I only use Facebook as an alternative to OpenID but sometimes need to send a private message to someone I’m not friend with.
I checked the “Sending a Message” page on Facebook, which says:
Start typing a name or email address into the To field. Names of friends and other people you know will appear in a dropdown
How can I find the name or email address? I didn’t find this on someone’s FB page, and just copy/pasting the FB name doesn’t work:
Do I need to be friend with someone before being able to send them a private e-mail?

Seems like mcdonaldsfrance is a page. You can send message to any user or page (if it’s enabled in their privacy options) with this URL:
For example, for McDonald’s France the URL will be: https://www.facebook.com/messages/mcdonaldsfrance . From here, you can send messages to this page—as far as I can see, this page allows messages.
The method you are trying to use is for friends only!
Short version: The bottomline is this: You can only send message to “friends”, that is, people already on your contact list. When you open the message composition screen and start typing a contact’s name, a dropdown will show up for you to pick a name.
Long version: Actually, you can send messages to friends of friends and/or to people who have configured their privacy settings accordingly. But if you are not a friend of them, it goes to an obscure folder called “others” and no notifications is shown to the recipient, therefore it usually goes ignored.
Another shortcut for sending message to users is visiting their profile page and pressing the “message” button on the top of the profile. If you can’t see the message button, then you can’t send that person a message
Pages can also receive messages, but the page owner has to configure this option, and if I recall correctly you have to first “like” the page. Again, to see if you can send a page a message, check for the button on the top.

You can now choose to sort by Trending, which boosts votes that have happened recently, helping to surface more up-to-date answers.
Trending is based off of the highest score sort and falls back to it if no posts are trending.
To get access to messages (the chat ones) u have to have the read_mailbox extended permission (i think) and do like:
Facebook does not allow the SDK to send private messages to prevent misuse by spammers
this is how to display inbox using c#,asp.net:
This is for sending messages ..
Using the Facebook C# SDK (http://facebooksdk.codeplex.com)
That will post a message to the current user’s wall. You can also post images using that SDK. There are samples in the tests on how to do that. Note, if you meant that you wanted to sent them a private message rather than post on their wall that is not possible. Facebook does not allow applications to send messages directly to users.
Facebook doesn’t want you figuring out how to send an anonymous message on Facebook Messenger.
Don’t bother figuring out how to send an anonymous message on Facebook Messenger.
In fact, stop racking your brains over how to stay anonymous on Facebook Messenger at all.
Here’s why those solutions for sending anonymous Facebook messages don’t work, and what alternatives you can consider.
How to send anonymous messages on Facebook Messenger.. or not
Can I Create a fake profile to send anonymous Facebook messages?
Many people are already doing this – so many in fact, that Facebook complained that it had removed nearly as many false accounts as real ones in just the first quarter of 2019. В
Facebook has been increasingly stricter towards fake profiles
Facebook also claims that most fake profiles are shut down mere minutes after they are created, and apparently 99.8% of fake profiles were flagged by Facebook itself. В
Don’t even think of jumping onto the fake account bandwagon. It’s a clear violation of Facebook’s rules, and a permanent strike with the ban hammer if you get caught. В
About the anonymous email-to-Facebook trick
Another solution that many sites frequently recommend is to:
- Log in to your Facebook account
- Look up the username of the person you want to message
- Copy his or her username
- Paste the username and add @facebook.com in the To box
- Hit Send
Using an anonymous email to message someone on Facebook may have worked in the past, but not anymore.
Unfortunately, the anonymous email-to-Facebook trick no longer works
At worse, it may also be possible that someone is trying to get you to message an email that redirects elsewhere.
We highly recommend avoiding this method for your personal data privacy.
What about third-party integrations that claim to let me send anonymous Facebook messages?
To date, there is no verified service, app or browser extension that can integrate with Facebook Messenger and let you send messages on the app anonymously.
Any site that claims otherwise should immediately be treated with caution. Avoid any site that offers you this service in exchange for personally identifiable information.
And if you think Profoundly.me proves us wrong, think again.
You’re not really anonymous on Profoundly.me
While you can send “anonymous” messages with Profoundly.me, the app already knows who you are the whole time even if you choose to post questions anonymously. Anonymity here is more of a social gimmick than a data privacy feature.
Here are some alternatives for sending anonymous messages
The solutions for how to send an anonymous message on Facebook Messenger either don’t work, or pose a risk to your data privacy.
If you need to send anonymous messages, try these methods instead.
Alternative 1: Use VoIP providers
Lots of messaging apps today boast end-to-end encryption and other privacy features.
Both WhatsApp and Telegram also come with the self-destructing message feature, which automatically deletes messages sent to a person or group after a set time interval.
Cybersecurity experts have uncovered privacy issues with both WhatsApp and Telegram
Still, do note that VoIP providers are not completely anonymous.
Fresh revelations of WhatsApp spyware in light of Amazon CEO Jeff Bezo’s phone getting hacked have put WhatsApp in a really bad spot.
Other apps like Telegram also possess certain design flaws that leave your mobile identity completely out in the open.
Other VoIP providers allow voice verification, which means a phone number isn’t necessary to use these apps. Unfortunately, using voice verification with a Google Voice account leaves a clear digital trail to your online identity – not great if you’re looking for perfect anonymity.
Alternative 2: Send Anonymous messages with a burner phone number
A better way for sending anonymous messages is to use a burner phone number instead.
Burner phone numbers are truly anonymous because:
- they are readily disposable and untraceable
- unlike online messaging services or apps, they cannot be hacked
- you are in control of your privacy, not others.
To do just that, simply get started with Phoner.
It’s the most intuitive solution. Fake phone numbers hide your true phone number without the need for you to get a second phone or brand new SIM card.
Even if one fake number is being traced, simply get another fake phone number on Phoner.
