How to spot a fake i. d

Living in a college town means students, students mean underage, underage means fake ID. Your first two years of college you are underage and it sucks. But most people try to beat the system and get a fake ID. But how good is your fake ID really? Here is some mistakes rookies commonly make when purchasing theirs first fake ID and how to spot a fake ID.

1. Most over used states

If you are going to order a fake ID from China King or ID King or whatever they’re calling themselves now, DO NOT order a Florida, Pennsylvania, Connecticut or Illinois ID. These are the most commonly ordered fake IDs and bouncers know it. Also don’t get the state that you live in because bouncers or bartenders look at that state ID all day every day and even if the slightest thing is wrong on your fake they will immediately notice.

2. Second form

Don’t even think about getting a fake ID if you don’t have a second form ready for backup. Underage people want to order IDs and use fake names but when you get asked for a second form, you’re screwed. Your ID will get taken and you better pray there isn’t a cop next to the bouncer.

3. ID thickness

When you feel your real ID it is thick, like a credit card, make sure your fake is the same thickness too. Flimsy IDs are an obvious give away that the ID isn’t real. Sometimes it’s worth spending the few extra bucks to make sure you have a quality ID.

4. Picture

You know how the DMV always takes the shittest picture ever? Well if your fake ID looks like a selfie you took Friday night before you went to the club, your ID Is fake. If you have shadows under your eyes or around your body, your ID is fake. Fake as shit.

5. Holograms

This is probably the easiest way to identify a fake ID. If you don’t have a hologram on your fake ID then just go home because there is no way in hell you are getting in the club. When the bouncers move your ID around a little and it is dull with no hologram, then you’re screwed.

6. Don’t look guilty

Confidence is key with fake IDs .If you keep looking around or start sweating, you look/are guilty and everyone knows it.. If you act guilty, chances are you’re doing something you’re not supposed to be doing.

7. Scan

At gas stations and grocery stores they scan your ID at the check-out. If you have a cheap shitty fake ID, you will get denied and it’s going to be embarrassing. The cashier might even take your ID. Don’t even try going to grocery stores until you’re actually 21 because it’s too sketchy.

10 Up And Coming Festivals You Need To Go To

8. Signature font

A rookie mistake, the font. No one’s signature looks good on a driver’s license so if you have some Microsoft word script font signature, that’s a red flag. Do it the old school way and sign a white sheet of printer paper and upload that, instead of trying to make it look too perfect.

9. If it looks fake, it probably IS fake

An ID that is a piece of paper that has been laminated is obviously fake. If your ID looks or feels fake, don’t use it. Worried your ID won’t get you in the club because it’s not A1? Don’t use it, you’re probably right. If you have to question if your ID will work, then it won’t.

10. Be in sync with your friends

If all your friends have Florida IDs and you have a Pennsylvania one, you’re standing out and drawing unwanted attention to yourself. Being the odd man out is raises suspicions, shit isn’t adding up. Same goes for if you and all your friends have different state IDs, I mean what are the chances your whole friend group is from 10 different states? Yeah, slim to none.

Catch Fake IDs by Using the “FLAG” System

Identity theft is rampant, so if you ask for a customer’s ID as part of your business or campus procedure, you or your employees need to know what a fake ID looks like. If you don’t know and have done nothing to protect yourself, then shame on you. Identity thieves count on your lack of knowledge so they can use false identification cards (some even poorly made) to defraud you of your service and/or money.

And don’t think that identity theft is just a minor financial crime. The two worst cases of domestic terrorism in the United States (Oklahoma City and World Trade Center bombings) were both committed by suspects using fake IDs.

Many industries (hotel, retail, mortgage, escrow, property rental, healthcare, etc.) ask for identification, but don’t train their employees how to recognize a fake ID. There are more than 240 different types state government-issued IDs in the United States. Most states use the same security features, but they add their own twists. Some of these features can be seen with the naked eye, while others require some simple technology such as a UV light and a high-quality magnifying glass.

The California Department of Alcohol and Beverage Control teaches a system called “FLAG” to check IDs. It stands for “Feel”, “Look”, “Ask” and “Give” back to the person or police. There are more than 25 different points to check in FLAG to be aware of on ID cards.

F is for ‘Feel’

There are some tactile security features you should be able to feel. First, do not accept an ID shown to you from inside a wallet window slot, which prevents you from touching it. Have the person take his or her ID out of their wallet so you can feel it.

When you are holding it in your hands, be mindful that ID thieves have learned to counterfeit some tactile features. Fortunately, the quality of these features is below state-issued identification cards. Focus on the quality. Even try scratching the card with your fingernail or a coin to see if tactile items come off or change easily. If they do, you’ve got a fake ID in your hands.

