The BNA here 24-7 to help you:

Each Service User and family are assigned an experienced care coordinator who can guide you through how our service works. It is a simple process, as follows:

1. First, we suggest a detailed telephonic consultation with one of our BNA care coordinators. We can provide you with full details, estimates of costs of our services and answer any questions you may have.

2. The next step is organising a Care Assessment to assess the needs of the individual and to determine exactly what the choices of the service user are, what the expected outcomes will be and how these will be managed.

3. Booking homecare services to the agreed requirements is easy: You will be provided with a pro-forma invoice on a weekly basis and we ask that all care and nursing provision is paid for in advance either by credit card or by direct bank transfer.

4. Monitoring your Care: We ensure that the service we deliver meets your needs by keeping in contact with the nominated parties, ensuring that the care provision is efficiently delivered, to your satisfaction. If your health needs change we will review the care service accordingly.

5. Service Supervision: We understand that this service is personal to you and we want to ensure at all times that the required outcomes are being met. We therefore carry out regular supervision checks on our care and nursing staff to ensure that they are adhering to the care plans and that no new issues have occurred – and that you feel confident, happy and supported by the programme. Your BNA coordinator will continue to liaise with you throughout the care provision.

What are the different types of home health care services?

The range of home health care services a patient can receive at home is limitless. Depending on the individual patient’s situation, care can range from nursing care to specialized medical services, such as laboratory workups. You and your doctor will determine your care plan and services you may need at home. At-home care services may include:

Doctor care

A doctor may visit a patient at home to diagnose and treat the illness(es). He or she may also periodically review the home health care needs.

Nursing care

The most common form of home health care is some type of nursing care depending on the person’s needs. In consultation with the doctor, a registered nurse will set up a plan of care. Nursing care may include wound dressing, ostomy care, intravenous therapy, administering medication, monitoring the general health of the patient, pain control, and other health support.

Physical, occupational, and/or speech therapy

Some patients may need help relearning how to perform daily duties or improve their speech after an illness or injury. A physical therapist can put together a plan of care to help a patient regain or strengthen use of muscles and joints. An occupational therapist can help a patient with physical, developmental, social, or emotional disabilities relearn how to perform such daily functions as eating, bathing, dressing, and more. A speech therapist can help a patient with impaired speech regain the ability to communicate clearly.

Medical social services

Medical social workers provide various services to the patient, including counseling and locating community resources to help the patient in his or her recovery. Some social workers are also the patient’s case manager–if the patient’s medical condition is very complex and requires coordination of many services.

Care from home health aides

Home health aides can help the patient with his or her basic personal needs such as getting out of bed, walking, bathing, and dressing. Some aides have received specialized training to assist with more specialized care under the supervision of a nurse.

Homemaker or basic assistance care

While a patient is being medically cared for in the home, a homemaker or person who helps with chores or tasks can maintain the household with meal preparation, laundry, grocery shopping, and other housekeeping items.

Johns Hopkins Home Care

We provide high quality, individualized care for patients of all ages where you feel most comfortable – your home or community. Our services and equipment are designed to help you regain and retain a level of independence.

Companionship

Some patients who are home alone may require a companion to provide comfort and supervision. Some companions may also perform household duties.

Volunteer care

Volunteers from community organizations can provide basic comfort to the patient through companionship, helping with personal care, providing transportation, emotional support, and/or helping with paperwork.

Nutritional support

Dietitians can come to a patient’s home to provide dietary assessments and guidance to support the treatment plan.

Laboratory and X-ray imaging

Certain laboratory tests, such as blood and urine tests, can be performed in the comfort of the patient’s home. In addition, portable X-ray machines allow lab technicians to perform this service at home.

Pharmaceutical services

Medicine and medical equipment can be delivered at home. If the patient needs it, training can be provided on how to take medicines or use of the equipment, including intravenous therapy.

Transportation

There are companies that provide transportation to patients who require transportation to and from a medical facility for treatment or physical exams.

Home-delivered meals

Often called Meals-on-Wheels, many communities offer this service to patients at home who are unable to cook for themselves. Depending on the person’s needs, hot meals can be delivered several times a week.