Getting a new phone number on Phoner takes you less than 5 minutes, and your new phone number starts working instantly without any need for setup.
This is perfect for small businesses, and helps deter persistent stalkers and spies.
Start sending anonymous messages today
Protecting your phone number and online privacy is important, and knowing how to send anonymous messages is a great first step in the right direction.
It’s unfortunate that Facebook still wouldn’t allow anonymous messages on Facebook Messenger, and we’ll just have to make do with alternatives for now.
Besides, with Facebook’s controversial take on user privacy, can we ever be sure that Facebook messages are truly ever private?
Facebook and privacy have never gone hand in hand.
And that’s our take on how to send an anonymous message on Facebook Messenger. Stay safe by sending messages anonymously today!
Whether you’re a business owner looking to share important information with employees and clients, or just a private user who wants to share an interesting private message with friends and family, forwarding messages on Facebook is pretty easy.
Facebook also allows you to forward messages to multiple recipients. You can do this from both the Messenger app and your browser, but if you want to forward text messages rather than links or photos, you need to use the app.
Either way, let’s take a closer look at how to do it.
Forwarding from a Browser
Open Facebook in your browser and click on the “Messages” icon in the upper-right section. You can also select Messenger from the menu on the left to have a full-screen preview of all chats. For the purposes of this article, we’ll use the Messenger option.
Click on a conversation to open the chat and hover your cursor over a message. This is where things become a bit tricky inside a browser.
If you want to share images, links, or videos, there is a “Forward” icon right next to them. However, there isn’t any forwarding option for text messages even if you click on the “More” icon.
Assuming you want to forward a link, for example, the necessary actions are pretty straightforward.
As hinted, you click on the “Forward” icon, type the name of the recipient or group, hit send, and that’s it.
Forwarding from the Messenger App
Launch the Messenger App on your smartphone or tablet and tap on a conversation to access the chat. Browse for the message you wish to forward and press on it to reveal more actions.
Tap on the Forward option at the bottom and select the recipient(s) or group and hit Send.
The mobile application also allows you to create a new group, which might be quite useful for business and private purposes.
Facebook Messages on Your Email
Unfortunately, the revamped Facebook system doesn’t allow you to forward messages directly to your email account. It makes copying and saving the messages a bit more difficult, but is there anything you can do to work around this issue?
Luckily, there is. Download your Facebook messages, copy and paste them into a new email, and save the draft. Sure, this requires more steps than before. However, it is a neat hack to have the messages on your email. In addition, you can save the messages in Notes, a Word document, or back them up in any other way you deem fit.
Since forwarding is not an option on a desktop, you might want to back up your messages. The process is quick and simple, and you can also do it on your smart device. Here we’ll show you how to do it on a desktop, but the steps are almost the same for a smart device.
Launch Facebook in a browser, click the “Arrow” menu in the top-right, and then select Settings.
Choose Your Facebook Information from the menu on the left and click Download Your Information.
Since you want to back up the messages, you can uncheck all the other options. Of course, you can check any other information like Photos and Videos, Likes, Friends, if you want to back them up as well. Finally, click on Create File and wait for the download to complete.
Facebook allows you to select a date range, format, and media quality. You get to choose specific dates, which is quite useful when backing up messages. As for format and media quality, set it to HTML and Medium and you’ll be fine.
When the download finishes, click the text link for your messages and copy/paste them to another program or destination.
Click on the “gear” icon and then select Settings to access more actions. Here you can toggle on/off the active status, disable sounds, and turn off desktop notifications.
A message/contact blocking option is included, and you are allowed to manage payments as well. There is also a good selection of ethnically diverse emojis, but that’s pretty much it.
It would be nice to see some forwarding options in future Facebook updates. But for now, you have to make do with what’s available.
The Last Message
When all is said and done, it is best to use the mobile app to forward Facebook messages, be it text, links, images, or videos. This is probably one of the ways the social media giant wants to promote the app use, but you never know, the forwarding option might return to the desktop. Until it does, you can create backups via your browser and copy/paste the messages you want to share.

There are lots of different messaging apps available, including WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and Google’s latest offering, Allo. Which you use will likely depend on what apps your friends prefer, but privacy might also be a big factor. Google Allo, for example, is a bit of a privacy nightmare, unless you use the Incognito mode.
You probably don’t want Facebook snooping on your private conversations, so may have steered clear of Messenger previously, but the good news is the social network now lets you send private messages to friends which can only be read on the device of the person you’re communicating with — and not by Facebook itself.
Facebook Secret Conversations started being tested on a limited basis three months ago, but is now available to most users.
It lets you create end-to-end encrypted one-to-one secret conversations though the Messenger app for Android and iOS (not through Facebook on the web), and you can currently send text, photos and stickers.
It’s very easy to send a secret message, just follow these steps:
- Open Messenger, and tap the New Message button.
- Next, tap Secret at the top right.
- Select who you want to send the message to, and compose it.
- You’ll see a stopwatch button at the right, tap this and you can set a timer to control how long each message you send remains visible for. The duration can be anything from 5 seconds to one day.
- When done, click on Send.
Yes, yes your private Facebook messages— and Insta, Twitter and LinkedIn DMs— are all admissible in Court.
While that’s the straightforward answer to the question ‘Can private messages be used in Court?’ as with Facebook’s relationship statuses…it’s Complicated.
Way back in the stone ages of social media, lawyers were finding their footing to present screenshots as evidence. Nowadays, creeping on an opposing party’s Facebook page, Insta account, and yes, even AdultFriendFinder and Ashley Madison— is taken as standard operating procedure in almost any family law firm.
But what about the stuff that’s not on your wall? That’s your 3am DM to your bestie, that you type furiously under the covers while your emotionally exhausted toddler is sprawled across your bed because she had another anxiety-induced nightmare.