L is for ‘Look”

Look at the picture. Is the person standing in front of you the same person in the ID picture? This is very subjective. You will need to focus on the “Triangle of Recognition” area of the face (eyes, ears, nose, mouth and chin). The triangle is the area across the face from ear to ear and down to the bottom of the chin. Unless the person has had plastic surgery, these areas will not change dramatically over a period of time.

Hair, eye brows, eye color and facial hair can be changed. Faces can get thinner or heavier with weight gain or loss. However, the position of the ears and eyes will not usually change. Look for a difference that can’t be explained. For example, if the person standing in front of you has a dimple on the chin, but there is no dimple seen in the photo ID, then this should be considered a red flag. Dimple implant surgery is not a logical explanation.

Additionally, look at the signature. You do not have to be a handwriting expert to recognize a major difference in the signature on the card and on a document you have them sign in front of you. Can a person’s signature vary? Yes, but it could also be dramatically different because that person is using an ID that does not belong to them.

A is for ‘Ask’

Bouncers at bars are good at asking questions and catching the fake ID holder in a lie. For example, the fake ID will probably have a fake date of birth. This new fake birth date might fall under a different Zodiac sign than the suspect’s real birth date Zodiac sign. You might ask the suspect “What is your Zodiac sign?” The suspect might know his fake date of birth because he memorized it but probably won’t know his new Zodiac sign. Similar questions related to the address or other data listed could also be used to catch them off guard. Watch facial expressions or stutters in answers which could reveal potential fraud.

G is for ‘Give It Back or Give It to the Police’

If you have checked all the security features to the best your ability and believe that the person in front of you is the same person in the picture, give the card back to them and continue doing business with them. If you believe you have a fake ID, you can seize the card.

However, do not get into the business of confiscating fake IDs and possibly being assaulted over it. We suggest that you photocopy the ID card if you can and return it to the suspect. Also, are you in a safe environment (your office with fellow employees vs. the suspect’s house)? Can you ask for a secondary form of ID if you are not sure? If you want to file a fraud crime report afterward, the photocopy of the ID will be very helpful to the police investigation.

These Steps Are Just a Start

Every 2 seconds, an identity is stolen in the United States, reports CNN. Additionally, 46 percent of all identity theft crimes are committed with a fake ID. If every industry were trained how to spot a phony identification card, almost half of the identity theft crimes would be stopped.

The police can’t investigate every identity theft crime and recover your loss. However, you can take the steps to train your staff or employees and protect yourself and your campus. Or, you can continue to ask for IDs and blindly accept them as real. But if you get fooled and become another victim, the onus is on you.

Contact your local ISG dealer today to take steps in not only catching fake ID cards, but to make sure that your organization’s ID cards cannot be altered or counterfeited. If you can eliminate the ability of counterfeiters to use your cards, you have already done your part in reducing fake ID crimes.

There are three basic types of ID fraud: Borrowed, Fake, and Altered. Modern and enhanced security features have changed the way that ID fraud occurs. Borrowed IDs are by far the most common method of ID fraud, followed by Fake IDs, and more rarely Altered IDs. Here are some of the ways you can spot problems.

Borrowed IDs – The Most Common Form of ID Fraud
Borrowed IDs are now the most common form of ID fraud. It is estimated that 95% of all ID fraud originates with a borrowed ID. Minors get borrowed IDs from several sources: they use the ID of an older sibling, an older friend, or get an ID of a stranger through their friends and friend networks.

Here are some suggestions for spotting the borrowed ID:

  • Compare the photograph on the ID with the person standing in front of you and question discrepancies (the cardholder counts on the fact that a store clerk will be too busy to inspect the ID closely).
  • Review and compare other physical descriptors like height and weight.
  • Look for signs of duplicate cards, such as “DUPL” stamp.
  • Watch for expired cards.
  • Ask questions!
    • Ask the cardholder to verify personal data on the card.
    • Obtain a signature and compare it to the one on the card.
    • Ask the cardholder what their middle initial stands for.
    • Purposely mispronounce their name or misstate their middle initial to see if the cardholder instinctively gives the correct information.
  • Look for signs of deceit.
    • Does the cardholder avoid eye contact, exhibit unusual hesitation when answering, behave nervously, attempt to intimidate, or do their eyes track upwards (as if to recall or make something up)?

Fake IDs
In an effort to keep up with the modern security enhancements of real IDs, manufacturers of faked IDs are using advanced technology to create very “real” looking fakes. The internet has become a prime resource to purchase these IDs. The best way to spot fakes is to do a visual and physical examination of the ID in question, and to be familiar with what a real ID in your community looks like.

    Physical inspection of the ID.

Check the card’s rigidity. A fake ID will often have different weight and/or thickness of a real ID. Gently squeeze the ID to determine if the card feels right.

Check the card’s edges. Almost all IDs have rounded edges around the entire ID. If the edges feel square it is possible the card has a false front.