Johns Hopkins Advantage MD

This Medicare Advantage plan offers PPO and HMO products in 12 counties throughout Maryland, including Baltimore City. Backed by Johns Hopkins Medicine, Advantage MD connects you to high quality coverage with low costs on everyday health care needs.

We provide care to meet advanced needs for your loved ones at home to improve their health and happiness.

Traditional in-home care allows your loved one to get the help he or she needs without giving up independence. If your loved one is healthy, you might be able to meet his or her needs on your own or hire a caregiver to help provide the assistance they need.

However, there are times when care needs are more advanced, we can help through our uplifting private duty nursing care services. A private duty nurse from Comfort Keepers ® offers loved ones the level of care they need where they want it – not in a nursing facility or hospital, but in the comfort and safety of home.

What is Private Duty Nursing?

Unlike traditional in-home care services, private duty nurses provide one-on-one medical care. They are qualified to offer this care in the comfort of the patient’s own home, or in a facility such as a hospital or nursing home. They can offer advanced care, working in tandem with the family. Our goal is to provide the customized care needed by our clients, all from one source.

Next-Level Home Care for Your Family Member

We hire highly trained, qualified staff to provide specialized care. Our private duty nurses are either licensed practical nurses (LPNs) or Registered Nurses (RNs).

And, our nurses can work in conjunction with traditional in-home caregivers to provide the same uplifting care services that make Comfort Keepers a provider of choice. We believe that every client, no matter their age or acuity, can experience more connection, purpose and hope with quality care from a Comfort Keepers care team.

Private duty nurses are highly trained and certified to perform the following advanced medical tasks:

  • Oral medication set up
  • Non-injectable or injectable medication administration
  • Insulin syringe filling
  • Ostomy and catheter hygiene
  • Removal/replacement of aseptic dressings
  • Skin management, skin condition monitoring, and wound care
  • Oral cavity suctioning and tube feeding
  • Bowel care
  • Core training for family members
  • General health assessments and care coordination

Please discuss your needs with us as services vary by location and state.

How Comfort Keepers can help

Our private duty nurses are available whenever you need them. From scheduled nursing visits to hourly care, someone is there to help 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We work with your loved one’s medical team to offer the professional support he or she needs.

Comfort Keepers provides in-home care that makes a difference in the lives of seniors and other adults. For over twenty years, clients and their families have entrusted their care to us in hundreds of local communities. Whether personal care services or private duty nursing services, we provide the support and services that help to ensure the best care solutions for your loved one.

* Private Duty Nursing is not available in all locations, only those with LPNs or RNs on staff. Check your local Comfort Keepers website to see if they offer the service. You’ll find it listed under the “Care Services” tab. If your local office does not offer this specialized care, contact us. We’ll check if another nearby Comfort Keepers does.

Barbara Grossi, LPN

How to work with a home care nursing agency

I like working in home care for so many reasons. Most importantly, I like the connections I make with patients in their homes.

I learn about not only their illness, but their lives in general, like what they did or do for a living. I like looking at pictures on their walls with them and hearing them reminisce about their families. I love the stories they tell.

I love the profound advice they give because of the many experiences they have had.

I love that they are interested in my life. They want to know about my family and listen to my stories. I love when they want to give me a hug!

Karen Heath, Medical Social Worker

How to work with a home care nursing agency

I am grateful to help others on their healing journeys, whether the journey is mental or physical, ongoing or ending.

Patients invite me into their homes and their lives. I get to listen while they tell me what’s in their hearts and on their minds—what they need or want, what might make life a little better. On a good day, I have the answer. Sometimes I don’t.

Our patients help us realize how important the little things in life really are, like sleeping in your own bed, reading in your rocking chair or watching a grandchild play.

Many are concerned about not being able to cook, clean or take a shower on their own. Some are afraid of falling and need the security of a life-alert device or a walker they didn’t know they could get for free.

Sometimes there’s an overwhelmed caregiver who just needs a bit of time to vent their feelings, get reassurance they are doing the right thing, or learn where to find help and support.

Our clients have diverse ages, races, economic classes and genders. They have varied backgrounds, religions and life experiences. Some need help paying for their medications. Some need meal delivery, food stamps or transportation to appointments.

What they all have in common is a streak of independence that keeps them going. They want to stay home with their families or pets as long as they can.