To many people, private messages feel different than posts. Most of us mamas have enough discretion to avoid posting rants about our co-parents on our wall, but feel safer in the relative intimacy of Facebook messenger or Insta’s DM feature. While they may seem like an ideal place to pour your heart out, those “private messages” can and do end up in front of a judge on the regular.
Scores of cases regarding the use of social media content in divorce have spun through Courts across the US— all the way up to Supreme Courts in some states. By and large, rulings are coming down that say social media content is not protected, and that you can be compelled to turn over your messages to your opposing party.
The legal reasoning behind this is slightly nuanced state-to-state, but the general guiding framework is this: anything that is not subject to the protection of privileged communications is fair game to be requested— or subpoenaed, should you make the ill-advised decision not to comply with requests— by your spouse or their lawyer. ‘Private’ messages are subject to the same rules of discovery (the fancy legal term used for the process of exchanging information during litigation) as any other communication that’s not privileged.
In general, anything— DMs, emails, text messages— that is not subject to privilege laws must be turned over if requested, and can be presented as evidence. This means that, in general, unless it’s something that you’ve written to your attorney, your pastor, or your doctor, you can be compelled to turn it over to your spouse during your divorce proceedings.
When our firm signs a new client, one of the first things we do is send a friendly little letter outlining clear advice about using social media. To concisely paraphrase, it says DO NOT POST ABOUT YOUR CASE ON SOCIAL MEDIA (like we said, friendly). The reason we do this is to protect our clients; we have seen many a mom embarrassed by photos partying at a bar on nights when she had custody, or sporting new Devil-Wears-Prada worthy duds while fighting for alimony (side note: please don’t be this girl!).
But this warning brings us back to the wall conundrum; posting on a social media wall feels public, messaging your girlfriend about the latest jerk move your ex has pulled feels private. The harsh reality is that both can be trotted out in Court…along with your text messages and emails. It’s scary but true.
In addition to being able to request your DMs, there are easy tech solutions for attorneys to download your social media history. There are private firms and software that exist for the sole purpose of ‘capturing’ a person’s social media history— everything they’ve ever posted, messaged, and deleted. Additionally, lawyers can capture metadata from your social accounts, meaning that IP addresses, timestamps, and your location can all become evidence in your Court case.
We lay this out here not to scare the crap out of you, but to help you become conscious about what you say to whom. During divorce proceedings, most of your communications are fair game for the other side to use to build a case as to why their requests— whether that be for a particular custody schedule, a monetary settlement, or child support award— should be granted.
So what does all this translate to, bottom line, if you’re preparing for a custody battle or headed into Court because you and your ex haven’t been able to settle your differences through mediation or other means? While all of the legal-ese surrounding social media messages feels complicated, there are actually some simple guidelines to help you stay safe. Here are our top tips:
First and foremost, stop using your DM features for anything related to your divorce, your finances, or your children. While this may seem straightforward, make sure you really think globally about what you share on Messenger.
If you have a side hustle like a BeachBody team that uses messenger to communicate as a group, and generating income is one of the topics that comes up in your threads, ask to be removed from the thread for the foreseeable future. All of this could come into play in Court, so best to be safe.
Don’t. Delete. Anything.
While it may seem smart to clean up any unflattering messages that may be in your history, deleting any content (Facebook, emails, texts, etc) is actually considered Destruction of Evidence in many jurisdictions. Icky consequences like having to pay to recreate your content (BIG BUCKS!) and pay for your opposing party’s attorney’s fees can come with this, so please don’t hit delete!
Get Thee to An Attorney
Seriously. Go. The best way to stay safe and ensure that you’re going to have an outcome in line with your long-term goals is to have qualified counsel helping guide you. If you are without financial means to secure representation, at least have an initial consultation with an attorney in your area. Some law firms will meet with you for a relatively low fee, or even for free. The information you gain in just a consult alone can help answer some of your bigger questions about the process and any implications that may stem from your social media use.
Turn it all over
Do not play coy if your spouse (or their attorney) requests your social media messages. In theory, failure to turn over your requested information to your opposing party can result in your spouse’s attorney filing sanctions with the Court. While these may not get granted, it isn’t fun to have to explain to a judge why you chose not to follow the rules.
Above all else, try not to stress too much about your social media messages being used in Court. Whatever is already in your message history has already happened. It is what it is, as the cool kids say. You can’t change it, and deleting it can have worse implications than having your attorney do their best to mitigate the impact of whatever is in there. There is no use losing sleep over something that you can’t change. Find an attorney you trust, and work with them to find a solution to any concerns that come up as a result of social media mishaps.

Most people nowadays are into using Facebook. Because of this social media platform to connect to millions of people around the world, who will not be interested in having one, right?
Facebook allows you to post photos, videos, and as well as your status at the moment you are using such as on how you feel. It also helps people to search for other people and stay connected with them even if they are far away.
And with that, one of the most used application or platform that Facebook offers to millions of people is its Messenger. Through this feature, you will be able to send and receive messages and as well as some photos and videos privately.
Tips: If you want to know how to see old messages on Facebook Messenger, you can read this guide.
You can even send some files if you wish to do so. But just like any other social media platforms out there, Facebook also comes with some common issues that you might encounter and one of which is when you can’t send messages on Facebook. This is one moment that is inconvenient for people who uses this platform because it can be a cause as to why they lose communication with their friends.
So with this kind of struggle that some users experience when they are sending messages on Facebook, we have here some quick solutions that you can do on your own for you to have the issue resolved.
Why Can’t I Send Messages to Someone on Facebook?
If you’re not able to send someone messages on Facebook, that may be one of these reasons:
- Either you blocked the user or you’ve been blocked by them.
- The user has deactivated their Facebook account.
- Other members except you have left the group so you can’t message the group.
Below are some quick and easy solutions that you can do for you to fix the problem “cant send messages on Facebook”.