  • Check and feel the front and back of the ID. Feel for bumps, ridges and irregularities.
  • Check the IDs corners. A real IDs corners cannot be split or peeled back. If you can peel back or split the IDs corners with your nail, it is likely a fake ID.

  • Visual inspection of the ID.
    • Do a general visual examination of the overall appearance, fonts and coloration patterns, and look for any known security features that should be present on valid IDs.
    • Don’t forget to examine the back of the ID. Creators of fake IDs take great care to replicate the front of the ID but put less effort into the back.
  • Know what Idaho’s licenses look like.
    • Become familiar with both the look and feel of Idaho’s adult and minor IDs, including all of the security features that are present on real IDs. Check out Idaho’s License Designs for more information.
  • Altered IDs
Modern IDs are much harder to alter than in the past. For example, given the advancement of ID printing methods and the use of specialized plastic material, altering an IDs photo is extremely difficult as is rarely seen on newer forms of ID. The current trend in ID altering is to change the date of birth, “Under 18 Until,” or “Under 21 Until” dates. The most common technique to alter IDs is to use clear fingernail polish or superglue and write or print new dates on top of the polish or glue. So to spot altered IDs look for the following:

    • Check for small raised spots or small shiny spots over the date of birth or “Under Until” dates.
    • Check for changes in font or coloration

How to spot a fake i. dWhether used as a “novelty” item, or for illegal purposes, false driver’s licenses and identification has been around forever. People who use a fake ID are rarely up to any good, and most people assume that a fake driver’s license in Michigan is being used to purchase alcohol illegally or to enter into an “over 21” bar or club. There are countless reasons why people will get a fake driver’s license in Michigan, and across the country, including identity theft, getting around a suspended driver’s license or even driving without a required ignition interlock device. So, how do you know when you’re looking at a fake driver’s license?

8 Reasons to Suspect a Driver’s License in Michigan is Fake:

    1. The edges of the driver’s license are peeling up, or there are visible edges around the photo.
    2. There is no magnetic strip on the back of the driver’s license.
    3. The font or typeface is consistent over the entire driver’s license.
    4. The expiration date on the license has passed.
    5. The person holding the license seems nervous or anxious.
    6. The blacklight enhancements are missing or altered.
    7. A signature in “real time” doesn’t match the signature on the license.
    8. The background image is altered or missing.

Fake driver’s licenses are still easy to purchase, and are used each day by criminals to get around the restrictions placed on them for former crimes. Anyone caught in possession of a fake driver’s license in Michigan can face criminal penalties including a jail sentence of up to one year and/or a fine of up to $2,000. Whether you think it’s an easy way to buy some beer, or to get around your ignition interlock requirement, chances are that your fake driver’s license will only land you in more trouble than its worth.

8 ways to spot a fake Texas ID

How can you tell if a Texas ID is fake?

You’re no McLovin. You’d never use a fake ID! These can get people in a lot of trouble, yet they’re everywhere. If you’re a server or bartender, then you must know how to spot a fake ID. Otherwise, you might get some jail time. We’ve identified eight ways to spot a fake ID in the state of Texas below.

    1. Raised surfaces

Run your fingers through the top of the ID. If you feel any raised surfaces over the text or photo, then this is a red flag that it’s a fake. The laminate on the real ID will be completely smooth and flat to the touch. Raised surfaces can mean that new text or graphics was placed on top of the original.

    2. Magnetic strips

On the back of the ID, there should be a magnetic strip. Of course, it’s easy to replicate the look of a black magnetic strip. But you can scan this through the register to see if any information on the front of the card does not match what you see on the screen when you scan it.

    3. Ultraviolet ink

Real IDs have ultraviolet ink that you can see by holding the license at an angle under a light. It’s shiny, and Texas IDs have the word “Texas” written in ultraviolet ink under the laminate.

    4. Microprint

This is what a lot of bouncers rely on to see if an ID is fake. Microprint is just what it sounds like – very small printed text. It’s typically scattered throughout the card. But in Texas, it can be found around the flag and state seal. Fake IDs typically show fine lines instead of printed text.

    5. Misspellings and grammar

Look carefully for spelling and grammar mistakes that can appear in the city, state or date-of-birth. Also be on the lookout for blurred text.

    6. Compare IDs

If you’re not sure whether or not someone has given you a fake ID, then you can compare it with an ID in the same state.

    7. Body language

Even the best of fake IDs can’t hide a person’s anxiety. Watch the customer’s face and body language as you examine their ID. A big way to tell if a person is nervous is the lack of eye contact… maybe even a little bit of rocking back and forth… and a shaking, jittery knee.

    8. Picture to person

A lot of underage people will use their older sibling’s IDs to purchase alcohol. They might’ve been told that they look so much like their siblings that they don’t even think twice when they’re using it. After all, the ID itself isn’t a fake one. So, you’ll have to really compare the picture to the person.