They help us realize how important the little things in life really are, like sleeping in your own bed, reading in your rocking chair or watching a grandchild play. Many need an advocate to confirm their right to self-determination.

It is rewarding to help them achieve their goals by providing them with education or access to available resources, or to sit and listen to them as they express their hopes and concerns about what they are going through. Sometimes just changing one thing can make all the difference. Sometimes, my just being there is all they need.

Kaitlyn Larko, Occupational Therapist

How to work with a home care nursing agency

Occupational therapy (OT) focuses on addressing the difficulties that stand in the way of someone’s independence. For a lot of people, these difficulties impact their ability to function in their home, whether it’s taking a shower or preparing dinner.

Working in home care gives the patient and me the advantage of tackling these obstacles head on, right in their home environment. You don’t get that advantage in other health care settings.

The feeling I get from helping and witnessing a person reach his or her highest level of independence is indescribable.

Annmarie Vieira, Physical Therapist

How to work with a home care nursing agency

It makes me feel good to know I am making a difference in someone’s life, no matter how big or small.

I was drawn to home care because of its flexibility, benefits and autonomy. Many of my co-workers and bosses said I wouldn’t’ like it or I’d lose my skills. Well, it’s been six years, and I still love my job!

It makes me feel good to know I am making a difference in someone’s life, no matter how big or small. For some patients, we are all they have and trust. It gives me joy when I can teach someone something that makes them stronger, safer or more knowledgeable.

I love that in homecare, every day is different, every day is a new challenge. I love to hear my patients’ stories, meet their families, and be welcomed into their homes.

With every job there are pros and cons. Some days are tough and I come home sad, but I believe that makes me a better therapist and stronger person.

Emily Torres, RN

How to work with a home care nursing agency

This is definitely the most rewarding and satisfying nursing position I’ve had.

I truly love working in home care because it gives me the opportunity to get to know my patients and build relationships with them. I love educating them on their illnesses and ways to help prevent hospitalizations.

There are difficult days, but there are also opportunities for celebration when patients meet their goals and no longer need my care. I’m also glad I can support and comfort my patients and their families if they need to transition to hospice.

This is definitely the most rewarding and satisfying nursing position I’ve had.

How to work with a home care nursing agency

Long-term nursing home care is a range of services that support personal care needs. It includes health care administered in the comfort of your own home as well as help with daily living activities such as personal hygiene, dressing and eating. Just as in a nursing home in America, your loved one can receive these same services at home. It is important to note that Medicare doesn’t cover most long-term nursing care. Medicare was designed for those who need skilled nursing care for a limited time. For example, a person recovering from a hip injury will likely be covered while a person suffering from Alzheimer’s will likely not be covered. However, Medicaid may pay for some costs of nursing care whether it is in a facility or at home. The amount varies state-by-state. For veterans, there are also some options through the VA for those who meet the qualifications, including VA approved home care agencies for those who are homebound and do not live close to a VA nursing home.

Home Health Care Nurse Duties

The role of the nurse in at home long-term nursing care is medical. Home health care nurse duties include monitoring the health of your loved one, including chronic illness, and work with the doctor to provide treatment. They will also make sure that you understand the treatment plan, including medications. If you are also a family caregiver, they will help you understand how to do certain things, such as administering medications, treating wounds and learning about dietary needs, among other things. If you are unable to be a family caregiver, or unable to do it full-time, you can purchase a plan in which aides help with daily personal care needs, such as bathing, getting dressed, meal preparation, eating and companionship. Combined, these always home nursing services allow for your loved one to receive medical attention and personal daily care in the comfort of their own home.

What is Palliative Nursing Care?

There are some misconceptions about what is palliative nursing care. Many lump it in with hospice care, however, there is a key difference. Hospice care if for patients with 6 months or less to live. Palliative nursing care at home addresses symptoms, relieves pain and maximized the quality of life for people living with a serious illness, providing another layer of help for those who may be receiving curative treatments such as radiation and chemotherapy. The goal is to enhance the quality of life for the patient and their family while receiving curative treatment.

Who are you working for?