Solution #1: Log out and Log in your Facebook Account
One of the quickest and basic troubleshooting that you should do is to try to log out your Facebook account and log back in after a minute or two. This may sound very simple but in several situations, this solution works on some users. So with that, here is what you will be needing to do.
For Mobile Users
Step 1: On the main page of Facebook, go ahead and simply tap on the “More” icon which is represented by the three horizontal lines located at the upper right-hand corner of your screen.
Step 2: After that, simply scroll down and tap on the Log Out button.
Step 3: One that you are logged out, simply go ahead and log back in by entering your Facebook email and password.
Step 1: On the main interface of Facebook, simply go ahead and click on the arrow down button which is located at the right-hand corner of your screen. This is the arrow down button beside the Quick Help icon represented by a question mark.
Step 2: After that, click on the Log out button from the drop-down menu on your screen.
Step 3: Then once that you are logged out of Facebook, simply go ahead and enter your Email and your password of your Facebook account for you to log back in.
Once that you have tried to log out and log back in of Facebook, go ahead and try to send a message and see if it will push through. If not, then you can go ahead and try the other solutions below.
Solution #2: Remove Browser Cache
If you are using your computer to use your Facebook account, then you must know that cleaning up the cache on your browser is one way for you to fix the misbehaving act that you are dealing with when sending a message on Facebook. This goes with all of the browsers that you have such as Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Safari, or Mozilla Firefox.
Let us say that you are using Google Chrome as of the moment as your browser. And for you to clear your cache, here is what you will be needing to do.
Step 1: From the address bar of your Google Chrome browser, go ahead and enter the following address: chrome://settings/clearBrowserData/
Step 2: Then, you will be taken to another page. From that page, go ahead and simply choose all of the following by clicking on the small box beside them.
- Download History
- Cookies and other site and plug-in data
- Browsing History
- Cached images and files.
Step 3: After choosing those options to clean up from your Google Chrome browser, go ahead and click on the “Clear Browsing Data” button.
Step 3: Once that you are done cleaning up all of your cache on your Google Chrome browser, go ahead and close your browser and open it up again. Then try to access your Facebook account and try to send a message.
Solution #3: Remove All Add-ons that are not Compatible
If you were not able to send messages on Facebook using your Google Chrome browser, then you can try and access Facebook using the incognito mode of your browser. To do so, here are quick guidelines for you.
Step 1: On the main interface of your Google Chrome browser, go ahead and simply click on the three-dot icon which is located at the upper-right hand corner of your window screen. Then a drop-down menu will show up on your screen.
Step 2: From the drop-down menu, go ahead and choose “New Incognito Window”. Alternatively, you can also make use of the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + N
Now, if in any case that you were able to send a message on Facebook when you are in incognito mode, then that simply means that there is a problem with the extensions that you have on your browser. It only means that the extension that you are using on your Google Chrome browser is not compatible with the one you are using.
So if this is the case, all you need to do is to remove all of the add-ons that are not compatible with the browser you are using. And here is how you can do that.
Step 1: On the main interface of your Google Chrome browser, go ahead and simply click on the three-dot icon which you can find on the upper right-hand corner of your screen.
Step 2: Then from the drop-down menu that shows up on your screen, go ahead and simply choose on the “More Tools” option and then select on “Extensions”.
Step 3: From there, go ahead and look for all of the incompatible add-ons that you have on your browser and delete them.
And once that you have removed those add-ons that are not compatible with your browser, go ahead and access your Facebook and try to send a message. See if this works for you now.
Solution #4: Change the Browser You are Using
Another way you can fix the problem that you can’t send messages on Facebook is by changing the web browser that you are using. For example, you are using the Google Chrome browser. Hey! Have you ever ran into a piece of information which you can’t help but share to as many people as possible? Seems yes, you said. Ok, that’s exactly what adds a little fun in the world we live – sharing information.
Information sharing right from the Stone Age has been one thing that has so much importance. Due to its importance, there is always the need to get information across to the relevant people as quick as possible. Enough of the stone-age history, let’s face the reality of today and the trends in the new dispensation of our world of rapid technological advancement.
The rapid revolution in technology has made information sharing very fast (moving almost with the speed of light) and simple. Fast in the sense that within the blink of an eye, a piece of information can be shared and transferred to people who are thousands of miles away.
Talking about how simple information flies? Yes, it is very obvious that with a lot of communication devices (phones, computer, iPad etc), social media (Facebook, WhatsApp, twitter etc) and other online channels currently in use, one can send and receive tons of messages and other useful information just in the comfort of his sofa.
Not only can such messages be sent to an individual, but it can also be sent to as many people as possible all at the same time. Just to add drops of water to a frying oil. Messages received with the intention of being shared with other people don’t even need to undergo the process of typing, formatting or even editing.
All that is just needed is the use of the ‘copy’ feature in your device, be it a desktop or laptop computer, iPad, phone or other communication devices.
Remember, the “copy” feature on its own can’t do the whole magic of information sharing but it works hand-in-hand with the “paste” feature. The ‘paste’ function serves as the visible result for whatever that has been copied and ready to be saved or shared.
Its worthy of mention here that with the copy and paste functions, messages can easily be transferred not just from person to person but also from one app to the other.
Secondly, the copy and paste functions also give you the liberty of tweaking a message to suit your own thoughts and style without having to retype the same message all over again.
Thirdly, when using the copy function on facebook messenger, you have much time to chat with more friends or do other things. This is possible because you don’t necessarily need to type the same message to all the people you want to share the message with. It is very obvious that you are already anxious to know how to use the ‘copy’ function especially for messages and chats on social media platforms such as the facebook messenger application.
Whether you are using a desktop or laptop computer, an Android device or an iPhone for chatting on facebook messenger, copying messages isn’t hard to do.
