How to set up a wacom tablet

I’ve just borrowed a Wacom Intuos3 graphics tablet off my brother. However he’d lost the CD that came with it so I had to root around on the internet to get it working on my Microsoft Windows 8.1 laptop.

Now that it is up and running I thought I’d write a quick article about downloading and installing the latest Wacom drivers in case anyone else found it useful.

Step 1: Identify The Tablet

The way to do this is to look at the sticker on the back of the tablet and then consult this Wacom page:

This is what’s on the back of the tablet:

How to set up a wacom tablet

As you can see the tablet model number is PTZ-630 meaning that it is an Intuos3.

Step 2: Download The Drivers

I found the drivers I needed from this page:

How to set up a wacom tablet

Step 3: Run The Executable file

Once downloaded, I ran the executable file (WacomTablet_6.3.11-4a.exe) which begins by extracting files:

Step 4: Accept The License Agreement

Step 5: Reboot Your Computer

When the installation completed, it asked me to restart.

How to set up a wacom tablet

Step 6: Check The Installed Apps

Just to make sure, I checked the Installed Apps screen after the reboot to see if the Wacom software was present.

How to set up a wacom tablet

Step 7: Connect The Tablet

I connected the tablet’s USB cable and Windows started installing the Micosoft onscreen keyboard.

How to set up a wacom tablet

Once this is completed, you will see a new keyboard icon in your systray at the bottom right corner of your screen:

You can assign keystrokes to customizable components of your device, like ExpressKeys and pen buttons, so you can press a button on your device instead of pressing the keystroke on your keyboard. You can also assign a combination of keystrokes, so you only have to press one button instead of the entire keystroke combination.

For a visual walk through of setting up a keystroke, see our tutorial video here .

  • Go to Wacom Tablet Properties.
  • Select Keystroke from the drop-down menu of one of your device’s customizable components.
  • The Define Keystroke window appears.

How to set up a wacom tablet

  • In the Keys box, enter the keystroke that you want to assign. If you want to assign a combination of keystrokes, enter each keystroke that you want in the combination.
    • You can enter letters, numbers, function keys, and modifier keys. You can also choose combinations from the Add Special drop-down.
  • Click Delete to remove only the last keystroke you entered.
  • Click Clear to remove all the keystrokes you entered so you can start over.
  • Enter a Name for your keystroke and click OK.
  • The name appears on On-Screen Controls, in Wacom Tablet Properties, and in Settings view, so enter a name that indicates the keystroke you assigned.
  • If you are assigning numbers to a Keypad, it is best practice to name the Keystroke the number that you assigned. For example, if you assign the number 8 to a Keypad button, name the Keystroke 8.

Note about Touch Rings and mouse wheels: Two Keys boxes appear for Touch Rings and mouse wheels. Enter the keystroke for clockwise or forward wheel movement in the first box and counterclockwise or backward wheel movement in the second box.

Tip: You can assign different keystroke combinations to the same customizable component for different applications.

To learn which keystroke combinations are built-in as shortcuts for a particular application, refer to the documentation for the application.

All you need to do is connect the drawing tablet to the computer or to an Android phone and then open Roblox. Drawing tablets are input devices, therefore they work on Roblox just like a regular mouse. Most drawing tablets sold by Wacom, XP-PEN and Huion can be used in Roblox without any issues.

If you play Roblox games on an iPad, simply use the Apple Pencil and everything should be fine.

My Drawing Tablet Does Not Work on Roblox. What should I Do?

If your desktop computer, laptop, or tablet has Windows 10 as its operating system and works well with drawing tablets, except when you try to use them with Roblox, there are two possible solutions:

  1. Disable Windows Ink
  2. Update the drawing tablet’s driver

Windows Ink tends to be the culprit of nearly every issue that arises from the interaction between drawing tablets and Roblox, therefore this is likely to be the problem you are currently facing.

If that does not work, it’s worth updating or even switching drivers.

How to Disable Windows Ink and Make Drawing Tablets Work on Roblox?

  • Click on the search icon (magnifying glass) on the bottom left-hand corner.
  • Type “Policy Editor”.

How to set up a wacom tablet

  • Click on the “Edit Group Policy” icon.

How to set up a wacom tablet

  • The following window will pop-up.

How to set up a wacom tablet

  • Click on “Administrative Templates”.

How to set up a wacom tablet

  • Click on “Windows Components”.

How to set up a wacom tablet

  • Scroll down and click on “Windows Ink Workspace”.

How to set up a wacom tablet

  • Double-click “Allow Windows Ink Workspace”.
  • A new window will pop-up.

  • Select the “Enabled” option.

How to set up a wacom tablet

  • A dropdown menu will appear below with three options, choose “Disabled

How to set up a wacom tablet

  • Click on “Apply”.

How to set up a wacom tablet

  • Restart the computer.

These steps will disable Windows Ink and if this really is the culprit of the problem, the drawing tablet will work perfectly on Roblox.

In case you the drawing tablet remains unresponsive after Roblox is launched, try the next solution: updating drivers.

How to Update Drawing Tablet Drivers for Roblox?

If nothing else works, there might be an incompatibility issue between the drawing tablet’s driver and Roblox.

Simply go to the drawing tablet manufacturer’s website and download the latest driver for your device. Here is a list of the websites where you can download all drivers from the largest drawing tablet companies.

  1. Wacom
  2. XP-PEN
  3. Huion

If you already have the latest driver installed, but Roblox still does not work, try installing a slightest older version of the same driver.

After that, restart the computer and launch Roblox once again.

If the problem persists, you may still try to install other drivers from different drawing tablets that belong to the same series as yours. This only works on rare occasions, but it’s worth a try.

What Should You Do if the Drawing Tablet Still Does Not Work on Roblox?

In the worst-case scenario, I would recommend that you get in touch with customer support at Roblox and explain exactly what’s happening. Tell them what’s your drawing tablet’s brand and model. After receiving this information, they should be able to help you further troubleshoot.

Conclusion

Drawing tablet incompatibility issues are usually easy to solve, they are nothing to worry about. If you follow the instructions provided in this post, you are highly likely to get everything running smoothly.

However, if nothing else works, make sure to leave a comment and I will do my best to help you out.
