Amtrak, now servicing 500 locations in 46 states and three Canadian provinces, raises its ridership each year. The benefits above air or car travel, from saving time to reducing tension, have become clear in several areas within the United States, particularly inside the Northeast Corridor where the heaviest ridership is out and in New York City. On these shorter jaunts connecting Metropolitan Areas within the New England and Mid Atlantic States, there might definitely be a substantial savings in time, particularly in light of the terminals being near the town centers, as opposed to airports by necessity located quite a distance from downtown areas. They can save you money when you are traveling to Disney World By Orlando, or for that matter whenever you’re looking for What To Do In Florida.
The true question mark while evaluating modes of travel is cost, due to the widespread price ranges of travel tickets these days. As gas costs continue to increase, and over the extended-term will continue to do so, and parking becomes prohibitively priced, it is no longer considered automatic that auto travel is cheapest. Comparing airline tickets to Amtrak tickets, nothing can be generalized. That is where Amtrak coupon codes may make the distinction. Amtrak coupon codes offer a wide selection of discount rates on Amtrak tickets when making purchases online. Just enter the four digit alphanumeric code in the promotion code box during the online reservation procedure. Additionally they might be used when ordering over the telephone, ordering personally at the station, or through the Quik-Trak machine.
Who is eligible for Amtrak coupon codes discounts? Listed here are a few:
- * AAA Members- 10% off with card.
- * NARP Members- 10% off with card.
- * Veterans- 15% off with Veteran Advantage card.
- * Seniors- 15% off for passengers over 62.
- * Children- 50% off ages 2-15, under two ride free.
- * Group discounts- as much as 20% off for groups of 20 or more.
- * Military- 10% off for active duty, plus spouses and dependents.
These are just a few of the methods you can take advantage of Amtrak Coupon Codes. Furthermore, their guest reward’s plan is a great way to earn points towards upgraded fares, complimentary train tickets, and more. In addition, weekly specials and other varieties Amtrak Coupon Codes offer a variety of added promotions. Merely subsequent to choosing a particular promotion, click the “book it now” in the right hand column to activate it.
In view of travel trends in several areas of the world, train travel is taking over a larger importance in travel choices. In heavily populated metropolitan areas within the United States it’s becoming a more viable option yearly, and the Federal Government has expressed a wish to invest more funds in rail infrastructure. With Amtrak Coupon Codes helping defray the costs of Amtrak tickets, all travelers should consider this as an option.

Watching the scenery go by out the window by day and snuggling into sleep to the sound of wheels on tracks by night is a pleasant way to see the country. Amtrak offers discounts on short-hop train trips, weekend getaways and cross-country hauls. Finding the best fare takes a little bit of planning and a dose of research.
USA and California Rail Passes
Amtrak’s rail passes, available in 15-, 30- and 45-day increments, allow discounted travel to any of 500 destinations, with some limitations. Fifteen-day passes are limited to eight trip legs, or segments, as Amtrak calls them. Passengers with 30-day passes can travel on 12 legs, and 45-day passes are good for 18 legs. Even with the purchase of a rail pass, travelers must make reservations and pick up paper tickets for each segment of the trip. Passes can be purchased online, but you must make reservations by calling 800-USA-RAIL. Keep in mind that rail passes are not meant for commuters. Passengers are limited to four one-way trips between two cities, and only tickets for the cheapest seats available on the segment are allowed.
California rail passes are good for certain Amtrak routes including the Capitol Corridor, San Joaquins and Pacific Surfliner, as well as part of the Coast Starlight route. Thruway bus service to some cities in California, and to Reno and Las Vegas, is also included. Trains originating outside California, like the Sunset Limited and the Southwest Chief, are not included.
Amtrak Ticket Deals
Amtrak runs limited-time-only deals year-round on most of its routes. SmartFares with 30 percent discounts on one-way coach fares for select trains are available only at Amtrak.com from Tuesday through Friday every week. For considerable savings, consider seasonal specials. For example, with advance notice, there’s a 50-percent-off companion fare for a trip on the Lake Shore Limited, and in the fall there are reduced fares for parents and students traveling to campuses. Note that, with most of these specials, travel is restricted to certain dates and times.
If you travel frequently with Amtrak, sign up for their guest rewards program. Rewards can be used for train travel, hotel discounts and gift cards.
Sign up for email promotions on the Amtrak website, or download the Amtrak app for your smartphone. The app allows you to purchase eTickets, shows train status and provides station information.
Standard Discounts for Amtrak Trains
Kids from two through 12 years of age ride for half price in coach when traveling with an adult. Babies ride for free, but aren’t guaranteed a seat. The discount doesn’t apply to weekday Acela trains, upgraded seats in business or first class, or sleeping accommodations.
Passengers 62 years of age or older can expect a 15-percent discount on the lowest fare on most trains. The discount is 10 percent on Amtrak trains jointly operated with VIA Rail in Canada. Discounts can’t be combined with Saver Fares and don’t apply to upgraded seats or to Thruway connecting service.
AAA members receive a 10-percent discount if they book coach seating three days in advance, with some limitations. The discount can’t be combined with Saver Fares and is not valid in Canada or on Thruway connecting buses.
The 10-percent discount for military personnel carries the same limitations on routes and fares. Frequent travelers should sign up for the Veterans Advantage VetRewards Card to get a 15-percent discount on most fares. Discounts are also available for government employees.
Disabled passengers and their companion travelers are eligible for a 15-percent discount.