Believe me when I say it isn’t hard to do. All that you need to do is simply sit back and go through these simple steps one after the other. Also, if you are using a computer for your facebook messenger chats, make sure that your mouse is functioning properly for ease of message copying.
Again, when copying messages on facebook messenger using either your computer, iPhone or an Android device, endeavor to paste a particular message immediately after it has been copied.
Reasons to this being that, after copying a particular message without pasting it where you would want it when next you copy another message or data from any part of your device (iPhone, the computer of android), the current item copied will overwrite the previous message you must have copied on facebook messenger.
So, let’s get started.

Not happy that Facebook now forces you to use its Messenger app? Here’s how to beat the company at its own game.
Rick Broida is the author of numerous books and thousands of reviews, features and blog posts. He writes CNET’s popular Cheapskate blog and co-hosts Protocol 1: A Travelers Podcast (about the TV show Travelers). He lives in Michigan, where he previously owned two escape rooms (chronicled in the ebook “I Was a Middle-Aged Zombie”).
If you’re a Facebook user, you’re probably aware by now that you can no longer send and receive messages from within the mobile app. The company now requires you to use the standalone Messenger app for mobile chats.
I suspect most users had the same reaction I did: Uh, no. Why should I install a second app just so I can trade the occasional message with a Facebook friend? It reminds me of when Apple ripped podcast management out of the Music app and forced users into a seriously awful standalone app .
Fortunately, there are two ways to deal with this.
First, you can open Facebook in your mobile browser, sign into your account, and access the service via its Web interface.
Open (then bookmark) Facebook in your mobile browser to continue enjoying integrated messaging. Screenshot by Rick Broida/CNET
There are a few advantages here, not the least of which is integrated messaging, just like you’re used to. This browser-based version also provides a nearly identical feature set and navigation menu, so there’s virtually no learning curve. And as noted over at ITworld, the Facebook app can put a dent in your battery life, meaning you’re actually better off deleting it and relying on the Web version instead.
So to make that your permanent option, just bookmark the mobile Facebook site (m.facebook.com), then add a shortcut to your Home screen.
Facebook Messenger does offer some benefits, like sharing your location with friends. Screenshot by Rick Broida/CNET
Your second option? Suck it up and use Facebook Messenger, especially if you’re a heavy chatter. Annoying as it is to have to switch to a different app, Messenger itself is fairly robust, offering easy ways to create groups and send photos, videos, and even voice clips. It’s chock full of emoji (or “stickers,” to use FB parlance), if you’re into that sort of thing, and you can use it to voice-call other Messenger users at no charge.
In other words, before you abandon Facebook in a huff, at least give Messenger a try. You might find it useful — and at just 35MB (for the iOS version, anyway — Android size varies), it’s a reasonably compact app.

This article explains how to permanently unsend a message you’ve sent using Facebook Messenger. You can remove the message from your own chat history or for everyone on the chat.
How to Unsend Facebook Messages in a Web Browser
Here’s how to unsend a Messenger message in a web browser:
Select More (three dots), and then select Remove.
Select Unsend for everyone to remove the comment from the conversation, and then select Remove.
Click Okay to confirm.
The text you sent is gone. In its place, a bubble says, “You unsent a message.” This bubble is visible to all participants.
How to Unsend Messages in the Facebook Messenger App
Whether you have an Android or an iPhone, the process for unsending a message sent from the app is the same.
Tap and hold the message you want to unsend.
Choose Unsend for Everyone to remove the message from all chat participants’ threads. Alternatively, tap Unsend for You to remove it from your chat but leave it on other participants’ threads.
Select OK to confirm.
The item you unsent has “You unsent a message” in its place. Everyone in the conversation can see this.
The unsend feature might not be available if you use a messaging app that integrates with Facebook other than Facebook Messenger.
Why Would You Want to Unsend Facebook Messages?
Let’s say you just sent a message you instantly regretted, or you accidentally sent a personal message to the wrong person. Until 2018, Facebook messages could not be unsent or removed from the recipient’s inbox. Now, you can take back your words, GIFs, emojis, or anything else you sent to an individual or group of people.
Can People Still See Unsent Facebook Messages?
Unsending a message deletes it from the conversation, so it might disappear before the recipient actually sees it. However, it’s very possible they’ve already viewed the message, especially if it was sent some time previously. The recipient will see that you’ve unsent a message.
As part of its mission to prevent cyberbullying, Facebook administrators can see unsent messages for a short time in case a message is reported for policy violations. When someone unsends a message, the message is replaced by text indicating the message was removed. That way, you can report users for harassment by tapping the sender’s name, then selecting Something’s Wrong in the Facebook Messenger app.

Chat completely securely in WhatsApp
WhatsApp uses end-to-end encryption to keep your messages private – something which the Home Secretary, Amber Rudd, called “completely unacceptable” back in March, before later backtracking. WhatsApp’s protection means that, provided you and the person you’re chatting with are using the latest version of the app, all communications are secure and not even WhatsApp itself can see them. Encryption is turned on in the app by default – there’s no need to enable it manually. However, if you want to check that your messages are secure,
Secret Conversations in Messenger
Secret Conversations is a useful hidden feature in Facebook Messenger for Android and iOS that lets you send end-to-end encrypted messages to your friends. The option isn’t enabled by default and you have to start a new private conversation – rather than just continue an existing thread – to use it. Also, it doesn’t work in group chats.
Facebook’s Secret Conversations feature lets you encrypt your chats
To start a secret conversation:
- Open the Messenger app and tap the compose message icon in the top-right of the screen.
- Tap the padlock icon in the top-right corner.
- Choose a friend from your contacts.
- Tap on the message box and start typing your message. The recipient has to agree to enter a Secret Conversation with you.
