too many photos, too little time! Take these small steps during your metro commute to work, coffee break and alike… and make a big difference to overcome your digital photo chaos! Today we are talking about how to stop auto-saving your Instagram photos to your phone’s camera roll.
Are you a frequent Instagram user? Then probably your Instagram photos and videos are cluttering your camera roll and clogging up your phone memory. And in the end, do you really want to keep a copy of them in your photo collection?
I have some phone setting tips for iPhone and Android users to stop auto-save of Instagram photos on your camera roll, see and to decide what works best for you. And note that you can always download your Instagram photos and save them in a dedicated folder – check my blog post on this better organised solution.
How do you take and share your Instagram photos?
There two ways you take and post photos on Instagram:
- You take a photo or a video from your native camera app on your phone and then share it through the Instagram app. In this case, the original is kept in your camera roll. Once you edit and post it through the Instagram app, you can choose whether or not to keep this new version.
- You directly take a photo or video from Instagram app’s camera , edit and post it from there. The image quality will be less than what you have with your native camera, but for many users, it should be just enough. If you’re using the Instagram app’s camera, you can choose to save original version and/or new version. Or not to save anything at all.
Instagram photo saving settings on iPhone
Go to your Instagram app, click on the top right menu and click on Settings at the bottom.
Among the options you see, select Original Photos.
When you turn off Save Original Photos, photos you take with your Instagram app’s camera will not be saved on your iPhone’s camera roll anymore.
However once you post it, that version will still be saved on the camera roll.
You want to get rid of original photo saving feature? Then go to your general device settings, go to Instagram and select Photos.
Here’s what you need to decide:
- When you select Never, Instagram will not be able to read and write from your camera roll. So, it won’t allow Instagram to save posted photos to the camera roll. If you use Instagram app’s camera and don’t want to save any photos, this is your option.
- If you want to use your phone’s native camera app and post photos to Instagram from there, then you need to select Read and Write. But then be aware that both original and posted photos will again be saved on your camera roll.
Note that even if your iPhone saves the photos you post on Instagram, you can always manually delete them from Instagram album under your Photos app.
Instagram photo saving settings on Android
Go to your Instagram app, click on the top right menu and click on Settings at the bottom.
- If you turn off Save Original posts, photos you take with Instagram app’s camera will not be saved on your iPhone’s camera roll. Remember, if you take your photos with your native camera app of your phone and share by Instagram, the original photo is always in your camera roll.
- If you turn off Save posted photos and Save posted videos: photos and videos you post on Instagram will not be saved on your Android devices camera roll.