If you’re thinking of an alternative to flying to your summer vacation spot, consider Amtrak. The railroad passenger company operates more than 300 trains daily to hundreds of destinations in the U.S. and Canada. There’s a good chance an Amtrak station is located where you’re headed.
If you’re ready to climb aboard, here’s everything you need to know about getting the most bang for your buck.
Before you ride, join Amtrak Guest Rewards . Joining is free, and you’ll get 500 bonus points when you take a trip within the first 90 days your account is open. You’ll also earn 2 points for every dollar spent on Amtrak travel. If you prefer to travel business or first class on high-speed Acela trains, which operate in the Northeast, you’ll get a 25% point bonus on the former and a 50% bonus on the latter.
Earn points through partners
You can also rack up Amtrak Guest Reward when you spend money at hotels, car rental companies and other retailers Amtrak has partnered with. A few examples:
Book a stay at one of Choice Hotel’s more than 6,800 locations and you’ll earn 250 Amtrak points.
Rent a car through Budget and you’ll earn 50 Amtrak Guest Rewards points for every qualifying rental day.
Send your loved one some flowers using Teleflora and you’ll add 750 Amtrak Guest Rewards points to your account.
Redeem points for trips
Once you have plenty of Amtrak Guest Rewards points stockpiled, get the most out of them by redeeming for Amtrak trips. Redemption rates vary by route, date and time, but you can save a ton if you combine your points with special promotions.
Parents, take note of Amtrak’s child discount , which allows infants under 2 to travel for free and additional children under 12 to travel for a 50% discount.
Travel when it’s not as busy
You can often score a discount by planning your trips on less busy days. For example, Amtrak recently held a sale in which — as long as you traveled on Saturday — you could buy one ticket and get the next one free. A two-passenger Saturday ticket from New York to Boston was a mere $83.
Bring a friend or three
Amtrak wants you to bring some friends along for your summer vacation. Its Share Fare deal gets you a discount for every plus-one. Here’s the breakdown:
Passenger 1: Full price.
Passenger 2: 15% off full price.
Passenger 3: 60% off full price.
Passenger 4: 70% off full price.
That’s a lot of potential savings. Pick up the phone and call some people who not only appreciate the scenic appeal of Amtrak, but also love a good deal.
If you’re taking Acela, book early
Acela trains, which operate between Washington, D.C., and Boston, offer large leather seats, fast Wi-Fi and luggage storage for up to four bags. While Acela travel typically costs more than other trains, you can score a discount if you simply plan your trip in advance. Book a ticket on the Acela a minimum of 7 to 21 days prior to your trip, and you’ll get a 25% discount.

Amtrak is the most popular national train system in America. It’s one means of travel that you can use. At times the ticket prices can seem a bit expensive. There are some things that you can do to make sure that you save some money so that you can get your travel at discounted price.
First of all just like most means of travel be sure that you book as early as possible. If you book two weeks or more in advance, typically you get a cheaper rate. Alternatively if you get non-refundable tickets, these are normally a bit cheaper as well. Of course there is risk here, but if you are sure you are going on the trip, it’s an option to consider.
Check on multiple days to leave and come back. At times by leaving on a different day or coming back on a different day you can get much different prices. When planning a trip consider different dates for your trip to see if you can get a better rate.
With Amtrak it’s typical to find online discount codes that can help you get your tickets cheaper. Before booking your ride be sure to check for discount codes.
Get an Amtrak savings card. These are typically a one time fee that will give you a discount on all rides for a whole year. Generally speaking this pays for itself on the first trip that you take.
At times planning a longer distance trip is cheaper. Don’t only look for tickets to the destination you are going to but look at tickets for rides that go behind your destination. At times the longer trips are cheaper. Simply get off the train at your preferred destination and don’t travel the whole way.
Be sure to bring your own food on your trip. The food on the train will be very expensive compared to just packing things on your own.