Text and call securely using Signal
A growing number of chat apps – including the aforementioned WhatsApp and Facebook – use end-to-end encryption to keep your conversations private, but Signal (whispersystems.org) is more secure than most. This free app, which is used and recommended by NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden, doesn’t store information about its users and lets you chat securely to contacts in your existing phone and address book.
Available for both iOS and Android, the app lets you send hack-proof text, and picture and video messages to individuals or groups, and also make secure phone calls. Most recently, the developer added support for end-to-end encrypted video calls.
Secure your Gmail messages
Although Gmail offers encryption over an HTTPS connection when you’re reading and writing messages, it doesn’t encrypt them while they’re in transit. You can significantly increase your privacy by installing the CryptUp (cryptup.org) extension for Chrome and Firefox, which secures messages and attachments sent through Gmail in your browser using PGP (Pretty Good Privacy) end-to-end encryption. It works by adding a Secure Compose button to Gmail so you can quickly send secure messages whenever you need to. If your recipient doesn’t have CryptUp installed, or any other email encryption for that matter, you can secure your messages or files with a password.
Add end-to-end encryption to Gmail messages by installing CryptUp
CryptUp’s developer is planning to release Android and iOS apps, along with an Outlook add-in, later this year.
O ver a billion people communicate through Facebook Messenger every day. While Facebook says it takes measures to keep users’ information private, how secure are those billions of messages really?
Here, Facebook shares information on how some of its security works, while Vyas Sekar, a faculty member of CyLab at Carnegie Melon University and a professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, breaks down how someone might still find ways around it.
What security measures does Facebook Messenger take?
Facebook’s Messenger feature and app already include a fair amount of security. According to Facebook, Messenger uses the same secure communications protocols as banking and shopping sites. The company also says it uses additional protection to stop spam and malware.
As of 2016, Facebook added an additional security feature called “secret conversations,” which offers an encryption enhancement that Sekar says is similar to default features from messaging apps WhatsApp (which Facebook owns) and Signal. The messages are end-to-end encrypted, which means not even Facebook can access them. However, while these encryption options are on by default in apps like WhatsApp and Signal, users must choose to activate encryption on Facebook Messenger.
Can people get around Facebook’s security?
It’s important to note, Sekar says, that “anything can be hacked.” More importantly, he adds that sometimes no amount of back-end security will stop someone from accessing your messages if they decide to do so by physically accessing the device they’re on. And if someone is able to access your device, besides simply glancing at your messages, they might also be able to install a hidden spying app that can continue to access information in the background of your phone or computer.
It’s also possible for hackers to target a user’s Facebook password by using password-cracking tools or exploiting the ability to reset a password, then use that to sign into a victim’s Facebook account. “There’s often enough someone can see on a public profile that gives enough information to crack a password,” Sekar says.
Hackers can also download a fake app that can mimic Facebook or Messenger’s interface, Sekar said, which may also be used to prompt a user to put in information, like a password, that can be used by someone else.
How can I protect myself from having my messages hacked?
Since a major route around Facebook’s protections involves gaining access to a person’s phone, one way to help ensure your messages won’t be read is keeping your device secure, Sekar says. He recommends making sure there’s a password on your device and that it isn’t left unlocked to prevent people from gaining access in the first place.
Sekar adds that making sure passwords use information that isn’t publicly available and using different passwords for different accounts will also help make it hard for people to get into your account.
Facebook has effectively replaced e-mail for a large portion of its members. But many users still suffer from a basic misconception: They think that in order to converse with another member via Facebook’s e-mail-like Messages feature, they first need to send the other person a friend request and wait for it to be accepted before hitting Messages. This isn’t true.
To send a nonfriend a message, go to that person’s Facebook profile page and look for the big Message button in the upper-right corner of the page or, if that person has one of Facebook’s panoramic new Timeline photos at the top, look below and to the right of the image.
Sometimes, though, you will not see a Message button. That is because Facebook lets users block others from writing to them without first becoming Facebook friends. To block others from messaging you, click the arrow button at the very top and right of Facebook’s Web interface. In the menu that pops up, click on Privacy Settings, then How you connect and Who can send me messages. Change the default Everyone setting to either Friends or Friends of Friends, then click the Done button below it.
Unless you are being hounded by strangers, though, letting anyone on Facebook send you a message leaves the door open to meeting new people online, and to getting messages from people who would never have been able to Google your e-mail address.

Facebook Messenger isn’t just for chatting. You can also send money to (and request payments from) friends on the Facebook platform. If you spend a lot of time in Messenger, this may be a convenient option for sending and receiving money online.
How Facebook Messenger Payments Work
You can use Facebook Messenger on your desktop or make in-app payments from a mobile device. Making payments is a free process whether you send or receive money.
One advantage of using Facebook Messenger to send and receive payments is that you can easily split the cost of something with several people. For example, if you plan a group outing on Facebook, members in a group discussion can repay somebody who organizes and pays a booking fee.
While payments feel easy and informal, there are several requirements to use Messenger for making transactions:
- You need to have an active Facebook account.
- You need to fund payments with a U.S. bank-issued Visa or MasterCard debit card, or with a PayPal account. Some prepaid cards may work, as well.
- You must be 18 or older to use the service.
- All parties involved must live in the U.S.
How To Send Money
Sending money with Facebook is almost as easy as sending a private message. Whether you choose to send through the Messenger app or through the Facebook website, these are the steps involved:
- Start a private conversation in Messenger with the person you want to pay.
- Tap the “+” icon for more actions.
- Use the “$” icon to view the payment screen.
- Enter the amount you want to send.
- Push the “Pay” button to send the money.
If you have never provided payment information to Facebook, you will see a “Next” button instead of the “Pay” button.
Your First Payment
To use Messenger payments for the first time, you need to provide funding information. It’s easy to submit this information as you go through the process of making a payment, but you can also add or change funding methods in Facebook’s settings.