Ambition24hours was founded in 1996 by entrepreneur Penny Streeter OBE and her mother, Marion Hewson. Penny and Marion grew Ambition24hours into one of the largest nursing agencies in England, and the agency now operates not only in the UK but throughout South Africa as well. We believe it is essential that nurses are well paid and have access to flexible work patterns.

Do You Need Nurses Or Healthcare Staff?

We have over 20,000 nurses and healthcare assistants on our register and we actively recruit daily across the UK. If you need nursing or healthcare staff whether it be for an emergency shift or longer term, you can call us anytime of the day or night.

Alliance Homecare has always made it our mission to provide a wide variety of supportive, in-home nurse care while maintaining the highest standards in health care. Alliance Homecare provides nursing care for both medical and non-medical services to ensure that you or your loved one is able to remain at home in a comfortable, familiar, and caring environment. Our home care agency’s emphasis on compassion, respect, and education, training, and skilled care, help make our nurses and other caregivers some of the most knowledgeable medical support staff available.

Our core care services include providing private duty nursing and home health aides for seniors and the disabled. However, we provide a wide range of medical support services and assistance to those of all ages and in all living situations, including for those in treatment or recovery after an accident, injury, or chronic illness.

We provide skilled nursing care and home health care services across the entire age spectrum with a customized personal care plan. Although most home care service agencies typically provide senior care and older adult assistance, Alliance Homecare in NYC can go beyond to provide more extensive care. We support a wide variety of additional care options, which range from assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs) to more medically intensive home health care, such as recovery from plastic surgery, wound care, hospice care, and more. Our team services the New York metropolitan area specifically focusing on Manhattan home care, Brooklyn home care, Queens home care, Long Island home care, and home care in other areas of the city.

A Highly Competent Nursing Team

“Our priority was a highly competent nursing team; Alliance provided that and much more, including respect for our father’s dignity and quality of life; consistent communication with family members; effective coordination with doctors and other healthcare staff. The nurses adapted to challenges with ingenuity, coped with medical concerns in a calm and skillful manner, and interacted with both patient and family with poise and perhaps most important, a sense of humor.”

– The Family of Governor Hugh L. Carey

Great People You Can Trust

“Alliance Homecare changed my mother’s life and certainly made mine much easier. At the age of 98, Catherine was an incredibly vibrant, funny, intelligent and lively woman. Their staff provided much more than their jobs: they related to her with love, respect and joy, making each of her days secure and happier. She could share with them her jokes, her memories, and essential things with amusement. I live in France and finding the right solutions from such a distance is tough, I could not have dreamed a better partnership than the one we had with Greg Solometo and his team. Every single day Greg kept me informed on my mother’s health and accomplishments, we really were working together despite the distance. What he did is incredible, even bringing his adorable dog to visit my dog-loving mother! Great people you can trust, with high human values.”

First-Class, First-Rate Healthcare

“Alliance Homecare is a first-class, first-rate healthcare service organization. Professionals from Alliance have provided and continue to do so quality-oriented services for my 95-year-old father. I am one of his six children and speak for all of us in sharing kudos to the caregivers of Alliance who have been instrumental in creating a pathway for my dad to overcome and recover from a recent clinical challenge. He wants to return to his friends and colleagues in a concert band in which he plays both clarinet and saxiphone. My dad is a highly decorated World War II veteran and we his children want him around for as long as possible.”

The caregiver providers industry is becoming one of the fastest growing healthcare industries in the United States. Market expansion is fueled by the more than 76 million baby boomers, who represent nearly 25% of the U.S. Population. This is one of the reason why now is the time for you to start a private caregiver agency business.

Aging baby boomers are placing greater demands on the healthcare market to provide care in the home. As life expectancy increases, seniors who need long-term care are choosing to stay in their homes with in home senior care that you can provide as a caregiver agency franchise owner.

Here are more reasons to believe demand for private caregiver agency business in the U.S. will continue to grow:

  • 12 million people in the U.S. need home health care services today
  • Home health care revenue in the U.S. has grown to $93 billion
  • 90 percent of seniors plan to remain in their homes as they age
  • More than 10,000 baby boomers turn 65 every day
  • 61 million baby boomers will be aged 66 to 84 in 2030

By building your own private caregiver agency business now, you can lead the way toward meaningful delivery of services as older generations retire. You can meet their needs by bringing affordable, personalized, non medical services to your community with a caregiver agency.