Ride up to 10 segments for $299
Exploring the United States by train and taking the time to enjoy the incredible views is something that many people dream about. Now you have the perfect excuse to plan your own train adventure. Amtrak is discounting its USA Rail Pass by $200, making it available for $299 per person.
What exactly is the USA Rail Pass? It lets passengers ride up to 10 segments over 30 days in coach seating, hopping on and off at 500 Amtrak destinations. This discounted pass is available through June 22, 2021. After that date, the price will go back up to $499 per person.
A segment occurs any time you board and disembark a train. For example, if your trip involves making one connection, you will use two segments of your USA Rail Pass. You can travel with others, but each person will need a rail pass or train ticket to join you.
At just under $30 per segment, this pass offers riders a great opportunity to see more of the country by train while traveling to their next travel destination.
How to buy a discounted rail pass
To take advantage of this offer, visit the Amtrak website. There, you can book your pass and sort out your travel plans later. The pass is valid for 120 days after purchase and 30 days after the first segment is traveled. So make sure that you map out an itinerary and timeline and put your pass to good use.
There are no blackout dates, but there are some restrictions — so be sure to read the full terms and conditions before buying a pass.
If you want to make it easier to plan your travels, Amtrak also has a mobile app. You can use the app to plan your trip, access your ticket, and get boarding information.
When buying your USA Rail Pass, be sure to use a travel rewards credit card. When you use a travel card for your purchase, you can earn rewards on your purchases. As you collect more points, you can redeem them for cash back or free travel.
Other ways to save on your next trip
If you’re looking for other ways to save on your next getaway, here are some suggestions that can help you trim your travel costs.
- Set a budget. Having a budget can allow you to take a great trip while keeping your personal finances in check. Set your budget and plan around it.
- Plan as early as possible. So many other people are traveling right now, which means travel dates are booked up and prices are high. The sooner you book, the cheaper your trip costs will be.
- Consider alternate rental car solutions. If you need a rental car during your trip, consider alternatives like car-sharing services to save money.
- Compare the cost of hotels vs. home rentals. There are many accommodations to choose from, and comparing prices can help you find a better deal.
- Redeem your travel rewards. If you have a travel credit card, you may already have enough points to redeem. Check to see if you have enough points to cover your hotel stays, or consider redeeming your points for restaurant gift cards or a statement credit.
Now is an excellent time to finally book that cross-country train trip that you’ve been meaning to take. Make sure you grab your Amtrak USA Rail Pass before the discounted offer ends and start planning out the rest of your trip details.

Whether you are traveling for business or pleasure, the network of Amtrak railways has plenty of routes available across the United States, and some spectacular scenery to enjoy along many routes too. However, many people do get frustrated with trains that don’t always run on schedule, and the prices of tickets aren’t always the cheapest either, and while there won’t usually be much you can do about when the train will run, there are plenty of things you can do to make your journey cheaper and more comfortable.
Check All of the Discounts Available
There are a wealth of different discounts available for those who travel on Amtrak, and while some are available for members of certain organizations, others are simply discounts for certain parts of the population. Those who are students, international students, military veterans or seniors are eligible for discounts, while there are also discounts for disabled travelers too, with 10-15% off for all these people. Members of the American Automobile Association (AAA) get 10% off tickets, while members of the National Association of Rail Passengers (NARP) get the same discount.
See If Buying Guest Reward Points Is Cheaper Than Buying a Ticket
The Amtrak Guest Reward Points scheme is run through a website that you can get to through the main Amtrak site. However, as well as saving reward points from your journeys, the website has the option to buy guest reward points. The intended purpose is to allow you to top up your reward points for a particular journey, but always check the price in points against the price in dollars, as in some cases it can be cheaper to buy the points and redeem for your ticket rather than to buy the ticket for your trip!
Book Your Tickets Early
The general rule for buying tickets for Amtrak is that the prices will generally increase the closer that you get to the date of the journey, so buy your tickets as soon as you are certain when you will be traveling. It is also worth keeping an eye on journey prices after purchasing your tickets, as if you do see the price go down, Amtrak will generally adjust your fare with the difference.
Leave Your Luggage at the Station
Unless you are boarding at a small railway stop, most large stations will have somewhere to store luggage, and you can leave your luggage at the station up to 24 hours before the train departs. This is perfect if you want to enjoy the last day of your trip, and are returning home, but don’t want to spend the day carrying your bags around.
Save Money on Food During Your Journey
In terms of cost, the dining car is generally the most expensive place to buy food on the train, with the snack cafe offering cheaper food, but one great tip is that they will give you free hot water if you want to bring instant noodles or soup with you to eat. There is also no problem with bringing luggage with you, so adding a cool-box with a picnic and snacks for the journey is one great way to save money.
Gaining Discounts as a Regular Traveler
If you are regularly using Amtrak for your trips, whether they are for business or pleasure, it is well worth using an Amtrak Guest Reward Points account to build up points that you can then use for free journeys. It is also worth getting the Amtrak Guest Rewards credit card, which will allow you to accumulate points on spending on your day to day expenses, while you will also get a healthy points bonus simply for registering for the card.
Sleeping Well Without the Sleeping Quarters
The cabins or roomettes to be found on Amtrak trains are a little more expensive than the usual seats, but you will sometimes find that upgrades can be quite inexpensive if you speak to the staff on the train. However, remember that even if you’re not in the sleeping quarters you can still get some sleep, so bring a blanket and a travel pillow. Most people find that the seats in the observation cars will often have a little more space to relax and stretch out and fewer people there at night, and are a good place to catch a few hours of sleep.
Ask the Staff for Their Tips
Make friends with the staff on the train, they are there to help you and if you tell them what you want, such as a break to stretch your legs or you ask where you can nip out to buy hot food, they will let you know which towns have a stop where you can do that. The staff will also have their own experiences, so ask them for their tips and they’ll often have a few good ideas for you too.