To add a funding method, enter your debit card number or PayPal account information, along with any other required information. You also have the opportunity to set up a personal identification number (PIN), which can help prevent unauthorized payments. Choose a code that is hard to guess and that nobody else knows. If you want extra security, you can require a fingerprint match or facial recognition on some devices.
Debit card payments pull money out of your checking account almost immediately. Make sure you have sufficient funds in your account to avoid overdraft charges, bounced checks, and other problems before you make a payment with Facebook Messenger.
How To Receive Money
When you receive a payment, Facebook sends the money to your linked debit card or PayPal account right away. That being said, it may take up to three business days for the money to appear in your bank account.
Provide Your Account Info
If you don’t yet have a linked account, you need to provide card details or your PayPal account information to accept payments. After you do this once, any future payments go to the linked account.
If You Need Money Faster
If you need the funds to be available for spending immediately, Zelle might work as an alternative to Messenger payments. Funds move directly from one bank to another, so Zelle transfers are typically available within minutes. You might already have access to Zelle through your bank, and payments clear quickly when both your bank and the sender’s bank work with Zelle.
Are Facebook Messenger Payments Safe?
Facebook claims that your money and your information are secure. Still, whenever money is involved, it’s smart to take steps to protect yourself from fraud and other problems.
Beware of Fraud
You can’t cancel Messenger payments, although recipients can voluntarily reject payments if you make a mistake. Plus, Facebook has limited consumer protection when you buy something through Messenger. Whenever you make a payment, it’s best to assume that the money is gone for good.
Only pay people you know and trust with Facebook Messenger. Double-check to verify somebody’s identity (impostor accounts are always a possibility on Facebook), and look for signs of common money scams.
To protect yourself, establish a PIN for Messenger payments (or use biometric security, if available on your device). Biometric features such as Touch ID and facial recognition are only available when using the Messenger app on certain devices. PINs and biometric security are optional, and it’s wise to take advantage of those security measures when you can.
Facebook reports that your personal data and linked account information are encrypted, and the company employs anti-fraud technology to reduce the chances of theft. Facebook also stores your financial information separately from your basic profile data, which would ideally help if certain systems are breached.
Facebook originally developed Messenger payments with help from financial industry experts, so it’s reasonable to expect relatively robust security. Still, even robust systems can get hacked.
Privacy is always a concern online. However, if you already share everything on Facebook and you’re not concerned about privacy, a bit of your financial information might not matter.
Still, data can be mined and analyzed in surprising ways, so be mindful of how you send and receive money. For example, when you make a payment in Messenger, your name, profile photo, and payment amount are shared with your payee, and the transaction information resides on Facebook’s servers.
In group payment situations, all group members can see payment information. If that bothers you, it’s best to pay one-on-one.
Monitor your linked funding accounts (your checking account or your PayPal account, for example) in addition to your Facebook account. Sign up for automated alerts to stay informed about withdrawals from your bank account, and notify your bank immediately if you see transactions you don’t recognize.

How to Message Someone Who Blocked you on Facebook
Even though it’s not possible, that we are know of, to send a message to anyone who blocked you on Facebook, there are hacks to anything on a site, including the ability to message a Facebook user even if they blocked you. This reveals many different ways that work. It is actually simpler than you have thought.
The most direct way to do this is let US do this for you. We will send a message to ANY Facebook user you wish, on your behalf. We charge a very nominal fee for this service ($1.15) .
Here are some let direct, more involved ways you can contact a Facebook member who has block you:
- Create a Second Facebook.com Account. If you are doing this just for the purpose of messaging people who have blocked you, it is not very complicated. All you have to do to create the new account for messaging purposes is supply a first and last name, an email address of some sort, and a password.
- Have a Third Party Message The Blocker for you. If you are on Facebook you probably have friends. Ask one of your friends to contact the person who has blocked you.
- A method we see a lot on the internet involves sending an email addressed to [email protected] replacing facebookusername with whatever their real Facebook username is. This may have worked in the past but no longer works.
Let US Send A Message for you to a Facebook User Who Blocked you
We will send any message you wish to any Facebook member you wish as long as the message does not contain illegal things like threats. It costs just ($1.15) and if for any reason the message does not get through you will be refunded the $1.15. Last month, Facebook announced that it was disabling the messaging service in its official Facebook app for iOS requiring users to switch to its Facebook Messenger app in order to continue to send and receive messages from friends. This move by the company to force users to use its standalone messenger app was disliked by many.
Yet, if you wish to get rid of this restriction and continue chatting with your friends without using the Facebook Messenger app, you can follow either of the methods outlined below. In this post, we will share two methods that will allow you to send messages in Facebook without using the standalone Messenger app.
How to send messages in Facebook app without using Messenger
Pre-requisite: Make sure the Facebook Messenger app is not installed on your device. If it is, just delete it,
Step 1: Launch the Facebook app on your iPhone or iPad and tap on the Messages tab.
Step 2: You should see a message asking you to install the Messenger app. Tap on the “Install” button.
Step 3: You’ll be redirected to the App Store. Start downloading the app, but tap on the solid blue square button to pause the install while it’s in process.
Step 4: Now, switch back to the Facebook app and you should be able to start chatting with your friends without installing the Messenger app. You’ll also gain access to all the chat features previously available.
This method (via The Guardian) might not work for too long so enjoy while it lasts. Alternatively, if you jailbreak your iPhone, the following method will work too.
How to send messages with the main Facebook app, no Messenger required
Another method is to make use of a brand new tweak known as FBNoNeedMessenger, though it requires a jailbroken iOS device. With this tweak, users can view and reply to messages directly from the Facebook app without requiring them to install the messenger app. It works just like before, simply launch the Facebook app and tap on the Messages tab to start chatting with your friends. One of the cool thing about this tweak is that all the chat features previously present on the Facebook app such as ‘Chat Heads’ will also be added.