What Services Do Private Caregiver Agency Provides?

Care is customized according to individualized care needs ranging from personal care such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, etc. The caregiver also provides companionship and light housekeeping allowing seniors to live independently at the comfort of their own homes as long as possible. Care is rendered from a few hours to twenty-four hours of care.

For home health aide services, caregiver agency provides bathing, dressing, toileting, assistance with transferring, cooking, meal preparation, grocery shopping, medication assistance, companionship to doctors’ appointments, hair appointments, theaters, social engagements, churches, etc. The caregiver provides light housekeeping, such as dusting, vacuuming, making the bed, take the trash out, pick up mails. They can play cards, board games, and help seniors cognitively engaged.

Differences Between Private Caregiver Agencies & Independent Caregivers

Caregiver Agencies are licensed, insured and bonded. Clients and families are rest assured that caregivers are vetted, criminal background checked, drug tested, and certifications verified. That’s a huge peace of mind knowing we have done the big part of screening the caregivers and family/client can focus on the care.

Families and seniors can also hire an independent caregivers privately if they wish to do so but such an approach can cause undue stress to the client and or family if they are acting as the agency and or employers themselves. The cost may be lower than the agency and for what seems to be a small cost-saving but can turn into a huge financial liability. Caregivers are part of the health care system and such professions are high on physical injuries. Caregivers without workers’ compensation coverage can turn to the client or family for recuperation when they are hurt on the job.

How Do I Start A Private Caregiver Agency Business?

If you believe yourself well suited to own and manage a caregiver business, then here are the important steps to follow:

Create a Business Entity

Set up the business entity that will best fit your needs. There are different types of businesses available, Sole Proprietorship, Partnership, Corporation, and limited-liability company (LLC). The type of business you choose to form determines how much you pay in taxes, what type of organizational structure your business will have, and the personal liabilities that you assume as the result of that structure.

Obtain Employer ID Number

The Employer Identification Number (EIN), also known as the Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN) or the Federal Tax Identification Number, is a unique nine-digit number assigned by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to business entities operating in the United States for the purposes of identification.

Register with Secretary of State

In order to search business entities, you must go to your the Secretary of State’s Website in your area. Once on the page, you have the option to lookup an entity (Corporation, LLC, Limited Partnership) by; Name, Officer, Registered Agent, Tax (EIN) Number, or Document Number. Decide on a business name and check availability in your state including consideration for domain name for website. When approved have letterhead, business cards, brochures printed.

Set Up your Financial Systems

On average, a new home care business will need $50,000 to $75,000 to get started. You can fund your business by obtaining a personal loan, applying a personal grant or fund yourself to get started. Make sure that you have set up your accounting system in place.

Set Up your Office

Find a location where care is affordable to population and without excessive competition. Save your money on costly high traffic commercial office space and instead find a cheaper accessible location for your employees. If your in-home caregiving business is non-medical, you will only need uniforms and a strong marketing budget. If you’re a medically licensed caregiving business, however, you will need to invest in relevant medical equipment.

Develop your Policies and Procedures

Write or purchase a policy and procedures manual to address new client admissions, plan of care, scheduling, employee and payroll records, orientation, in-service training, client billing.

Recruit and Hire your Staff

Find and hire the best caregivers available as the reputation of your business weighs heavily upon the quality of care delivered. Medical professionals commonly employed in home care include certified nursing assistants (CNAs) and home health aides (HHAs). Ensure that you bond all your employees.

Develop a Recruitment and Retention Plan for Caregivers

There are many methods to help retain caregivers, but the two most popular are recognition and training. To retain your caregivers, you need to understand them and then use that information to train new caregivers.

Market your Business

Marketing is an important part of promoting your business. Your marketing strategy should encompass not only traditional modes of advertising on radio, local TV, and the web, but take advantage of social media to attract attention to the work you’re doing. Use updates on Facebook and similar sites to talk about how your business is growing and contributing to the community.

Setting Up a Franchised Business

Franchise ownership will give you the flexibility and freedom to build a business you will be proud to call your own. If you believe yourself well suited to own and manage a private caregiver agency business, contact a Home Care Agency Franchising sectors near you.