Once you install the tweak, no configurations are required. Simply launch the Facebook app and you’re good to go. As of now, the tweak also works with the latest version of the Facebook app. To remain on the safe side, make sure not to update the app in the future unless the tweak is updated to support the latest version.
FBNoNeedMessenger is available for free in Cydia and is compatible with Facebook version 13.1.
Use Paper for Facebook
As noted by some of our readers, you can also install the official Paper app, which not only delivers a beautiful Facebook experience, but also lets you send and receive messages directly from the app.

Once you match with someone on Tinder, you can start making a connection by sending them messages. We’ll show you how to send your first-ever message from both the Tinder site and the Tinder mobile app.

How Tinder Messaging Works
Unlike with other messaging services, you can only send a message to a Tinder user if you match with them. Tinder doesn’t allow users to send messages to just any user.
A match happens when you swipe right on a profile and that profile user also swipes right on your profile. You’re then considered a match and can send messages to each other.
How to Message with the Tinder Mobile App
On an iPhone or Android phone, you can use the official Tinder app to message your matches.
To do so, launch the Tinder app on your phone.
In the app, from the bar at the bottom, select the chat tab (the bubbles icon).
Tinder’s chat screen will open. Here, from the “New Matches” section, tap the profile that you’d like to send a message to.
A message screen with your selected user will open. Tap the text field at the bottom of this screen and type your message. Then, tap “Send” to send the message.
You can add emojis and GIFs as well to your Tinder messages. To add an emoji, access the emoji list on your phone’s keyboard and tap the emoji to send it.
To send a GIF, tap the “GIF” option beside the text field on Tinder’s chat screen.
Select the GIF that you’d like to send, and Tinder will send it to your selected user.
And that’s how you commence your messaging journey on Tinder!
How to Message on the Tinder Website
On a Windows, Mac, Linux, or Chromebook computer, use the official Tinder website to send and receive messages from your matches.
To start, launch the Tinder site in a web browser on your computer. Log in to Tinder if you haven’t already done so.
Then, from the sidebar to the left, select the “Matches” tab. Then, choose the user to send a message to.
On the right-hand pane, at the bottom, click the text field and type your message. Then, click “Send” to send the typed message.
You can attach GIFs and stickers to your Tinder messages if you want. To add these items, click the relevant icons beside the text field on the messages window.
And that’s all there is to it.
On a related note, if you don’t wish to receive messages from a certain Tinder user anymore, unmatch them, and they won’t be able to contact you again.
All old Facebook users who had profiles before 2014 know that the Facebook app used to have a straightforward messaging system. But since July of 2014, users who want to exchange messages with someone have to download and install the Facebook Messenger app. This has its benefits, but some people don’t want to download yet another app just to have conversations on Facebook.
If you are one of these people, the article below will show you how you can message a friend without using the Messenger app at all.
Send Messages Using a Mobile Browser
Even though Facebook is doing all it can to make users switch to the Messenger app, you can still send your messages by using your browser. The process is much slower, and it requires you to wait for each page to open. However, if you want to send a message without downloading the Messenger app, you can do it like this:
- Open your browser and load the official Facebook website.
- Log in and select the “Conversations” tab found at the top of your timeline.
- Facebook will send you to the Google Play Store to download Messenger automatically.
- Go to the “Recent Apps” section if you’re using Android. iOS users should press the Home button to go back to Facebook.
- Enter your messages and click the ‘x’ when Facebook tells you to download Messenger again.
- The “Conversation” page will appear, but you will be taken to the app store the moment you click on someone’s name.
- Repeat step 4 until Facebook stops sending you to the store.
- Send your message.
The method above won’t work if you already have Facebook Messenger installed on your device. If you do, the website will open your Messenger instead of sending you to the app store.
Send Messages Using a Web Browser on Your PC
Sending messages on Facebook using your computer’s web browser is easier than using a mobile browser. The messaging system for PC users doesn’t require them to have the Messenger installed at all. Here is how you send messages from your PC:
- Open your browser and head to the Facebook website.
- Log in and click on the “Messages” button in the menu bar.
- Click on the person you want to contact, and then send your message.
Send Messages Using the Facebook SMS Service
You can use this method only when sending messages from the same phone number you entered when creating your Facebook account. You can use it to send a message in no time at all. Here is what you should do to set up the SMS service:
- Open the SMS app on your phone.
- Type “FB” in the message field and type in “15666” where it says “Send to.”
- Facebook will send you a text with an activation code.
- Open and log into your Facebook account from a PC.
- Select “Settings” from the menu bar.
- Look for the “Mobile” option on the left side and select it.
- When the “Mobile Settings” page opens, find the option that says “Already received a confirmation code?” and type in the code you received.
- Complete the process, and now your Facebook SMS Service is up and running.
Sending Messages Using the SMS service
When you’ve finally set up the Facebook SMS service, here is what you should do to send a message to someone:
- Open the SMS app on your phone and compose the message you want to send.
- Structure your message using the following format: msg
- Send the message to 15666 and your friend will see it in his inbox.
- That’s all there is to it! We advise you to use this method instead of the first one because it works much faster.
Send Messages via Third Party App
Believe it or not, there are some third-party apps you can use to send messages on Facebook, without using the official Facebook Messenger.
For example, you can use Friendly. It’s an iOS app that makes it possible to message people on Facebook the old way, as though Messenger was never released. Android users can download Lite Messenger, which provides the same benefits as Friendly.
You Can Forget About Facebook Messenger
Facebook Messenger was created so users can contact each other with ease. But some find it annoying or intrusive, and there are still some ways you can avoid it. The Facebook SMS service is the easiest alternative method of sending messages, but you have to make sure that the phone number you are using is the same number you entered when creating your Facebook account.
